Forged, Self-Latching Jaw

Self-Latching Jaw

The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.

The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.

Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.

Quiet, Comfortable Ride

Pivot Bushings

In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.

King Pin Indicator Prevents High Pinning

King Pin Indicator

This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.

Easy-to-Use Latching Handle

Lever and Hitch

This hitch's handle is designed for smooth motion and effortless operation. It requires only 2 fingers to use and won't bind up as you pull. In addition, the handle is long, so it's easy to access from outside of your truck bed. And the ergonomic grip makes it comfortable to hold and pull from different angles.

Video Transcript for Review of Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - Outboard Mounting Brackets - RP56016

Jeff: Hello everybody, this is jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the Reese Quick-Install custom outboard brackets for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. Now this kit is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2011 to 2016 Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty trucks without the OEM prep package. And on a custom fit part like this, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this'll work for your application. Now, these are custom outboard brackets, which will dramatically reduce the amount of drilling and time required to install your fifth-wheel trailer hitch to your vehicle. These installation brackets will mount beneath your truck bed, and they provide the attachment points right here for your fifth-wheel rails. Now, these are just like the original custom mounting brackets. These brackets installed below the bed, and they do use existing holes in the truck frame, minimizing installation time and will help minimize drilling and measuring.

And it cuts down that installation time by more than half compared with universal bracket systems. The biggest difference with these, these are outboard brackets, and they're designed to install outside the vehicle's frame. So the result is a much simpler installation process where most underbed components can be easily avoided because you're working outside the frame rails, and you also have easier access with your tools and more room to work, making the whole process, less of a pain. Now these outward brackets are designed to work with the extended length base rails. We do sell those separately on our website. They're part number RP30153. Now those above bed rails are five inches longer than the standard universal rails so that they'll match up with the mounting points on these brackets, which will sit below the bed and outside your truck's frame. You can see it does include the hardware for mounting these brackets to the vehicle frame.

Nice set of instructions on how to install them. And these parts are a nice sturdy black powder coat steel, so they do resist corrosion. But that should do it for the review on the Reese Quick-Install custom outward brackets for the fifth-wheel trailer hitches.

  • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2016 Ford F-250/F-350
For your 2016 Ford F-350 Super Duty long bed the Reese fifth wheel rail kit part # RP50026-58 is a confirmed fit that requires no drilling into the truck frame for installation. Or for an easier to install kit we have the outboard rail kit part # RP56016-53 that also does not require any frame drilling. Since it installs on the outside of the frame it will be noticeably easier to install as well as the other kit I mentioned uses brackets that install on the inboard side of the truck frame. These...

  • Outboard Reese Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Fit Confirmation for 2016 Ford F-350 Rail Location Dimension
For your 2016 Ford F-350 short bed (or long bed) the Outboard Reese Rail Kit part # RP56016-53 that you have is listed as a fit. Since this is a custom fit, outboard kit it will be the easiest kit to install. The frame brackets being on the outside of the frame makes things much easier. The center of the jaws of the hitch will end up approximate 7/8 of an inch in front of the rear axle center. From the rear edge of the truck bed to the rear edge of the rear rail will measure 27-5/8 inches.

  • Are Firestone Air Bags Compatible With Reese Quick-Install Brackets and Rails on 2015 Ford F-350
Yes, the Firestone # F2703 are compatible with the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit # RP56016-53. The # RP56016 brackets mount on the outboard side of the frame rails on your F-350, and the air bags will install on the inboard side. I also recommend adding an onboard air compressor like the Firestone Air Command II # F2219. This will allow you to control the air pressure wherever you go from the cab of your truck. It is a dual path system so you can control the air...

The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Above Bed - 18,000 lbs # DM8550034 is an excellent hitch for your 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4x4. I personally think this is the best hitch available for short bed trucks because it has the autoslide ability to give you the clearance you need for safe turning. This hitch connects to industry standard 5th wheel rails, so I recommend the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Above-Bed Base Rails and Custom Installation...

  • Difference Between the Reese Custom and Outboard Installation Kits for a 2015 Ford F-250
The Reese Kit # RP50026-58 is a custom fit and provides base rails that are industry standard while the Reese Kit # RP56016-53 is an outboard installation kit which is much easier to install but has a slightly different design. It is still compatible with industry standard 5th wheel hitches though so you will not have to worry about that. Outboard installation kits are definitely the best option for installing base rails on your 2015 Ford F-250 as they as the easiest to install. Essentially...

There is the Reese Elite that you mentioned, part # RP30126, that's an aftermarket puck system very similar to the factory system. • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for Replacing RBW Lil Rocker
The Lil Rocker fifth wheel hitch you have is designed to fit the same industry standard fifth wheel rails as the current hitches made so we have several hitches that would work. The Reese Hitch part # RP30047 would be a great option. It has a 16k capacity and has a great jaw design that will hold the king pin of your trailer tightly for a smooth towing experience.

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2018 Ram 2500 With 6-1/2 Foot Bed
The fifth wheel hitch I strongly recommend for your 2018 Ram 2500 with the factory puck system is the B&W Companion # BWRVK3670. The Companion is considered by many to be the highest-quality fifth wheel hitch available. It features dual jaws which are a full 1" thick to provide complete contact with your king pin so you can have faith that your connection is completely secure. I've added a picture of the jaws so you can see for yourself how impressive they are. The Companion is also...

