Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A16 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A16 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

R16 Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Non-Binding Design

The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.

With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.

With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

Video Transcript for How to Install the Adapter Rails for Curt 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider on a 2022 Ram 2500

Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at these Curt Adapter Rails on our 2022 Ram 2500. Now that's going to be an adapter piece from the factory puck system if your RAM came with that in the bed and adapt it so you can use your pre-existing Curt Fifth Wheel with Slider Base. So if you already have that from a previous truck and you just mounted it up to your ISR rails, then this is going to be the piece that lets you use it with your new truck that has the prep package for towing. So rather than getting a whole new fifth wheel that's designed to work with that factory puck system, you can use what you already have, drop it into this adapter piece and keep using it as normal. Let's check it out.

So this is going to come with all the pieces and hardware you need to get things up and running. Your slider base is going to drop in to these rectangular slotted holes in each corner. Those are going to look very familiar to those who already have a fifth wheel set up and it's going to be the same size slot as those rails you maybe had before. And then this does come with the pins and clips to secure underneath with the tabs. Of course, you can upgrade to locking pins as well as locking pins here at the corners where this adapter attaches to the bed.

But out of the box, it's going to come with pins and clips and you can upgrade them later on if you decide to. Those quarter turn levers at each corner are going to be how we actually attach this into the factory puck system, where we drop this down in, turn that lever to lock the tab in and keep this from popping back out, keeping it very secure in the vehicle. And then when we're done, that's exactly how we remove it too, leaving nothing behind so you get full unhindered access to your truck bed. Now if you're starting from scratch and you need to build a whole fifth wheel hitch set up from the ground up, no worries, we've got plenty of kits here available at etrailer that you can find to suit your needs based on what kind of weight capacities you need and what features you need. But in all this is designed to work with Curt Sliders.

So whichever option you go with or if you end up piecing together your own kit, just remember that it's designed to work with Curt Sliders not necessarily other brands. And this is designed to work with sliders. So for our truck right here where we don't have a long eight foot bed, that's going to be perfect. That extra clearance from the cab is what we want and this is the piece that can get us there. But that'll do it for our look at these fifth wheel adapter rails from CURT on our 2022 Ram 2500.

Thanks for watching.

Love the hitch, slider's OK, my truck hates them though. It'd probably be fine in a different vehicle but The "acceptable play" in the slider mechanism is at a resonance to my truck and camper creating a vicious front-back oscillation hitting rough surfaces. After addressing several other issues and the problem persists. Finally, I 3D Printed bushings to eliminate the play which almost completely eliminates the oscillation. On the bright side, Curt and etrailer are working with me on it.

1st off, customer service was Awesome, the ladies Ashley & Kim knew what they were talking about when helping me order my hitch.
Installation was fairly easy, would help if you had a 2nd person but I got it done.
The 1 thing that might be an issue is the height of the hitch when added with the height of the mount. I am hoping the new trailers kingpin will adjust low enough so the trailer rides level.
For the hitch itself, I like it so far, can't wait to see how the full wrap around jaws works.
I would recommend etrailer to anyone that needs a hitch.
Gave ot 4 stars only for the fact I have not pulled with it yet.

The Curt A16 5th wheel w/ R16 slider is a great looking hitch. I received the hitch on May 11, 2023, replacing an older Reese 15K hitch with a slider lock bar. It was easy to finish the assembly and install. I immediately took my fifth wheel out, using the new hitch with the dual jaw locking system. The ride was amazing. The RV, which weighs approximately 10,000 pounds, loaded, did not buck or rattle, and responded perfectly to the turns, acceleration and deceleration with no issue. It was if there was nothing behind me.
The only issue with the Curt A16 is the height. At its lowest setting, the nose of the trailer was up too high. However, by raising the tongue of the RV to its highest setting, I was able to remedy most of that issue. I am looking forward to my trips this year with the new hitch!

by:

So far it works great. Only pulled in a short distance and backed it up into my driveway. Make sure you have help lifting this. Very Very heavy. Directions were average but got the job done. Love the extra turning radius on my short bed F250. Make sure all the parts are there. The handle to release the king pin off the hitch was not in the packaging. The box that the hitch and slide came in were all in tacked and looked good. Emailed etrailer and within a few hours they sent were processing the order for the handle. Arrived in 2 days. That's great customer service.

by:

The hitch works great for us pulling our 5th wheel camper.

Ram 2500/3500 fit issue. If you purchase this slider hitch and Curt OEM puck system rails (which is a package recommended on the website), this hitch will sit nearly at the same level as your bed rails at the lowest height setting. This makes the front of the 5th wheel sit quite high. I tried adjusting my pin box to make this work, but no luck. This setup won’t work for my Ram 2500. Due to restock fees and having to pay for return shipping costs, it’s not worth trying to return.

