Recommended Load Range for 235/80R16 Trailer Tire on a 9,995 lbs GVW Trailer
Question:
what load range do I need for a 235/8R16 tire on a horse trailer with GVW of 9995? I have two GVWs on my trailer plaque. The 2nd GVW is 5200? I am not sure which GVW I use to determine what load range I need to purchase.

For your application I recommend the Provider ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire, Item # TTWTRTM2358016E which has a Load Range E (3,520 lbs at 80 psi) and is easily one of the best trailer tire on the market. It comes with a max speed rating of 81 mph and a 2-year warranty.
The 5,200 lb rating that you found is likely the axle weight rating of your tandem axle horse trailer because 5,200 lbs is a very common weight rating. I believe that the first number you mention, 9,995 lbs, is the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of your trailer which means that is the max amount your trailer can weight when fully loaded.
With 4 of the Provider tires on your trailer they will be able to handle upwards of 14,080 lbs. Please note that you are limited to your least rated component. So even though your trailer tires are rated well above your trailer, the frame on your trailer could be the limiting factor which is why you don't want to exceed it.
