How Can I Transport My 14 Ft. Laser Sailboat on My 2016 Honda Fit?

Question:
Hello, I have a 2016 Honda Fit and Im looking to get a roof rack to carry a 14 ft, 130 lb Laser sailboat. What do you recommend? Ive read that the weight limit for the 2020 Honda Fit is 110-125 lbs even with a roof rack weighted for 160 lbs.

I have a great solution for that will work with the weight/length of your 130-pound Laser Sailboat on your 2016 Honda Fit. Unfortunately, with the approximate 125 pound maximum weight capacity of your roof, you will not be able to adhere to the roof rack weight limit since it exceeds the roof capacity.
With that being said, the safest way to transport your sailboat is by trailer. I recommend the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer - 66" # Y08106. With the Rack and Roll trailer, you will have the weight capacity you need (250 pounds). Also, you will be able to accommodate a single boat up to 17 feet long. I went ahead and linked a picture of a neighbor who used a long canoe with the trailer.
With the trailer, you will need additional parts. The parts you need are the following:
- EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 306-X7273
- InfiniteRule Hitch Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span # 34061071-D
- Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 8" Rise # C45112 (you will need to have this rise to make the trailer more level)
- 2" Hitch Ball - 1" Diameter x 2-1/4" Long Shank # 40038
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118767
- SmartStraps Ratchet-X Ratchet Tie-Down Straps w/ S-Hooks # 348345
With these parts, you will be able to safely transport your sailboat on your 2016 Honda Fit.
