Reese Double Jaw

Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Unlike the more economical slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Kwik-Slide Square-Tube Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - Universal - RP30035 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number RP30035. This is the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches. It is going to be a 10 bolt design. The base rails are going to provide necessary attachment points for your 5th wheel trailer hitch. The universal brackets are designed so that they fit most applications, and then the adapter brackets can be used to ease installation on certain vehicles. The kit's going to include both rails, four brackets, two larger ones with more mounting options, and then the two smaller ones, and it's going to include all the hardware that you need, all the instructions, and the fish wire that you just thread onto the end of the bolt, and you can bring it through the appropriate hole as needed. It makes it a little bit easier to get the bolts in the right place. Some compatible hitches are going to be Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky.

This does work with RBW Li'l Rocker Hitch Fifth Wheel Hitch. It will not fit the Reese Elite Series Signature Series or Valley UBS hitches. It's made from a nice solid steel construction with a nice black powder coated finish on it, so it is going to stand up well against rust and corrosion. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RP30035. This is the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches. .

  • Semi-Custom Base Rail and Installation Kit for a 2003 Ram 2500 and a Husky Slider 5th Wheel Hitch
We do have a semi-custom base rail installation kit for your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed, however, the Reese Semi-Custom Base Rail and Install Kit, # RP30035-023, that you referenced will not fit in your truck. This kit was designed for newer model Ram 1500 trucks. Instead, you will want to install the Reese Semi-Custom Base Rail and Install Kit, # RP30035-023, if your truck has overload springs, or # RP30035-186 if your truck does not have the overload springs. You can use a semi-custom 5th wheel install kit # RP30035-023 for your older Reese Trail Boss 5th wheel, but you also have an easier option, which is a custom install kit that requires less drilling. Reese kit # RP50140-58 will save you several hours install time by reducing the need for frame drilling, thanks to its included brackets. Universal install kit # RP30035 is not recommended for your truck.

To install the Reese fifth wheel rail kit part # RP30035-023 in your 2006 Dodge Ram would require you to remove the Blue Ox gooseneck hitch you have. No, you do not want to tow the trailer with the slider # RP30051 in the maneuver position. This position is only for tight maneuvers where extra clearance is needed between truck cab and trailer overhang in order to safely make tight turns. For regular towing the hitch must be locked in the towing position. Moving the hitch back puts the weight of the trailer behind the rear axle of the truck. • Why Can I Not Mount a Fifth Wheel Hitch so that the King Pin Sits Behind the Rear Axle of the TRuck
The main problem with mounting the hitch so that the kingpin falls that far back in the bed is that having all that weight behind the rear axle would lighten the load on the front axle to the point that steering control and braking power might be compromised. A much better alternative would be to use a hitch with a slider such as part # RP30051 or a Sidewinder rotating pin box.
