Why do ISSE Snow Socks have 30 MPH Speed Rating
Question:
Hi, How come snow sock speed limit is 30mph. With snow chains and tires one can go much faster. Thanks.

Expert Reply:
Actually with tire chains you really shouldn't be going much faster than 30 mph. Highest rating we have is 35 which is even still pushing it. Going that faster is not only dangerous considering the conditions but it also can cause the chain/sock to start to come off the the tire just due to the speed. With chains you have to worry about a link breaking and then beating up the side of your vehicle and wheel wheel. With a sock you'd more than likely just end up losing control at that speed since they don't provide as much traction as a chain.
