Video Transcript for Review of Atwood RV Water Heater Replacement Regulator - RV Water Heaters - 91602

Randy: Hey, guys. Randy here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at a replacement gas regulator for the Atwood gas RV water heaters. Now this is going to work with gas only models, as well as the gas and electric models, both of the 10 and 6 gallon configurations. Basically oftentimes we have regulator failures and that's going to prevent your pilot light from staying on or prevent your water heater from firing when we need it. This is going to be something that's going to get you right back up to where you were.

This is an exact factory replacement it comes from them there at Atwood. We're going to have our gas in here on the side, out here on the bottom, this is going to go to our burner. Then we also have the connection point down on the bottom side there for our thermal couple. You can see on the top here we've got our off, our pilot and our on, our igniter here, and then our temperature control. This allows us to either cool off the water temp in our hot water heater a little bit or warm that up.Working with customers with this, they're all very pleased with it. It works instantly as soon as you get it put in, you're going to be right back getting that hot water that you need to enjoy your trip, which I think is important.

Nobody wants to be uncomfortable. To help with the installation. Depending on your water heater configuration, they're going to send you a 45 degree elbow or a 90 degree elbow. You may just run the gas line straight into the side. Both of these are the in and out are both standard three eighths inch. You want to be sure that you do use thread sealant or pipe dope, it's sometimes called, on here.So we don't have any gas leaks.

That's the biggest concern you're going to have with installing this, is ensuring that you don't have any gas leaks. Here on the top, you see we have the off position, so in transport, just shut it off. Once you get to your destination, you're going to turn that into the pilot mode. Press down on our igniter and our pilot button here, and just like a manual ignition water heater at home, you're going to need to hold this down until that thermal couple warms up enough. That's a safety feature.

The thermal couple ensures that the regulator just doesn't continue to send gas if the fire has gone out. Once you've held that down, generally about 30 seconds is what you want to hold it. You're going to lift that up. You want to ensure at that point that the gas has stayed on it, that your flame has stayed lit. Then you'll turn it into the on position. At that point, the thermostat here on the front is going to control it when it turns on and when it turns off, so it's going to monitor the water temperature. Once it gets down below what you've set, it's going to kick on just like our temperature furnace at home. Once it gets up to the normal temperature, the operating, then of course it's going to turn that back off and just maintain. So it works for a lot of the different Atwood water heaters. Just to give you an idea, it's going to work for five of the gas only water heaters. That's going to be AT94180191, AT96110, AT96121, AT96136. It's also going to work for the Atwood gas and electric water heaters. They're going to be six of those part numbers, AT94022, AT94023, AT94186, AT96117, AT96161SU, and AT96163. So if you look into that cover panel, just behind that you should see your model number and if there's any of those that I mentioned, this is going to be a direct bolt together application. Just a couple simple wrenches is all you're really going to need for this. And again, be sure you have a proper gas certified sealant for that for any of your threads. Because again, we don't want any leaks. That's the biggest concern. Just making sure you have everything nice and sealed up. But outside of that, this is going to get your water heater working again. This is going to give you that comfort that you're used to. So you don't have to deal with cold showers.

I have hot water again! I did need to replace the regulator. The gas inlet did not line up in the same place. New one was in the middle area on the side. The old was on the lower section. But I made it work. Love the product and the service. Thank you 775584

Replaced the original obsolete gas valve that would not shut off the pilot light flame. Christina was able to cross-reference old part to the new one no problem. It works great. My only issue was that I had to reposition the gas line a little, not a big deal. 691016
