OEM Brake Controller Wiring Colors on a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500
Question:
Hey guys i have a 07 dodge ram 3500 and my oem electric brake wiring seems different than described on your color chat. Here are the following colors on my oem harness:1 red w/ tan - 2 white w/ red - 3 green - 4 black. Im having troble installing with the tekonesha prodigy universal brake control wires. PLEASE HELP!

Manufacturers change the wire colors on vehicles for seemingly no reason sometimes. Actually, the colors get changed because there is some engineering change that causes them to make wire color changes. Your truck must be one of the models that has an alternate wiring harness that the colors were changed on. The best way to make the proper connections is to use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if needed, and test the port or wires under the dash. You will find a power supply wire, a stoplight switch wire, a brake feed wire, and a ground wire. I believe that your green wire will be the trailer brake feed, the white and red stripe wire will be the stoplight switch wire, the red and tan stripe wire will be the hot wire and the black wire will be the ground. You will need to test though; the last two wires may be switched. The heavier gauge wire will be the power wire normally.
Once you have determined each of these functions on the factory connector you can label each wire for its function. This way you make the correct connections the first time. The red wire from the brake controller goes to the brake light switch wire, the blue wire goes to the brake feed the black wire goes to the power wire and the white wire goes to the ground wire. There is a harness available for the Prodigy, item # 3020-P, that will plug directly into the factory connector under the dash of your pickup, if you have one, and supply the correct circuits to the Prodigy.
