Reese Double Jaw

Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Unlike the more economical slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Kwik-Slide Square-Tube Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Ram 2500

Shane: Hi, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Reese dual jaw fifth wheel trailer hitch with square tube slider on our 2018 Ram 2500. This hitch is designed to easily hook up and disconnect from your fifth wheel trailers. This hitch is designed for an above bed rail set up like we have here. It's going to allow you to easily not only put your fifth wheel hitch into the bed of your truck, but also take it out to give you total bed access. You can see it has a very nice wide base to give you plenty of stability when pulling that fifth wheel trailer. We're going to have a 16,000 pound gross trailer weight, and a 4,000 pound vertical load limit. Our head is going to pivot in four different directions, so we can not only hook up but unhook on unlevel ground.

Forward and backwards, and side to side. Our head assembly is going to have a nice wide opening, this is going to make it easy to hook up to our fifth wheel and disconnect even if we we're at a slight angle. This is going to be a dual jaw design, and what sets us apart from your single jaw, is you got more surface, surface contact with a better fit around that king pin. This is going to remove or eliminate a lot of the jarring effect you get when you're stopping and taking off, or when you're going over obstacles.I've got a piece of plastic here, this is a simulate a kingpin on a trailer. I'm going to go ahead and insert this. You can see it's kind of wore out.

We're gonna close this up around it, and you can see we really don't get a whole lot of movement out of there even with how we're out this plastic is.Now to operate the jaws, you're simply going to pull the handle, you're going to flip the lock, you're going to slide the handle out, and it locks into place. Once you back into your king pin, you pull the handle, it's going to lock around your king pin, and you place a lock on. Nice thing about our lock, it has a hole here, and there's a plate here that allows you to put a padlock on it so nobody can come up and disconnect yet.Another nice feature, so we're going to have a plate here, it's got a hole in it, and then our lock, it's going to have a hole in it. When we lock our handle into place, we can put a padlock on there and that'll keep or deter someone from coming up in unlocking and disconnecting your fifth wheel. Now let's move down to our height adjustability. You notice the four holes, this is going to allow us to adjust the height of our hitch in four different increments.

From our lowest at 15 inches, all the way up to 18 inches at our highest. Now how we operate our slider, we're going to have a lock towing, we're going to have an unlock, and we're going to have a lock maneuvering. We're going to have a guide pin that tells us where we are. Now, this slider is great for short bed trucks. We unlock it. We're going to slide it all the way back to the back towards the tailgate, lock in the maneuvering.

This is gonna allow us to park our trailer at an angle. We're not going to have to worry about the front of the trailer, the nose of the trailer hitting the cab of the truck. When we're ready to take off again, unlock it, slide our hitch back up, lock it into the towing position. Again, this fifth wheel hitch is for a above bed rail kit. You're going to have a foot that's going to slide down into your rail. You'll have a pin that's gonna slide through the rail, and through the hole in the foot, just like that. Then you'll have a clip to lock it into place. This hitch is gonna have a nice black powder coat finish, it's going to resist any rust or corrosion and stay looking nice for a really long time. This is going to be one of the more economical hitches. There are other hitches available, they give you a few more upgrades. All of those hitches can be found here at etrailer.com.

  • Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for Use on a 2017 Ram 2500
According to the online version of the owner's manual for your 2017 Ram 2500 it states that the towing weight limits for a 5th wheel trailer are 25,000 lbs Trailer Weight and 5,000 lbs Tongue Weight. You will be able to safely pull your trailer with the 2500 model. The best option that we have when it comes to a sliding 5th wheel hitch is to use the Hijacker Autosliding 5th wheel hitch. The Demco Hijacker that I recommend is the 18K # DM8550034 along with the base rails # DM8552025-71...

  • Can 5th Wheel Hitch be Installed on 2018 Ram 2500 with Ram Box
You can indeed install a 5th wheel trailer hitch on your 2018 Ram 2500 without the factory puck system but the Ram Boxes will require that another component be added to your setup. Because the Ram Boxes limit the available turning clearance over the bed, a Reese Sidewinder or other similar pin box that moves the pivot point away from the king pin will need to be on the trailer. This is the only way to allow for proper turning clearance with the Ram Box models regardless of whether or not...

