Video Transcript for Reese Ram OEM 5th Wheel Rail Adapter Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this Reese 5th-Wheel Adapter. So it's gonna be an adapter for your OEM puck system in the back of your truck so that you can put on a fifth wheel. Now we're gonna be putting on a 2022 Ram 2500 today. Now this 5th-Wheel Adapter is gonna be a base for your fifth wheel. So this drops down into the puck system.

That's OEM, it's already in your truck bed, which means you don't have to drill any holes to install a fifth wheel and makes it really easy to put this in when you need it or even take it out when you don't want it in here. Use the pucks in the back of the bed. So it's as easy as picking up the adapter and setting into place. So I'm gonna do that by staying in the middle of it. You grab both ends, bend at the knees, go ahead and lift it up.

Again, bend at the knees, drop into place. You line up the bottom parts right with the pucks and it falls into place. Now make sure it falls flat into place. All around, you might have to adjust if it's moving around just a little bit. You see the back end needs to go down so just make sure you put your hand.

Your apportion where there's the indent in the bed so you don't smash your hand. There you go, that one's down in place. Looks like we've gotta fix this one as well. Just some minor adjustments. Far easier than lifting a whole assembly.

So I need to turn this arm in a little bit and it'll fall into place. There we go, and now I fold all the arms in. They all meet in the middle. On both sides, we're gonna do that and add our clips. With the arms, pulled it in and on top of each other, you can just drop the pins through and push the clip over it. That's gonna keep them in place and do that on both sides. Now, if it didn't go right in the place, it's not perfect every time, you can do some adjustments. So if the first time it's a little rough, you can come here with a screwdriver, pop off this plastic cap. It wasn't installed when we unboxed it so that's something we added on there. So maybe leave 'em off for the first installation. But once that's exposed now you can use the tool that's included to make some adjustments so you can back this off. So it's gonna raise or lower that bolt to make it a little bit easier for it to drop into place. With it dropped and locked into place, you see I can't lift up on it so it's not gonna go anywhere. Another nice thing about the adapter is if you already have a fifth wheel assembly, chances are it will fit in here. I'm gonna give you the measurements from center to center. On the outermost holes, it's gonna be 29 inches. From inside to inside, center to center, it's gonna be 21 inches. So if it matches up with one of those it's gonna drop right into place. The adapter's gonna be compatible with: B&W, Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese, and Valley Above Bed 5th-Wheel trailer hitches. It also works with most industry standard sliders. The adapter is rated for 25,000 pounds and also it adds two inches of height to your fifth wheel. So if you are using an existing one that's set up already, you might have to adjust that head height just to make sure it adjusts to that extra two inches. And then the assembly itself is matted with black powder coated steel, so we know it's gonna hold up. Overall, I think this adapter's gonna be really helpful especially if you've just got a new truck with this system. You don't have to buy a whole new setup. You just buy this adapter and use the fifth wheel you already had which makes everything easier. You don't have to get used to using a new assembly or anything. You just drop this into place, install it, and you're good to go. It's an easy way to convert the under bed fifth wheel to an over bed fifth wheel. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. Hope this helped..

  • Recommended Aftermarket Underbed Puck System for 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500
For your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500, the manufacturer puck system is not available in aftermarket but there is a very similar option to give you the 4 pucks. It is the Reese Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30868. This system is a confirmed fit for your truck and if you want to also add the 5th hole for the gooseneck you can do that using the Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Head Kit - 25,000 lbs # RP30158. Payload can be used as the maximum allowable pin weight. With that said the M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs part # RP30928 that you looked at would be a perfect fit for your trucks payload. It offers a max 5000 lb pin weight and will work with trailers up to 20,000 lbs. If you don't already have fifth wheel...

  • Recommended Sidewinder Pin Box or Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch for 2015 Ram 1500 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
For your 2015 Ram 1500 with the short 5-1/2 foot bed, the ProSeries 16K slider as you stated will not allow the turning clearance you need. I recommend using a Sidewinder pin box and a fixed hitch for your application. So I recommend starting with using your 16K hitch on the Replacement Base Legs for Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30727 which are a confirmed fit. Then use the Sidewinder Wedge Kit for Pro Series 16K # 30850. Your pin box looks like a 1621, and if that is what is printed...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Setup for 2020 Ram 2500 Mega Cab with Ram Boxes
For all cab styles of the 2020 Ram 2500 that have the Ram Boxes the only solution to tow a fifth wheel trailer is with the Sidewinder pin box replacement as it moves the pivot point up high enough not to interfere with the narrower bed rails of the Ram Boxes. You'd need a fixed hitch like the part # RP30047 with a custom rail kit for your truck like the Curt # C16427-204 which fits your truck and the Reese hitch. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and In-Bed 7-Way for Long Bed GMC Truck with Rails
Hey Steve, it sounds like you have a set of fifth wheel rails in the bed of your truck already and are just looking for a hitch to fit into them as well as a 7-way kit that puts the 7-way up in the bed. Check out the attached picture to see what the rails you have SHOULD look like. For a hitch you could then use the Reese 16k part # RP30047 since you have a long bed and do not need additional clearance to make tight turns. Then for a 7-way you would want the part # 41157 to give you...

  • Why Can't Demco Recon Fifth Wheel Hitch Be Used with Sidewinder Pin Box
Since Sidewinder pin boxes pivot and twist in a different way from standard pin boxes they require fifth wheel hitches to be attached to the truck in four points around the perimeter of the hitch. That's why you can't use a Sidewinder with a Demco Recon # DM8550045 since it connects to the truck via a gooseneck ball only which is right down the middle of the hitch. If you can get me the year/make/model of your truck I can recommend best hitch setup to tow a trailer with a Sidewinder pin box.

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for Use with Reese Revolution on Fifth Wheel Trailer
Since your trailer has a Reese Revolution pin box (which is the best way setup for a truck with as short of a bed as you have), you need a fixed hitch that attaches to a rail kit in four places. The Companion style hitch like you mentioned which attaches through the gooseneck ball shank cannot be used with the Revolution pin boxes. The Reese Select Plus # RP30081 that you referenced would be a great choice but you'd need a rail kit installed in the bed of your truck. If you can get me...

  • Recommended 16,000 lbs 5th Wheel Hitch
Hey Lloyd that's an interesting measurement. All of our 5th wheel hitches like the 16,000 lbs Reese item # RP30047 fit standard 5th wheel rails spaced 22" on center front to back, which is actually closer to 21-13/16". You're awful close with 21-1/2" on center. What 5th wheel hitch are you currently using?

I appreciate the time you've spent researching all the different products; I'm happy to offer you my expert recommendation to facilitate your purchasing decision. The Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16115 and the Reese 16K # RP30047 are very similar but I'm going to give the advantage to the Curt because of its autolocking jaw and excellent price point. • What Fifth Wheel Hitches Fit Reese Rail Kit part # RP30153
The Reese Fifth Wheel Rails part # RP30153 that you have are industry standard rails that will fit quite a few hitches on the market. They are compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley 5th-wheel hitches. A very popular option I really like is the Reese Titan hitch # RP30047 as it has a cushioned head and a jaw system that wraps around the king pin for a secure connection.
