Determining Pin Weight of Gooseneck Horse Trailer for New Truck Compatibility
Question:
We are purchasing a new 3500 to pull a Gooseneck horse trailer. How do we figure out the pin weight.

To determine the pin weight of your horse trailer you can use a tongue weight scale like the # e99044. I would do that with whatever your current truck is and then you will be able to determine if the new truck can handle the capacity.
Because you are looking at a 3500 model, the dually models will have a higher rating, but the SRW models will have a high capacity compatible with most gooseneck trailers. The payload rating is not the same as it includes the least supported parts of the bed, and a gooseneck hitch will connect directly to the frame for more strength. This is not rated by the manufacturer so the payload will give you a rough idea of the pin weight capacity but will be lower than your actual weight capacity.