  • Parts Needed to Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer with 2020 Ram 2500 with Ram Boxes
Thanks for all of the info you listed on your camper and tow vehicle. Since we know your camper has a Lippert 1621 pin box the correct Sidewinder would be the # RP61422. On trucks with Ram Boxes the only way to tow a fifth wheel trailer is to use a Sidewinder pin box since it moves the pivot point up higher so there is no pin box interference.

You'd just need to enter the hitch's item number in the box and we'll get the replacement hardware for you, but if It's a hitch we don't carry we aren't going to be able to help. If you let me know below what you have I'd be happy to cross check to see if we can help you out.

  • How to Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer with 2015 Ram 2500 Short Bed with Ram Box
I have a solution for you, but the problem with the Ram Box is that is that it puts the rails of the bed too close together and it causes interference with the pin box of the trailer around corners. We have heard several customers say that with a Sidewinder pin box they were able to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a truck with a Ram Box. Sidewinders move the pivot point higher so the Ram Box wouldn't interfere. The only problem is that Sidewinder hasn't officially said that you can use...

  • Solution for Fifth Wheel Trailer Towing with 2016 Ram 2500 with Ramboxes
Sounds like you are talking about the Rambox toolboxes that are built into the bed rails of the newer Ram trucks. These make the truck bed a bit narrower so fifth wheel towing gets interesting. We do have a solution though that will work great. The only way to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a vehicle that has a Rambox is to use a Sidewinder pin box on the trailer. You should note that Sidewinder has not tested this, but we know from our customers who have tried this setup that the Sidewinder...

The articulink rear suspension on your 2017 Ram 2500 Power Wagon will not cause any issues with a set of airbags or a 5th wheel hitch because they all install in slightly different locations on the vehicle and do not counteract one another. For a set of airbags, I recommend using the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs part # AL57289 because they do not require any drilling into the truck frame and they do not interfere with the brackets for a 5th wheel hitch. I was able to find some information for you. On your 2019 Ram 2500 CC SB with the 6.7 cummins you will have a payload capacity of right at 2500 lbs. Payload can be used as the maximum allowable pin weight. With that said the M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs part # RP30928 that you looked at would be a perfect fit for your trucks payload. • Can 2016 Ram 2500 with Ramboxes Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
The only way to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a Ram truck like your 2016 Ram 2500 that has the Ramboxes is with a Sidewinder pin box. This moves the pivot point up higher so that it can clear the narrower bed rails. With gooseneck hitches this is not an issue so that wouldn't be a problem with the Curt # C60660. • Towing Trailer with Goose Box Behind 2016 Ram 2500 with RamBox Feature
There is definitely a way to tow a 5th wheel trailer with your 2016 Ram that is equipped with the RamBox, but it's going to require some new components both on the trailer and your truck. The issue with the Ram Boxes is that they make the bed rails really narrow on the truck, so much so that you can't make turns without a standard pin box or adapter like a Goose Box knocking into them. But with that being said, you're still going to need a hitch no matter what you choose to do, so I'd recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitches for 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD with Short Bed
As long as you stay with a name-brand product like Reese, Husky or Curt, you should have no problems. You will want to choose a hitch whose weight capacity exceeds the fully loaded ready-to-tow weight of your fifth wheel. Because your truck has the 6-1/2 foot bed, you will want to choose a sliding hitch. A slider provides additional clearance between the front of the trailer loft and the rear of the truck cab, to prevent the trailer from striking and damaging the truck during turns. The...

  • Where are the Holes Drilled Through the Bed to Install 5th Wheel Rails on a 2001 Chevy Silverado
Each year, make, and model truck is going to have different installation kits so you cannot go by a video for a Dodge since you have a Chevy. There are several series, bed lengths, and trims of the 2001 Silverado available. If you can tell me specifically which you have I can tell you all the kits that fit and provide instruction links for them. Because different trucks use different kits the holes drilled through the bed can be in different places. If you were using the universal kit...

