Why is the Spindle Nut Not Included with the Hub Assembly

Question:

So these hubs go directly on the existing spindles of the mobile home axle and use same spindle nut and cotter pin that was on it? What about the back behind where this new hub sets in place, are there something you need to put there so that it will turn with no friction?

You can reuse the same spindle nut and cotter pin with the Dexter Hub Assembly, # 8-213-5UC1. The reason hub assemblies do not typically come with new spindle nuts is because there are different types of spindles that require different types of spindle nuts and cotter pins or washers. For example, if you have an EZ lube spindle (see photo) with a grease fitting on the end, you will not want a cotter pin going through the spindle. In place of a cotter pin, you would use a castle nut and a tang washer (see photo) to allow the grease to pass through the spindle to the bearings.

The back of the hub should not rub against any surface once it is installed. The spindle nut will hold the hub against the bearings and the bearings will prevent the hub from being pushed inward on the hub. I have attached a diagram and a photo showing the gap that you will have once the hub is mounted on the spindle.
