I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2016 Toyota RAV4 to see if I could find a tongue weight capacity on the vehicle. The manual doesn't list a specific limit but typically when this is the case the number will be 10 percent of the vehicle's towing weight capacity. Under the Towing Section it does list a 1,500 pound towing weight capacity, which means the vehicle's tongue weight capacity is likely around 150 pounds.
With this in mind you will not be able to safely transport your 275 pound dirt bike using a hitch-mounted carrier.
Your only option to transport the dirt bike with your RAV4 will be to pull it with a small trailer like the Detail K2 # K2MMT4X6. If you decide to go this route you will need a trailer hitch (if you don't already have one), a wiring harness, and a ball mount and hitch ball combo.
For the hitch I recommend the etrailer.com Class III # e98864. This Class III hitch will use existing holes in the RAV4's frame for a no-drill installation and I really like its unique matte black powder coat that offers a rugged look (along with being corrosion resistant). I have attached an installation video on the 2012 model RAV4 that you can use for reference. All the needed hardware is included.
Then for a wiring harness to power the trailer's signal lights I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118578. This is a custom harness that will plug right into factory ports located behind the trim panels in the cargo area. Tekonsha is well known for producing reliable products and we hear of far fewer troubleshooting issues with their harnesses than we do with those from other manufacturers. I have attached an installation video to assist.
To tow a trailer you will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also included a couple articles on trailer towing that you might find helpful.
