Replacing Ramp Springs On Featherlite Snowmobile Trailer
Question:
I have a featherlite snowmobile trailer. This model has the hinge springs instead of a conventional torsion spring and pulley. The door has become heavier over time. 2 of the springs are loose/have no tension. It doesnt look like the hinge pin is removable without removing the welds. Ive measured the weightinch of the door on a scale at 40lbs but the door feels heavier when holding the door at a 30 degree angle. Im thinking the springs are no longer helping out past that point. What is the best way to determine door weight or conventional ramp assist spring capacity with the hinge springs helping a little bit? Or perhaps I can stick with the hinge-spring setup and only need to replace some springs?

Hey Richard, thanks for reaching out. Using a scale really is the best way to determine door weight. It sounds to me like your springs are just worn out and in need of replacement. Especially since you say the door has been seeming heavier over time. If the springs are original from 2002, they definitely need to be replaced. Your best option will be to get a direct replacement for the current springs. We offer a similar ramp spring, the # RS16933LH and # RS16933RH but these are much shorter than the springs in your picture. I have included dimensions of our spring below, but you will definitely want to find something that is more similar/identical to the current springs.
