I Cannot Add Air To My Trailer Tires After Sitting
Question:
I ordered two of these tires trailer Item Code #AM10234 in October 2018 to replace the tires on my small travel 2016 T@B Max S – 15ft Tear Trailer. The trailer tires were replaced during the annual maintenance on my trailer in December 2018 and we just recently had a chance to take the trailer out for the first time since the replacement. As we do before every trip, I checked the tire pressure before we headed out and found that one tire had a pressure of 48 psi and the other was at 51 psi. I checked the “max pressure” on the tires and it noted 60 psi. I decided that 50 would be sufficient for the pressure. I proceeded to go to a gas station to put air in the one that read 48 psi. However, upon arrival at the gas station, I found that I was unable to put air into either time. I do not know what was happening, but I set the tire pressure machine at 50 psi and proceeded to fill the tire just as I had done with my tow vehicle 2017 Honda Pilot, except that was set for 32psi. Anyway, the trailer tire would not allow air to enter. I checked both tires to see if I could put air into the tire, but the same condition existed for both. Eventually, the tire pressure machine gave an “error” since it could not put air into the trailer tire. I again, check the tire pressure machine with my tow vehicle and it successfully put air into the tow vehicle tire. My question is – is it possible the new AM10234 tires are defective on the valve stem and only allow an initial fill of air and will not allow a follow-up fill? I cannot for the life of me figure out why a tire will not allow me to fill it with air. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.

The issue you are having trying to fill your tires is most likely either a stuck valve core or possibly that the compressor you are using is not rated for the pressure inside your trailer's tires. The majority of air compressors at your local gas station will however be rated for this so odds are the valve stems just need replaced. For this, we have part # AM20904. The valve cores going bad would not have anything to do with the tire itself. Please note, these trailer tires need to be filled to the max psi listed on the sidewall no matter how much weight you have in the trailer. If you need an air compressor rated for the 60 psi your tires need, I recommend the Goodyear tire inflaotr # GY94FR.