  • Recommended Wedge Kit For A Reese Sidewinder And Reese M5 Fifth Wheel Hitch
Yes, the Universal Wedge for 5th Airborne Sidewinders # 201100 will work with the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret RP34FR, but the correct wedge is more dependent on the type of fifth wheel hitch. If you have a Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30928 like we talked about in your previous questions then you'll want the Sidewinder Wedge Kit for 20,000-lb Reese M-Series # RP44FR. This custom wedge kit is designed to fit the jaws of your hitch for a more snug fit. This...

  • Can a Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Be Used in a Long Bed Truck
You can use a slider type of 5th wheel trailer hitch, like # RP30051 in a long bed truck. In a long bed truck it is very unlikely that you will need to use the sliding feature of the hitch to make 90 degree turns safely. It can remain in the tow position (not slid back) and you should have enough clearance with an 8 foot bed truck. A slider should only be slid back when making tight maneuvers and not for general traveling. For something rated higher, but is not a slider, we have the Reese...

  • Why is Truck Bed Payload and Pin Weight Capacity Different for 2019 Ford F-250
There is a big difference between the payload capacity of a truck and the pin weight capacity from a fifth wheel or gooseneck trailer. The difference is due to the fact that payload is basically the weight capacity of the truck bed and pin weight capacity is for the frame of the truck since the hitch attaches to the truck's frame and comes through the truck bed. The bed doesn't support the in-bed hitch at all which explains why there's a difference. I believe you have a 2019 Ford F-250...

  • Will Curt A20 5th Wheel Hitch Work with Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pins
I do have an option for you but the Curt A-Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches like part # C16140 are only compatible with the first generation Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pins, not the second generation Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin because there was an issue with the wedge shearing off during testing. If you have the first generation then you can use the Sidewinder Wedge for Curt A Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # C16992 but if you have the second generation then you will...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Towing Setup for a 2017 Ram 1500 with a 5-1/2 foot Bed
Since your 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 has a box that is shorter than 6 feet you will actually need to go with a stationary 5th wheel hitch and then change the pin box on your trailer to a Sidewinder pin box. There are no sliding 5th wheel hitches that will allow you to make a 90 degree turn with a truck that has a box under 6 feet. The Sidewinder takes the pivot point on your towing setup and moves it from the king pin back 22 inches to the rotating pin box. We have a selection of Sidewinders...

  • 2019 Ram 2500 Pin Weight Capacity and Fifth Wheel Recommendation
I was able to find some information for you. On your 2019 Ram 2500 CC SB with the 6.7 cummins you will have a payload capacity of right at 2500 lbs. Payload can be used as the maximum allowable pin weight. With that said the M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs part # RP30928 that you looked at would be a perfect fit for your trucks payload. It offers a max 5000 lb pin weight and will work with trailers up to 20,000 lbs. If you don't already have fifth wheel...

  • Cushioned Pin Box For 2012 Voltage 3950 RV and 20k Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch
As long as your 2012 Voltage 3950 RV has a Lippert 1621 pin box on it already the Flex Air part # LC328492 would fit as a replacement and work well. This was designed to match the height dimensions of the standard 1621 pin box like what you have so it would not add or remove any height. For a 20k Reese hitch that would fit rails of your truck and work well the Reese M5 part # RP30928 would be a great option. It has a single hook jaw that holds the king pin very tight which will also help...

  • Is Reese M5 Available for 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500
There are a few reasons why you are having problems finding the Reese M5 hitch as a fit for your 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500. The first is that it looks like you input that you have a 6-3/4' bed with the OEM Prep Package. While that is an excellent option, Reese hasn't released a sliding M5 hitch as of yet (March 2020). We do have the 20K M5 # RP30928 that fits standard base rails but you'll need the adapter # DM6333 to make it compatible and we only really recommend stationary hitches...

  • Recommendations for Less Chucking On Cougar 5th Wheel with Lippert 1621 Pin Box and 2016 GMC 1500
For your 2016 GMC 1500 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed, the B&W Gooseneck along with the B&W Companion are not a fit for your truck. If you have the 6-1/2 foot bed, then they are confirmed to fit. With a 5-1/2 foot bed, it is strongly recommended to use a fixed hitch and a Sidewinder pin box replacement to give you the turning clearance. A Sidewinder cannot be used with a Gooseneck hitch and adapter. Here are your options: 1- Remove the gooseneck hitch and install bed rails like the Reese Quick-Install...

  • How to Pull a Fifth Wheel Trailer With 5-1/2 Foot Bed Ford Truck
The only way for you to pull a fifth wheel trailer with a 5-1/2 foot bed is to use a Sidewinder and fixed fifth wheel; a sliding hitch would not give you enough clearance between the hitch and cab and would not allow you enough space to turn without your trailer smashing your cab. If you let me know the year and model of your Ford truck I may be able to find a set up for you. In the meantime please take a look at the help articles I've linked on fifth wheels and Sidewinders.

  • What 5TH Wheel Hitch Attaches To 5TH Wheel Rails That Don't Have Slots Like Industry Standard Rails?
Currently the only hitch I know of that uses rails different than the ISR Industry Standard Rails is the Demco Hijacker # DM8550032. This uses a different type of Underbed Rail and Installation Kit # DM8551000 that only has 4 holes that the hitch will drop into and lock onto. While it is possible to have another type of system that may have been discontinued you can send me pictures and measurements of what you do have and I can use that information to determine if there is anything else...
