If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.
This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.
Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the king pin, which connects to the fifth-wheel hitch in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the king pin will move accordingly.
Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the king pin moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the pin's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.
The vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch in the truck bed. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.
This Gen-Y pin box has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The highest arrow on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (3,500 lbs). The lowest arrow indicates no vertical load (0 lbs). A vertical load of at least 1,500 lbs is recommended for the built-in shock absorption to function effectively. This means that the scale's white indicator marker should be between the highest arrow and the middle arrow when you hook up your trailer to tow.

Installed myself in about 30 minutes.
The Gen-Y gooseneck has been excellent! I now have approximately 12k miles on mine and it rides very nicely with very limited chucking and handles rough roads very well. I’d highly recommend that you contact Gen-Y BEFORE ordering to ensure you get the correct load rating product. Gen-Y and Etrailer have provided excellent customer and tech support! This product definitely frees up your truck bed and does require a precise line up to hitch.
The box for the hitch was absolutely destroyed, the hitch has damage to the powder coat on most sides. Almost no packaging in the box, not sure how you guys pack these but this $[XX] hitch is beat up pretty bad. Really disappointed and i don't have time to had it repowder coated as i am picking up the new camper tomorrow with this hitch and now this one is going to rust.
Shipping on this item was quick and packaged extremely well. The GenY hitch exceeded our expectations. We just completed a 600 mile trip. In the first 100 miles we noticed some stiffness, but after that it loosened up and on the return home we definitely noticed a difference. The hitch is very easy to hook up and as long as you are within a few inches the hitch will center itself and slide onto the ball. We towed with an F350 6 3/4 foot bed and I do not see any need for the 4 inch extension ball setup. A subcompact tractor makes 1 person install of the hitch a complete breeze. The angle is perfect. I ordered the GenY chains and mounting bolts and all worked very well.
This hitch reduced chucking very well, I have a 2004 3500 Dodge Ram 4x4 Conestoga riding truck with very stiff suspension, the torsion action of the hitch definitely helps when crossing bridges and pot holes. The 5th wheel is an older Keystone Copper Canyon that is in great shape. I Have 12K miles with the new hitch.
Great product. The fit and finish is perfect. The trailer tows so much smoother and the chucking is almost gone. The extra bed space is a great bonus.
Invoices were confusing. They said I was getting two Gen Y hitches? Then when it actually came down to tracking it appeared I was getting the wrong one. Afte a few emails and phone calls, Will did get that cleared up. Then they shipped my chains to someone else and I got their package, an awning support bracket of some sort. Again a few emails and phone calls Will did get this cleared up as well and shipped the chains to me, but I had to make a trip to the UPS shipper to get the awning support back to them. Real roller coaster...
I have towed now for a few thousand miles since changing to this pin box and honestly wish I had done this years ago! It tows so much better than my 5th wheel box did! Feels more stable, no more bucking and so much softer and better feel when towing! Not to mention so much less hassle dealing with a 5th wheel hitch!
Makes life a lot easier l don’t have to remove my hitch from the bed of my truck to use it. Just flip the ball and there you go.
The gooseneck hitch actually pulls better than the 5th wheel hitch I had.
It is rather heavy so come up with a good plan for installing, I used the front end loader on my tractor which allowed me to do the install by myself.
Great product!!!
Thank you for helping me choose the hitch I needed. My thought was to use an air bag system, but we found it was not available for my trailer. We then looked to the Gen-Y and fell it will do the job, and at less cost!
After one year our Gen Y hitch works as it should. The shipping process was a problem and I blame that on the rail and freight companies. I highly recommend
I would recommend the Gen Y hitch to my friends. It absorbs a lot of the shock that is transferred from the trailer to the truck.
This product is a chucking ENHANCER, not a chucking dampener. Additionally, despite what you have read, my experience with GenY customer service has been terrible. GenY will not support their warranty program, they will try to tell you everything is OK, when the fact is, their product is faulty and does not function to GenY product literature statements “Built-In Suspension Creates Up to 90% Smoother Ride”.
I purchased the GenY executive hitch from eTrailer on 3/10/23, etrailer sent the wrong unit and to etrailer’s credit - they quickly took responsibility and replaced with the correct unit on 3/24/23. I installed on my DRV Elite Suites PS3 just in time to attend the SOITC rally at the Outer Banks on 4/13/23. When we left for this 750-mile one-way trip, the GenY load indicator was in the middle of the green zone, I measured the pin load at 5,200 pounds. Bedrail clearance was my reason for buying the GenY, it replaced a Trail Air on my DRV and a Reese 27,000-pound hitch on my 2022 F450. Bottom line, the GenY system provided no improvement in bedrail clearance, but did offer the ability to switch in different gooseneck balls to adjust for bedrail clearance.
