Video Transcript for Bulldog Front Winch Wiring Kit Installation - 2012 Ford F-250

Today on our 2012 Ford F250, were going to review and install the Bulldog Front Winch Wiring Kit part number BDW20025. Heres what our winch wiring will look like once installed. Now our winch cable is fully assembled to connect directly from your winch or accessory all the way up to the vehicles battery. Its 7-1/2 foot long cables that are made of a three-gauge wire so theyre nice and sturdy which can handle even heavy loads. With this kit will come a connector and terminal ends for connecting to your winch or accessory so itll plug directly into our connector. The other end of our cable has nice heavy duty ring terminals that will connect directly to the battery post. Now lets go ahead and show you how to install it.

Here we have the Bulldog fully assembled winch wiring cable, two pre-assembled ring terminals for connecting to power and ground and our winch connection point. For this application, were going to mount our connector point here inside of the front bumper. To get it there, well need to route the wiring up behind the front grill into the top of the engine compartment. Were going to start by routing our wires first. Now to help route my wiring up through the front and ultimately to the battery, were going to use a pull wire. The pull wire can be a stiff piece of wire, in this case a piece of air tubing.

Were going to route the pull wire first. Now with my pull wire in place, well go ahead and take the two cables and attach it to the pull wire just using some black electric tape. Now to assist in mounting our winch connector, were going to use the tow ready mounting bracket part number 18140. This is the short bracket and it can attach directly to the steel here inside the bumper. Now because the steel is pretty thick on both our bracket and on the vehicle side, weve gone ahead and pre-drilled our holes in the bracket. Using some self-tapping screws, well now secure it to the bumper. Now once Ive got my bracket mounted, Im going to go ahead and take a zip tie, run it into place and then bring in our connector.

Well use the zip tie to help secure it in position until we can get our self-tapping fastener in place. Now Im using a self-tapping screw, go through the attachment point on our connector and then into our bracket. Next, Im going to go ahead and cut off the zip tie because we dont need it to hold our connector in place any longer. All right, now were finished down at the bumper, weve got our wire routed up here to the top of the engine compartment, we just routed it behind the headlight, well go around the air box and over to our battery. Keep in mind when routing your wiring and securing it, stay away from any moving components such as steering and suspension or excessive heat such as exhaust. Over here at the batter, well go ahead and remove the positive battery cover and here we have a post that we can attach to by removing the manufacturers post nut and installing the ring terminal. Special note, we are connecting these cables for a winch that has an overload protection built in to it.

For applications where the winch does not have a built-in overload protection, well need to install a breaker in line with your positive battery cable. All right, once I have that secured and put the post cap back on, well move over to the negative battery cable and basically repeating the same process, we have a post here on the negative battery side. Now with both ring terminals secured, well use the zip ties provided with our install kit to finish securing our wiring. Now to keep our install look nice and clean, well cut off the excess from the zip ties and getting them out of the way. That will do it for the review and install of the Bulldog Front Winch Wiring Kit part number BDW20025 on our 2012 Ford F250. .

Ask the Experts about this Bulldog Winch Accessories and Parts

  • How to Charge Truck Bed Camper Battery from Vehicle
You are on the right track to answering your question of "why isn't the battery," being charged as the reason is that the charge circuit of your vehicle just can't carry enough amperage/voltage to keep the battery charged. The reason this is the case for your new setup is most likely because your new camper has a larger battery and/or has appliances that just draw more which uses more of the battery and the current circuit just can't keep up. So the wiring of the 12 volt charge circuit...

  • Wiring to Use an Electric Winch at the Front and Back of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500
Glad to hear that you will be using the Draw-Tite # 65078 to mount the (discontinued) Superwinch Tiger Shark Off-Road Winch SW1595200 to the front of your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. To easily swap the Tiger Shark winch from the front of your Silverado to the back I recommend using the Bulldog Winch Front Wiring Kit # BDW20025 and the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207. The front kit has 8' of wire while the rear kit has 24' of wire which should be more than enough for your...

  • Does the Winch Remote Control Module Need to Be Mounted on Top of the Motor or Can Extension Work?
The Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch - Wire Rope - Roller Fairlead - 4,400 lbs # BDW15019 will allow you to use a thick enough gauge wire like you would find with battery cables to move the inch remote 4 feet away from the winch and still utilize the 20 foot lead and rocker switch on the remote control. If you want to use a wireless remote part # BDW20212 is available separately and would remove the need to change the transmitter control position. You can use the Bulldog Winch Front Wiring...
