Secure Wraparound Jaw with Locking Bar

Single Dimensions

The single-piece, strong wraparound jaw completely surrounds your trailer's king pin for 360 degrees of contact. This wraparound jaw provides a more secure connection than standard 2-piece jaws that close in on the king pin from the sides. The increased jaw-to-king-pin contact on the Recon hitch offers tighter tolerances around the king pin, which minimizes both rattle and chucking, for a smooth, quiet ride.

A 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar spans the area in front of the jaw. This bar provides an added barrier of protection against accidental disconnection so you can have peace of mind that your trailer is secure. The locking bar is attached to the jaw and to the spring-loaded handle. The bar automatically locks when the jaw closes around your king pin.

Double-Pivot, Cushioned Hitch Head

Side PivotPin

The double pivoting, cushioned head improves your towing experience dramatically by helping to reduce jarring and unwanted noise. Built-in pins allow the hitch head to pivot back and forth and side to side. And hookup is easy because the hitch head will automatically pivot to the proper angle when it comes into contact with your pin box.

Polyurethane dampeners help to cushion the movement from the pivoting head and to reduce towing noise. These dampeners are built into the head assembly to cushion the head's side-to-side pivoting.

Easy Installation

The Recon hitch is designed to mount to the included industry-standard base rails, which install in your truck bed and are anchored to the included custom brackets that attach to your vehicle's frame.

Recon detailedRecon detailed 2

Assembling the hitch is quick and easy because of its lightweight, 2-piece design. First, attach the base to the base rails. Then simply slide the head assembly into the opening in the base. There are 3 different height settings to choose from - just slide the head up or down to find your desired height.

Recon detailedRecon detailed 2

Once you have chosen your desired height, use the included pin to secure the head to the base. Finally, tighten the bolt to eliminate any movement and rattle.

Video Transcript for Review of Demco Fifth Wheel - Replacement Head - DM6169

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this replacement head for the Demco Recon 5th Wheel trailer hitch. Has a 21,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this part here will replace the head assembly on your Demco Recon 5th Wheel trailer hitch. It does work on part numbers DM8550043, part number DM8550045, and part number DM8550046.

Those three hitches we do sell separately on our website. Now, this head here will have a nice wraparound, single-piece jaw. Provides a nice, secure connection. Does give you a 360 degree jaw-to-king-pin contact, and because of that, it'll give you less rattle, more security than the slide bar jaws. Also, if you noticed on this, it has this large 3/4 inch thick solid steel locking bar.

Right in the front here, that'll reinforce that connection of your coupled trailer. And when it does close, this will automatically lock into place when the jaw closes. Now, this is a double pivot hitch head, which will ease hookup, help limit chucking. Basically, when this is installed into the yoke head on the hitch, it'll pivot front to back and side to side. Does have a nice spring loaded handle over here with a nice comfort grip.

Allows for simple coupling, and has a nice tethered safety pin here that lets you secure the handle in the open or the closed position. Right now, it is closed just to show you how you open it. You just take out the pin, and again, it's tethered so you can just let it hang there. And then what you'll do is pull this handle all the way out. And once you get it far enough you can hear it locked into place.

And now you can see the jaws open, ready to accept your connection. So once you slide the king pin in there it'll wrap around there, lock into place, and then just put your pin back through the hole to secure it. This is a sturdy steel construction. Has a nice rust resistant black powder coat finish on it. It is made in the USA. Few specs on this. The gross towing weight capacity is 21,000 pounds, vertical load limits 5,250 pounds. But again, if you have it in the open position you can even flip the pin and clip through there to lock it into the open position if you prefer. But that should do it for the review on the replacement head for the Demco Recon 5th Wheel trailer hitch..

by:

Ultra Fast shipping and delivery Josh in costumer service awesome for getting dimensions quickly from Demco not listed easy install just waiting on RV to arrive to go pick it up.

by:

Easy to read and install. Just received it although it covers my safety chain brackets, should be a easy fit!

by:

I like the hitch but for some reason after a long trip it seems to get loose and buck a little bit even after I torque it to spec! Other than that it's a great hitch.

by:

It is heavier built than I expected, haven't gotten to use it yet, but I'm itching to. Extremely happy with the set up of the hitch. The welds are all clean and solid. I will write another review after my first use. But overall I'm extremely happy with the hitch so far. Good job Demco and thank you etrailer for a very easy and stress free transaction.

by:

Easy install. This set up makes switching between 5th wheel and Gooseneck a breeze.

by:

I like the ability to remove the entire hitch and only leave a small round plug on the bed floor.

by:

Fit perfect in my 2020 f350 tremor

by:

Very noisy!! Makes you think something broke. It’s good if you don’t want to break the bank. But when parking you’ll hear the loud noises coming from the hitch. Other than that it works fine.

by:

So far so good pulling my fifth wheel around. I went this route so I could have dual purpose and not corner myself with just a drop in plate with my trucks factory fifth wheel package. No issues with this hitch, locks tight and no slop.

by:

Hitch works great and delivery from etrailer was fast.

by:

I bought this to replace a Demco Autoslide hitch. The Autoslide was great but too heavy for me. Because of my bad back, this was a great choice! The hitch is awesome, easy to put in and out. Quiet and smooth towing. Thx E-Trailer!

by:

Easy to set up and use I borrowed a buddies cause I bought a camper and didn’t have a hitch set up in the bed of my truck just had the goose neck ball pulled real nice so I order o e just like it

by:

This hitch met all my expectations and beyond. I have traveled over 10 thousand miles so far and it has worked very smoothly. Thanks JoAnn

  • Rail Kit Solution for Demco FWH-24P In Bed of 2003 Dodge Ram 2500
I contacted Demco directly. It's not as simple an answer as I'd like but really depends on what you have. The FWH-24P is the part number of hitch head only. That hitch head was used on 2 different series of 5th wheel hitches. This would have been manufactured by the former owner of the Demco line in Canada. They had 2 series of hitches one was the SL series and the rails ran front to back in the truck bed. The other line of hitches was a UL Series and those run side to side in the truck...