  • Will Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Kwik-Slide Tube Slider Work Well on 2017 Ford F-250
If your 2017 Ford F-250 has the 6-3/4 foot bed, the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider # RP30051 referenced in your question will work great with the 15,000 pound gross weight of your trailer. This is a really nice sliding hitch that will provide 10 inches of front to back travel for making tight turns, along with a 2-jaw locking system for a secure connection with the trailer king pin. It features a 4-Way pivoting head that will ease hookup on unlevel ground and an adjustable...

  • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit For Pro Series Hitch for 2006 Ford F-350
To use your Pro Series 15k fifth wheel hitch in the bed of your 2006 Ford F-350 what you will need is a rail kit that was designed for your new truck like the Curt # C16448-204. This provides the exact set of rails your Pro Series hitch needs.

  • Is A Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Required When Towing With A 6' Bed
Typically with any bed under 8' in length we recommend using either a slider hitch or fixed hitch and rotating pin box to prevent the nose of the trailer from coming into contact with the cab of the truck when making tight turns. There are some trailers that have tapered noses that allow for more turning clearance, but it's always best to play it safe. You can see how much turning clearance you have by taping a plumb bob to the outermost corner of the trailer's nose and measuring from...

  • How Much Does The B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider BWRVK3670 Weigh?
This B&W companion hitch # BWRVK3670 is one of the most well built 5th wheel hitches on the market and weighs in just shy of 300 lbs. One good thing is that the head is easily detachable from the base. The head weighs 70 lbs and the base is about 230 lbs by itself. So you do not have to lift the whole thing at once. B&W also makes a lifting tool part # BWRVXA3130 which can make moving the hitch much easier. The lift tool inserts in the jaw where the king pin would go and basically give...

  • Is The Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel hitch The Bes Option For A 2024 Ford F-250 With OEM Puck System
I personally do not like the Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th wheel trailer hitch in any of its forms. It provides zero cushioning, unlike most hitches currently on the market, which can give you a rough ride quality. I've also seen too many videos of these hitches failing and crumpling in on themselves to trust them. The connection point for the pin box is further back for more clearance but a sliding hitch would give you much more turning clearance to prevent the nose of the trailer from...

  • Troubleshooting Reese Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch That Won't Lock Into Place
The legs of the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider # RP30051 have a spring loaded latch to lock the legs in place so you're either not getting it fully lined up in place for the legs to lock or the latch itself is broken. I would start by making sure the rails are clean and lubricated with some # RM-747 so that we can rule out any obstructions. If the rails aren't binding up then there is an internal issue with the latch and unfortunately you're looking at replacing the...

  • How To Reduce Noise With Pivoting Head of Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch Not Hooked to a Trailer
The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider part # RP30051 no longer has a lock out kit for the head available. I spoke to Reese and it was something they stopped manufacturing years ago. However, if you are experiencing a lot of noise then you want to make sure your rubber bumpers are not worn down. If you take a look at the exploded diagram of the hitch part 42 are the rubber bumpers that are meant to absorb the movement to reduce the noise. If they are worn out or missing...

  • Above vs Below-Bed Hitches and Recommended Hitch for 2018 Ford F-350 with 6.75-Foot Bed
Above-bed hitches are installed on rails that remain in the bed of your truck even when the hitch is not in use. With below-bed hitches, the installation equipment is installed beneath the truck bed, so the fifth wheel hitch simply drops into the pucks and locks in. Below-bed systems provide complete access to your truck bed when the hitch is removed—there are no rails that remain inside like there are for the above-bed systems. I've included a photo of each for you to check out. Because...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Use with a Lippert Turning Point Pin Box
Since you have the Lippert Turning Point pin box you would not need a slider hitch such as # RP30051. You would need a fixed hitch such as # RP30047. The Turning Point pin box moves the pivot point of the trailer back which is why a slider hitch doesn't need to be used (and really shouldn't be used, especially not slid back). The Turning Point comes with a universal wedge to lock out the ability of the trailer to pivot at the hitch. But a custom wedge will do the job better. For the above...