GenY states that a 1,000-mile break in period is required before the GenY torsion system is fully effective. My experience was that at 750 miles the torsion system on the GenY had sagged to it lowest point with the load indicator in the unit outside of the green, this also resulted in losing nearly two inches of bedrail clearance. It looks like it has a metal-to-metal stop so that the lowest the indicator will go is to the white lines outside of the green. I called GenY from the RV park and was told that the unit would not sag further. I purchased a Curt gooseneck ball which was 2 inches higher than the Ford ball to regain bedrail clearance having to rapid ship it to the RV park.
Chucking became downright scary on the 750-trip home. As an example, chucking was induced every time my truck’s ten-speed transmission shifted up. Upon arrival home, I again contacted GenY customer service with a full expectation that GenY would replace the unit. Instead, here is their response: “I spoke with our QC Manager regarding your hitch. He said that you are in the correct unit and being at the top end of the green is normal after the break-in miles. As for the bedrail clearance he said that you would be able to lower the pin box down a set of bolts (with our pin boxes you are only required a minimum of 4 grade eight bolts per side) or use a B&W ball as they are roughly 1 1/2” taller.” This is unacceptable...
Does a fantastic job. After 4 or 500 miles the ride quality smoothed out considerably. Extremely well built!!
I have been well pleased and excepcetionally satisfied with the Gen-Y pin box. We just returned from Texas making a 3000 mile roundtrip and encountered multiple rough roads. There was none of the chucking that I experienced towing with the turning point 5th wheel. A gooseneck is much superior to a 5th wheel in my opinion
So far this hitch has been wonderful. We were fortunate enough that one of the hitch reviews on YouTube was on a DRV fifth wheel similar to ours and so we ended up going with the exact same hitch. The sample mathematical equation used to figure out what size hitch one would need, just didn’t work for us. It was trying to get us into a heavier duty hitch than what was needed. My advise? Gain knowledge of your actual pin weight and then buy accordingly. It’s a five star product!
I’m really happy with my purchase. Please take into account that this hitch is 2-3” shorter than the kingpin box. They do make an extended version. I had to buy a 4” ball offset, as I couldn’t open my tailgate Without hitting the camper. I love having the open bed space, it seems to be smoother and it’s less noisy then the pin box.
Easy install with a couple people, after install from a fifth wheel hitch it’s noticeable less noisy, less moving parts, frees up bed space and has a much smoother ride. I recommend this hitch 100% for fifth wheel campers.
I love this hitch I put it on my 35’ Astoria fifth wheel it pulls great and the shock absorbers help with a smooth ride.we took a ten day trip from Ga to Maine last September and had no problems with this hitch. I guess the only negative is that it’s not as easy as a regular fifth wheel hitch to hook up by yourself but after a few times you can line it up ok. The best thing is that no big hitch taking up space in my truck bed just a ball
Without a doubt the biggest difference maker I have ever used in my 50 plus years pulling trailers. When my wife had to concede that the Gen-Y gooseneck hitch made such a drastic difference.... enough said!
Items looks great and all of the staff are helpful and every knowledgeable of the items
Great replacement for the Curt Turning Point pin box! Easy to install and took a couple hours since I did it by myself. I had to purchase new 5/8” locknuts as the originals from the Curt install needed replacing. I also had to buy (4) 5/8” nuts from Tractor Supply since the Curt install had nuts welded on the front 4 bolt locations. I used the Curt 5/8” bolts and flat washers since they did not need replacing. I haven’t had a chance to get the trailer on the road yet, but see no reason why it will not pull nicely with the Gen Y gooseneck. It will be pulled with a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 6.6 Duramax and 10 speed Allison transmission.
Quality build, easy install, let your truck and trailer do the heavy lifting. My wife and I did this install and took about an hour to get it bolted. I also bought the Grade 8 bolt kit. I’m hauling 20K GTW. The original hitch had Grade 5 bolts and only 5 per side. Now I have 6 per side, 160ft.lb. on bolt torque
Best upgrade I have done on my RV. Hitching up a gooseneck is a little more difficult but well worth it. It allowed me to remove the large heavy 5th wheel hitch out of the bed of the truck. I love the damping of the trailer bouncing. This hitch allows my RV move with the truck and I don’t feel that bounce of the truck is passed to the RV hitch like it was with the 5th wheel hitch. Hitch is heave and it really would help to have two people to install it. I’ve done it twice. Once with help and once without. Using the bed of the truck and a lever I was able to install the hitch myself.
All I can say is THANK YOU Tiffani S.! At first there was a mix-up and some issues with the order and re-applying a rebate that had expired, but finding Tiffani fixed everything. She was able to make things happen the way they should've from the beginning, and she got me all squared away. I have not installed the hitch yet, but things look like they should fit and are high quality.
