    • Custom connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
    • Other end plugs into the back of your electric brake controller
  • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from Curt

  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter

To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. For most applications, this harness is located beneath the dash, near the center console.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

Video Transcript for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2004 Ford F-250

Today on our 2004 Ford F250, we'll be installing the Curt Venture trailer brake controller for 1 to 3 axles and the time delay, part #C51110. We'll also be using the Curt custom wiring adapter for trailer brake controllers with the dual plug in, part #C%1322. Now we'll go ahead and go through a few of the functions of the Curt Venture trailer brake controller has. There is a manual override which is a slide on the front of the brake controller and a knob on the back left side is your sync adjustment which allows you to adjust how aggresively the brakes come on when activated. As you can see here when you slide the manual override and you adjust the sync setting it goes from 1 to 8 bars. Now we'll go ahead and begin our install. To begin with, we need to go ahead and remove this panel right here underneath the steering wheel. To remove the panel here, we'll turn the four mounting locations about 90 degrees and they will pop out.

We can then remove the panel. Let's go ahead and we'll mount the bracket that will hold our brake controller in place. We'll go ahead and use the 2 screws that come with the kit and mount them to the lower dash. You can choose to raise it either higher or lower on the dash or even mount it in a different location if you so choose. There is plenty of extra length on the wire adapter plug. We'll go ahead and mount our brake controller.

Before we do this though, we're going to go ahead and put a little electrical tape just to kind of dress up the wire some as it goes up underneath the dash. To install the brake controller to the bracket, we use the 2 machine style screws and thread them through the bracket and into the brake controller. We use the 1/4 inch socket wrench. Now that we have our brake controller mounted, we'll go ahead and plug in the connection from the back of the brake controller into the wiring adapter plug. With that done, we'll go ahead and pull the wiring up underneath the dash and route it up to where our factory plug is. Now for the plug that we're looking for, sometimes it's on the other side of the bracket here, but on this particular vehicle somebody's already pulled the plug out. We'll then go ahead and plug our brown plug into the factory gray plug.

Since the wires are a little long in here, we're going to use a couple zip ties to help secure it up. Once that's done, we'll go ahead and trim off the excess and we can put the panel back in place that we removed earlier. With that, that will conclude our installation of the Curt Venture trailer brake controller for 1 to 3 axles and the time delay, part #C51110 on our 2004 F250. .

Excellent. Perfect fit, exactly what was needed. Connected the Curt C51110 Brake control to factory wiring. Only thing that could make it better is if it came with someone to plug it in for me and save me 10 seconds. 92203

The products worked great up until about a few weeks ago Thats when I sold the truck where the items were installed. lol. Really though, I very much liked how the products listed and purchased from etrailer.com were easy to find, fit exactly as described, and performed as needed. etrailer.com is always one of the first places I look when searching for items for my new truck.

  • Recommended Brake Controller for a 2018 Thor Ace Motorhome
  • For your 2018 Thor Ace Motorhome, I recommend using the Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller part # C51170. The reason for this is because this unit is composed of two main parts, the control box and the output knob. The control box gets mounted out of site and then the output knob will get installed up on your dash for easy use and a very aesthetically pleasing look. The color output of the knob also helps with ease of use. Since your motorhome is on a Ford F-53 chassis, you can use...

Should you have that adapter the OEM plug on your F-150 should be on the underside of the dash like the one circled in the accompanying photo.