On a positive note etrailer.com is a great place to purchase truck and trailer parts, so don’t hesitate to purchase from them once you find the right hitch for your Ram.

by:

This is a solid hitch. I pulled my 34 foot 5th wheel last weekend and really liked it. I had the Pullrite auto slider before. not a fan of that hitch. One thing i did notice with this hitch on top the Ram adapter for the puck system is my RV sits up 1 1/2 to 2 inches higher. With the ISR that is lower. Other than that i love it.

by:

The pins to secure the upper part of the hitch to the adapter rails, were very difficult to attach the cotter pins. Wasn't enough clearance to get under the bed adapter. Had to detach the adapter from the truck bed and lift one end at a time to be able to insert the cotter pins.

by:

First off I just got done installing the hitch and I hooked on my 35ft fith wheel trailer and went for a ride with windows down sun roof open and not a single rattle , clank , or noise from the bed of the truck with this hitch . It was easy to assemble but I did have one spot where the paint got chipped on the slider during shipping so I just touched it up . Very satisfied with hitch it latches automatically when you back in to it and the slider part works like it should .

by:

Have not gotten to tow yet but everything went together fairly easy. One major disappointment was the shipping and the packages were dumped in my driveway.

by:

UPS lost the adapter rail. I had to cancel a camping trip. Mike B.,customer service rep at etrailer was very responsive and contacted UPS to have the matter investigated. After a few days the part was never located. etrailer sent another one. The entire 5th wheel package is very well built and fit the truck perfectly. No issues

by:

This piece never came. The stuff (head) that did come was handled horribly by the shipper and came repackaged in about four rolls of packing tape and random cardboard components. It looked like a fort a six year old might make. Neither issue should be a reflection on etrailer (except indirectly in the choice of shippers).

by:

Upgraded from TT to fifth wheel. Once I learned the basic operation I have had mo problems with this hitch. Rides a little high because of adapter for factory puck adaptor but still fits my tonneau cover which I also bought from etrailer.

by:

The Curt system is really high quality. No issues at all putting the system in. One thing I do like is the position of the plate handle. It does not stick upward and is even with the plate. By designing the handle that way I can still cover my bed with my tonneau cover where other manufactures the handle was higher than the bed rail. The price was excellent and dealing with customer service was the same.

by:

Everything works very well, quality built. Only issue I had was the pins to lock the fifth wheel hitch to the spider arms. The pins were too large in diameter for the holes when I used the isolation pads. So you may need to find slightly smaller diameter pins at the hardware store, I was in a hurry and used the grinder to allow them to fit, but later found smaller pins to use.

by:

Looks like a received a returned hitch. All my hardware is missing. And still waiting on one box. The sliding rails. Starting off to a bad start.

by:

Easiest item I have ever installed on my truck. 4 bolts to set it up then dropped the entire assembly into the Ramming bed puck system. Plan to haul our 5th wheel rv with this. The slider will help if we get into tight area at the rv park. Simly to use. Love it

by:

Great product. Easy to assemble and fits perfectly in standard bed rails on 22” center. I have coupled up with it but have not towed with it yet. Have a short trip of about 400 miles coming up in about 2 weeks. So far I am very happy with the way it couples and slides. Unlike my old square tube slider this one is very smooth and the price was right . Ordered late afternoon on Thursday and it delivered on Monday. Great shipping time. I like everything about it especially the fact that when you uncouple it is automatically set to recouple.

by:

Very happy with this hitch. Installed it myself with the installation instructions and trailer videos. Mush easier to operate than my old hitch.

Curt A20 5th Wheel Hitch Fifth Wheel Hitch 2018 Ram 2500 This was not easy choice to make as I tend to try top save money. But with my truck and the puck system this has been an excellent purchase. The removable pin let's me pull the top of the hitch off while leaving the rest in the truck. This allows me to store it in front of the adapter rails. Then my roll up bed cover clears the top while the rest is still mounted. Dry, secure out of site out of mind while shopping or parked at RV park overnight. The slider allows the extra clearance to give you peace of mind you will not damage your truck while backing into tight spaces on a serious angle. Then of course the top comes off with that pin making the entire thing lighter to remove when taking the entire assembly out of the truck. IT is manageable but still better to use the tractor bucket or hoist as it is heavy duty. No issues and very happy with this purchase and the continued great service from etrailer! I pulled a 34 ft 5th wheel 1800 miles at average of 75mph. Did not even know the trailer was back there when the wind was not blowing. Thanks again for helping me put this package together and having the lowest price while doing it!

by:

I am very pleased with my 5th wheel hitch.the install of the rails went well, and the assembly of the hitch itself also went well.first time towing 5th wheel no problem. I thought it was great that it was delivered promptly to my home no charge freight, that I believe saved me a lot money. I look forward to doing more towing this summer knowing the hitch is quality . Thank you for the follow up,I would recommend e trailer to anybody shopping for trailering equipment.

by:

