Video Transcript for Blue Ox Tow Bar Wiring BX8861 Review

Today, we're going to be reviewing part number BX8861. This is the Blue Ox 4-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way Round Plugs. This is going to allow you to quickly and easily connect your towed vehicle to your RV using the durable insulated electrical cable. The 4-wire extension cord can be used for multiple towing applications. It's going to be ideal for running power from your RV to your towed vehicle. It's also going to include two 4-way round sockets that mount to the RV and one mounts to the towed vehicle for quick, easy hook up. All you have to do is connect your wires to the back of the socket and mount one of this to your RV and the other one to your towed vehicle.

The mount holes on this unit are going to be separated by 1 7/8, 7 inch, center around center, and they're going to measure a 1/4 inch by 3 16/17 inch. It's going to feature a spring-loaded lid. That way it's going to remain closed, we're not connected. That's designed to help keep out dirt and moisture and protect your connection points. It's also going to feature a finger grip at the bottom of the lid to easily open up the lid. The coil cable can expand to 7 feet, yet still contracts to prevent dragging and tangling, also making it really easy for a nice convenient storage. It's going to feature silicon and cased wire connections that are going to prevent corrosion.

This unit is going to be constructed at 16-gauge wire, and then the ground wire is going to be 12-gauge. Here on the connectors, they got easy to grip, or easy grip finger tabs as well, that way you can disconnect them really easily from the socket connector. That's going to do it for our review of part number BX8861. This is the Blue Ox 4-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord. .

We originally bought this product over two years ago from etrailer and we were happy with its performance. We did some annual maintenance on the tow bar so we decided to buy a new coil. We bought the second coil via [online retailer] (same manufacturer) and within a few days of using it we noticed it did not perform the same as our original purchase. We sent it back and reordered it from etrailer and we are again very happy with it.

Great product works great just what I needed for my toad

Still working and looks great after thousands of miles of use.

by:

I put this base plate on with the assistance of my wife very easy to install. Do recommend the video to install

by:

This is a great kit to add rear lights to a Ford Focus because you have to remove the negative battery cable for towing. There is more then enough wire to complete the job of wiring the lights from the rear of the car to the front for a permanent installation.

by:

Replacement electrical cord to replace our existing wiring between car and motorhome that has seen all kinds of extreme weather during the last 10+ years. The outer jacket started to crack, but still works. Makes connection to our Brake Master towing system quick and easy.

by:

Not what i thought. Ends on the blue ox are a lot smaller than the ones on my truck and rv. So they will not fit without changing both plug ends on the truck and rv. That is what i was trying to avoid. Sorry I will have to return.

by:

As always etrailer delivered exactly what I wanted. Thanks

by:

  • Towing a 2007 Toyota Solara with a Chevy 3500 Pickup
There a few ways to do this. If your 2007 Toyota Solara has a manual transmission you can use a tow bar ans base plates to tow your vehicle. If your vehicle has the U151E transmission you would need a transmission lube pump to flat tow the vehicle or you could rent a tow dolly, which would hold the front wheels off the ground. You could also rent a 16 foot car hauler trailer. If your vehicle has the U250E transmission you will have to use a tow dolly or trailer to transport the Solara. If...

  • Will the Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Lighting Kit Work for Flat Towing a 2005 Chevy Colorado
Yes, the Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Tail Light Wiring Kit, # BX8869, is confirmed to fit in the taillight housing on your 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. Along with the bulb and socket kit you will need an electrical cord and connectors to go from the towed vehicle to the motorhome. Blue Ox recommends the 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way connectors, # BX8861 if your motorhome needs a 4-Way round connector, and the 6-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord with 6-Way round connectors, # BX8862 if your...

The best place to check to see if a vehicle can be flat towed behind a motor home is the owners manual. I found one online for the 2013 Fit from Honda and it states that you can tow the vehicle behind a motor home. There are special instructions for the automatic transmission you will want to look at so be sure to check your owners manual. You will need 5 items to flat tow your fit. First you will need base plates, # BX2253. These provide a safe mounting location for a tow bar. For a compatible...

Our installers do tend to prefer the Blue Ox flat towing items for their consistently clean installation. We can start with the base plates needed for the Wrangler. Blue...

  • Blue Ox Tow Bar Base Plates and Wiring for 2011 Honda Element
If your Element is not an SC model, you would use the BX2232 base plate kit. Neither Blue Ox nor Roadmaster offer a base plate kit for the 2011 Honda Element SC. The Blue Ox Alpha, part # BX7380 would be a great choice for you. The Alpha includes safety cables, is self aligning and will easily fold up against the rear of the motor home when not in use. To wire your vehicle so its tail lights work in tandem with the RV, you would need a Coiled Electrical Cord and Plugs, part # BX8861 and...

  • Parts Needed When Flat Towing A 2014 Ford Focus Behind RV
In order to flat tow your 2014 Ford Focus, you will need several items. Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to the appropriate height. The safe zone for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3 inches above or below level. RoadMaster high-low adapters will provide you with the necessary drop. Simply flip the adapter over to achieve the desired level. I have linked you to a product page for high-low adapters. One of the first things...
