My technical contact at TowReady advises that the ball locking mechanism on your TowReady Hitch Ball Set, part # 63802, locks by rotating clockwise and unlocks by rotating counterclockwise 1/4 turn. Normally a coin is sufficient to rotate the post 1/4 turn counterclockwise, but you may try a screwdriver if you prefer.
Please refer to the attached photo.
When unlocked the post should pop up above the surface of the hitch ball. If it will not release you can try lubricating with a spray-type lithium grease and then give the post a solid whack with a hammer. The post contains a spring that actuates the locking function, and if this spring is stuck in the locked position the lubricant and hammer impact may be enough to free it.
If this does correct the problem I suggest you thoroughly lubricate the mechanism before attaching and locking a hitch ball in place. If it does not correct the problem, you can contact our Customer Service Team for information about obtaining warranty coverage for your TowReady Ball Set under the terms of its Limited Lifetime Warranty. Our Customer Service team can be reached at 800-298-8924.
