Replacement Hub/Drum for UK-made 1980s Rice Horse Trailer
Question:
I need to find a hub for my 1980s Rice horse trailer. It looks and has the same bolt pattern as the one in the link below, but the inside hub diameter is 8. Do you have a hub like that, or know where I might get it? The trailers are not made any more, were made in England, and parts are hard to find. But its a really light trailer and Im hoping to keep it. Thank you.

To select a compatible replacement hub for your UK-made 1980s Rice horse trailer there are a few features you need to match up. Those features are the hub bolt pattern, the necessary axle weight rating which can often be found on the axle itself or on the trailer's main identification sticker, and finally the set of bearings used inside the hub. The new hub has to use the same bearings in order for it to fit on your existing spindles.
The hub/drum part # T1662600CB042 that you referenced has a 5-on-5-1/2 wheel stud pattern, works for axles rated at 2200-lbs and uses bearings # L68149 and # L44649.
Since it is quite possible that the original bearings in your trailer are no longer made, and it may be tough to find a reliable bearing cross reference, you can use a precision digital caliper to measure your spindles to the nearest thousandth of an inch, such as 1.234-inches as an example. Please refer to the linked photo.
If you can pull one hub and remove its inner and outer bearings you may be able to find those part numbers; if not measure the spindles where the grease seal and bearings ride, points B, C and D.
The linked hub page displays all parts with this same 5-on-5-1/2 wheel stud pattern and the included article will help you verify that this is indeed the pattern used on your hubs. The hubs we sell include bearings, races and seals.