Great hitch and great value. Our trailer is 2000lbs on the hitch and 12000lbs loaded, so not a huge rig. My favorite feature on this hitch is the locking jaw system, it makes coupling and un-coupling very smooth. The slider (when rarely used) is very smooth as well. Most of our towing is in the Colorado mountains and I feel very safe using this hitch. Lastly, I know this is just aesthetics, but it's a nice looking hitch.

by:

I love the way it sits and fits in my truck. The instructions and installation were very clear and easy to follow and assemble. And there is still room to have my tool box’s and a chain between the 5th wheel and my tailgate. My tank cover fits perfectly over the top and my support bars don’t touch the 5th wheel either.
I am very happy with this 5th wheel. It works just like all the descriptions said it would. It will make pulling our camper a breeze.
I would recommend this hitch very highly. And will be recommending all my friends to this company for all future hitches.

by:

I bought a 5th Wheel camper on May 13th. On the 14 I started shopping for a 5th Wheel Hitch. I landed on etrailer’s site. I found what I wanted in no time. When I went to check out it said I should have the unit it 3 days. Which would be Friday. I needed to pick up my Camper on Monday. I called because I wanted to be sure it would deliver on Friday. They assured me I would have it Friday. I placed my order at 11am and by 3 pm I had an email saying the Hitch had shipped. To my surprise it arrived on Thursday. I’m very mechanically inclined and it took me about 2 hours to put the Hitch in my 2017 Ram 2500 with the in bed puck system. I did have to remove my bed liner which I will put back in at a later date. The installation went pretty smooth. I found it helpful to watch the videos on the installation. I picked up my camper on Monday and drove 100 miles home. So far so good. It’s going on 600 mile journey over the Memorial Day Weekend. I was very impressed with the customer service when I called and the very quick free shipping. Great Job etrailer.

We love our Curt A16 5th Wheel Hitch W/r16 Slider that we purchased last year through etrailer.com. This hitch is a top quality, well-made hitch. It's very easy to hitch and unhitch. We couldn't be happier.

  • Difference Between The C16022 And C29BR Fifth Wheel Adapters
Both adapters will fit the puck system in your 2023 Ram 2500. The # C16022 is designed to work only with Curt brand sliding fifth wheel hitches like the # C16541. The # C29BR is more of a universal adapter and can be used with both sliding and fixed fifth wheel hitches. The # C29BR will also work with other brands of fifth wheel hitch such as B&W and Reese. It will work with most fifth wheel hitches designed for industry standard rails. We generally recommend a slider for short bed models,...

The Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package # C16049 would fit in a 6-1/2' bed like your 2022 Ram 2500 has, but you're limiting the amount of turning clearance you have and run the risk of the nose of the 5th wheel coming into contact with the cab of the truck when making tight turns. Because of this we typically recommend a sliding hitch to prevent this from happening. For a sliding version of the Q25 you would need parts # C35DR and # C16022. Newer model trailers...

Typically short bed trucks need slider fifth wheel hitches to have enough turning clearance which it sounds like is your main issue. You do have the factory fifth wheel rail kit in your 2018 Ram 3500 so the best option is a slider hitch that attaches to it like the Curt Q24 slider part # C16546 with the Ram rail kit adapter...

The Curt Adapter Rails # C16022 that you referenced will drop into the factory pucks on your new 2019 Ram 2500 (congrats on the new truck!) to provide industry-standard rails. Your PullRite Base Rail Adapter is designed to attach to industry-standard rails, so technically it will fit, however I cannot recommend doing this. Using an adapter on top of an adapter just creates way too much movement, especially considering you would be using an automatic sliding hitch on top of it. This would...

The B&W # BWGNXA2062 Gooseneck Ball and Safety Chain Anchors for Ram Under Bed Gooseneck Hitch would indeed be compatible with the Demco # DM8550045-5W Recon 5th wheel hitch, but it might not be the correct setup for you. With a short bed truck like yours you'll need to use a sliding 5th wheel hitch to prevent the front of your 5th wheel from contacting the back of the truck cab during turns, unless the front corners of the 5th wheel are dished in. • How To Determine The Correct 5th Wheel Hitch Height For A 2021 Ram 2500 And Grand Design 29R
To find the correct hitch height you will need to measure the height from the ground to the floor of your truck bed and the height from the ground to the king pin plate while the camper is level. The difference between these two measurements is what you'll need to set the height of your hitch to. You'll also want to ensure that the nose of your camper has at minimum 6" of clearance from the top of your truck's bedrails. For your 2021 Ram 2500 I recommend the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer...

The reason the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer HItch # C16520-16021 you referenced is only recommended for long bed trucks is simply because it is a fixed hitch. With short bed trucks like yours, you will need a sliding hitch in order to obtain the necessary cab clearance during sharp turns. If you like the Curt A16 design, I instead recommend the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider # C16521.
