Video Transcript for 3M Wiring 44-5310A Review

Today, we're going to review part number 44-5310A. This is the 3M ring terminal for 12 to 10 gauge sized wire with a ring inside diameter of 3/16ths of an inch. These ring terminals are used for all types of electrical work where wires need fastening. This one is for use with a 10 or 12 gauge sized wire. It does have the vinyl insulation sleeve, which is yellow, and then the ring terminal, the inside diameter is 3/16ths so it is designed to fit on a stud size of 3/16ths of an inch. Basically, want to show you here, I got an example right here of a 12 gauge sized wire. What you would basically do is just side this into ...

You don't really want to have it sticking out. You could, but what I like to do is put it right there. Then, you're going to crimp, have a set of . This is a wire stripper with, down here is the crimping portion. If you just stick that in the very .. Put it right over there and then all you have to do is push down just like that.

Once you push down and hard enough, you can see that it crimps that wire to this ring terminal. You can see that you have a good connection. That's the reason I don't like to have the wire stick out too much because you don't want any of that exposed so if you just keep it under that insulation sleeve, you should be in good shape. That should do it for the review on part number 44-5310A. This is the 3M ring terminal for 12 to 10 gauge sized wire with the 3/16ths inch ring inside diameter. .

  • How to Rewire an Old Cattle Trailer
  • It sounds like you are on the right track to rewire your cattle trailer. You are correct about the wire colors on the 7-way connector that you purchased. The colors that you see on the 7-way connector are typical for RV style trailers rather than utility, cargo, or livestock style trailers. The black wire should be connected to the terminal in the 7-way connector labeled black. This is the terminal in the 11 oclock position when you are looking at the back of the trailer connector (see...

  • How to Power Interior Lights of an Enclosed Trailer
  • The best way for you to power the interior lights of your enclosed trailer is with a mounted 12V battery. To do this, mount the battery with a battery box like # TLA7708R and use a junction box # 38656 to tap into your 7-way. You will also need ring terminals # 44-5310A, and wire # 12-1-1 to run to each light. You will also want a light switch such as the Pollak rocker switch # PK34308 or toggle switch # PK34571. You will be able to charge the battery when the 7-way is attached to your...

  • Adding a Battery on an Enclosed Trailer to Power Interior Lights
  • The best way to power the interior lights in your trailer is with its own independent battery. You will not want to use the breakaway battery. The breakaway battery is only designed to operate the breakaway and will drain extremely quickly, they're only required by law to operate your brakes for 15 minutes. There's a few ways you can install a battery onto the trailer. One is to connect it to the 12 volt pin on the trailer's 7-way in place of the breakaway battery that is currently...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring for 7-Way with Only 5 Wires
  • I've attached a diagram for you with function locations. Your left turn and stop are what will need to be connected for the flashers to work. These are found on the left and right side blades of your 7-way connectors. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check your wiring functions on your lights. It sounds like you have a running/parking light, turn signal/stop, and ground but the colors are not typical. My recommendation because your wiring colors are not standard...

  • Adapter and Re-Wiring Kit for Lance Truck Camper with Round Pin 7-Way Plug
  • A junction box/7-way plug kit like Epicord # 277-000141 or # ET7WK lets you convert the camper to match the 7-way RV blade type connector format. This avoids the extra connection points and potential trouble spots from using separate adapters. These items use different wire colors so be sure to follow the wiring guide for the specific kit you select. The existing wires on the camper will need ring terminals like # 44-5310A (for 12 and 10 gauge wires) and # DW05702-1 (for 16 and 14 gauge...

  • Is there a Backup-Alert Reverse Light for Bulb Type 921 for the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox
  • Your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox uses a type 921 backup light bulb. The Hopkins product you reviewed, part # HM20101VA, is a replacement for the type 3156 bulb. My contact at Hopkins advises that they do not offer an audible alarm replacement bulb for the 921 type. I also checked with two other suppliers of aftermarket lighting products, Putco and Optronics, and neither of these suppliers offers a 921 replacement bulb with alarm. However, we do offer the Custer Surface Mount Back-up Alarm,...

  • Recommendations For Re-Wiring Horse Trailer With Brakes
  • Since you said you have a 7-way blade connector on your Silverado I would start with the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, part # H20046. This is an 8 ft long harness with the 7-way trailer connector. If you need a shorter harness you can check out part # H20044 which is a 6 ft long harness with the connector. You will want a circuit tester like part # 40376 to make sure you match the wiring on the trailer side connector to the functions on the vehicle connector. I then recommend...

  • Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector, Junction Box, and LED Lights to a Trailer
  • I think adding a 7-Way and a junction box and not to mention LED lights are great ideas! If you are going to replace all of those items, you may as well go the all out and replace all of the trailer wiring as well. Starting with a trailer side 7-Way connector you can use # H20042 which is 3 feet long. It doesn't have to be long though because it is going to the junction box. Speaking of junction boxes you can use # 38656. I have included a picture showing how it can be wired up and...

  • 7-Way Trailer Wiring Setup Recommendation for a Tandem Axle Trailer
  • A 4-way trailer wiring harness wouldn't carry a brake signal so it wouldn't matter how many axles you would have on a trailer that has a 4-way. A better option would be a 7-way as that style of harness does carry the brake signal. Starting with a trailer side 7-Way connector you can use # H20042 which is 3 feet long. It doesn't have to be long though because it is going to the junction box. Speaking of junction boxes you can use # 38656. I have included a picture showing how it...

  • Adding an Auxiliary Power Circuit to a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • First, use a circuit tester like # ALL640595 if needed, to test the 7-Way trailer connector. The 12 volt circuit will be in the 1 oclock position. If the trailer side connector pin that corresponds with the 12 volt circuit is connected to the battery on the trailer, then you will not have to change or add anything. If it is not, you can either connect the battery to that circuit or use the auxiliary pin in the center. Again, use the circuit tester to test the center pin. It may be connected...

  • Wire Recommendation for Rewiring Utility Trailer with Brakes
  • For the brake circuit of your trailer you will want to run 10 gauge wire like our part # 10-1-1 which is sold by the foot and is standard copper primary wire. We use it all the time here on trailers and it works great. For bonded 14 gauge wire that has 4 wires bundled you would want the part # DW04923-1 which is also sold by the foot. A lot of times people use junction boxes like the part # 38656 to organize the wires on the trailer. Check out the install video I attached for more...

  • Wiring a Side Marker Light to the Running Light Wire on a Trailer
  • You can run a jumper wire to T-off from the main running light wire to the side marker light using something like a quick splice connector, # 562. Or you can use a butt connector, # 05732-2. In one end, place the wire from the trailer connector and in the other end insert the wire from the side marker light and the wire to the tail light. You would need to cut the brown wire at some point to wire it in this manner. And yet another option is to run the side marker wire all the way...

  • Troubleshooting Grounding Issue on Aluminum Trailer

Grounding problems can cause all sorts weird effects and aluminum trailers are notorious for issues with grounding and can sometimes require ground jumper wires. Often the easiest way to do this is to install a simple junction box like # 38656 where each individual light's ground can be joined and then connected to the main ground that goes to the trailer connector. • We do not supply a 9-pole to a 7-blade connector converter, but you can definitely convert your existing trailer connector to a 7-way blade connecter that will work with your truck. To do this you will need a replacement 7-blade connector like # PK12706. You will then disassemble the existing trailer connector and install the 7-way blade style connector. • Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Lights and Turn Signals That Are Not Working Correctly
  • The two most common causes for problems with trailer lighting functions are corroded vehicle or trailer connectors and a bad ground on the trailer or vehicle. The good news is that these two problems are fairly simple to check and correct. First, check that the main trailer connector ground wires on both the vehicle socket and the trailer plug are solidly connected to a clean bare metal surface that is free of grease, rust and paint. A weak ground can cause all sort of odd behavior from...

You will need to do some modifying of the trailer wiring to get this all to work. First, you will need to cut the trailer connector off and use a 4-way connector like part # HM48110. • Current Capacity of Hopkins 12-Volt Power Socket with Power Wire and Fuse Assembly HM55115
  • The Hopkins 12-Volt Power Socket # HM55115 uses a wire gauge that can safely support up to 20-amps and that is the value of fuse supplied with this kit. I can't recommend using a 30-amp fuse in this item. What I can suggest is making your own 30-amp capable outlet by using a 30-amp auto reset circuit breaker # PK54530, 12V power outlet part # DG6112VP and 10-gauge duplex wire # 10-2-1. We can also offer you an easier alternative. To re-wire the trailer conector you'll need a wiring junction box # 38656, a trailer-side plug like the 4-foot # H20043 (or longer versions such as 6-foot # H20044 or 8-foot # H20046) and ring terminals like...
