Parts Needed to Add Trailer Brakes to 1998 Coleman Pop Up Trailer

Hello John. I took off one of the wheels from my trailer. The axle is rated at 2090 Lb.(found a label on it) The Axle does have a square mounting flange with four holes for mounting of a backing plate for brakes, (just behind the grease seal). Note: It is smaller than the standard 3500 lb axle. I looked at the spindle and it measures 1.063 " for both inner and outer bearings (as far as I can tell). It only has one step (for the grease seal). I am not sure that your brake kit will fit. AKHD-545-35-EZ-K ??? The wheel is a 5 x 4.5" (13 inch). Let me know if you sell something that will work. To add electric brakes to your 1998 Coleman pop up camper you should be able to use the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting # AKEBRK-35-SA and then hub and drum assembly # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K for a 5 on 4-1/2". You just need to make sure that your current bearings are # L68149 and # L44649 plus verify that your grease seal has an inner diameter of 1.719". If you have something else please let me know and I can let you know what alternative parts you need.
You also need to add a 7-Way to your trailer so you can route 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 to your brakes. I recommend using the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit # HS381-9000 because it gives you a clean and easy way to connect and organize your wiring. In addition to the brake wiring you need a breakaway kit like the recommended Hopkins # 20099 so that your trailer brakes will activate in the event that your trailer is disconnected from your tow vehicle.
The last piece of equipment is for your tow vehicle and that is a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. I you don't already have a brake controller just let me know what the year/make/model is of your tow vehicle and whether or not you have any factory wiring for trailer towing and I can make a recommendation for you.