The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider, part # DM8550034 will work great with your 2004 Ram 2500, and will work with the Lippert pin box you have on your trailer. This hitch features an automatic slider that means you do not have to get out of the truck to operate the slider any more. It also features a wrap around single jaw that helps reduce rattle, and with a dual pivoting head you will have less chucking so that you have a smoother ride. The 5th Wheel Rail...

  • Demco 5th Wheel Base Rail Kit Position in 2007 Dodge Ram Short-Bed Pickup
5th wheel hitch installation typically places the hitch center (where the king pin will be when the trailer is hitched) directly over or slightly forward of the rear axle center line. The exact position does depend on the specific vehicle configuration. Demco base rail kit # DM8552015-71 which fits the short-bed 2007 Ram 2500 does indeed have its rear base rail positioned so that its centerline is 32-inches from the rear edge of the bed.

I did some research on your 2006 Dodge 2500 with a Cummins diesel and the towing capacity is 12,859 lbs so your trailer that has a max loaded weight of 10,995 lbs would be within the capacity of the truck and you'd be totally safe. There are a few different HiJacker 5th wheel hitches that use Ultra in their name. All of them fit in industry standard above the bed rails. For an installation kit for your 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 you have some options. If your truck has 4 wheel drive you can use installation kit # DM8552016-71 or # DM8552015-71. • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed
Since you have a short bed truck you are going to need a slider hitch to allow you to make tight turns. Short bed trucks don't have the clearance needed for a fifth wheel trailer to make a tight turn so a slider hitch allows the hitch to move back several inches when at slow speeds to give the needed clearance. • Does Demco Recon Fifht Wheel Hitch Minimize Chucking and Rattling?
The two parts of the Demco Recon # DM8550043, which are the head unit # DM6169 and base assembly # DM6180 each weigh approximately 50 lbs. This is a very lightweight hitch but still has a 21,000 lb capacity and vertical load limit of 5,250 lbs. The Recon # DM8550043 offers a double-pivoting head as well, from front to back as well as side to side in a manner much the same as other premium fifth wheel hitches. It also has polyurethane dampeners built into the hitch head to soften the side-to-side...

  • Wedge for a Lippert Turning Point and a Demco Recon 5th Wheel Hitch
The 6169 number you provided comes back to the Replacement Head for Demco Recon # DM6169. With the picture you provided, it looks like you have the Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550043. The wedge that you would need to use with your Lippert Turning Point is the 5th Airborne Custom Wedge # SWW-05. While the # SWW-05 wedge does not specifically list the Turning Point, we have had customers in the past let us know that this was a fit for their Recon and Turning Point.

  • Is Blue Ox Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter Compatible with a Sidewinder Pin Box?
If you use the Sidewinder in the locked-out position so it's like a standard pin box then you can use the Blue Ox Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # BLU52XR, but if you're needing to use the rotating turret feature for increased turning clearance we need to look at another option as the Blue Ox will basically just spin on the gooseneck ball since that's the only connection point. To continue to use the turret I recommend checking out the Demco Recon # DM8550043 which is pretty...

  • Can A Sidewinder Be Used With the Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch On a 2019 Ford F-150
Yes, the Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # DM8550043 can be used with a rotating pin box so long as you also obtain the 5th Airborne Custom Wedge for Hi-Jacker Fifth Wheels part # SWW-05. The Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter part # DM8550045 cannot be used with a rotating pin box which I think is where the confusion lies. In order to use the Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch on a 2019 Ford F-150 you need the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Above-Bed Base...

  • Difference Between Sidewinder Reese Revolution and 5th Airborne Pin Box
The Reese Sidewinder and Revolution are the exact same thing. Sidewinder is the brand name when you buy one aftermarket and Revolution is the name if the pin box came on the trailer frame the factory. So basically Reese sells Sidewinders to customers and Revolutions to trailer manufacturers. But they are the exact same. 5th Airborne setups are a cushioned pin box that can be offered as a standalone cushioned pin box or as integrated into a Sidewinder/Revolution. So basically if you need...

  • Is Demco 21K Recon Compatible with Lippert Turning Point for a 2015 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2' Bed
If you have the 13K Demco Autoslider # DM8550040 that installs on industry standard base rails, like part # RP50087-58, then yes, the Demco Recon # DM8550043 will fit in the 5-1/2' bed of your 2015 Ford F-150. As far as compatibility with the Lippert Turning Point pin box goes, since the opening for the Recon hitch head is a little larger than normal 5th wheel hitches I doubt that the universal wedge that comes with the Turning Point will fit correctly. We have had customers say that the...
