Fifth Wheel Sliders are used on short-bed pickups to prevent damage to both
the truck and trailer when you are maneuvering in tight locations and at low speeds.
When you are pulling a fifth wheel trailer, the king pin must be in front of the
rear axle. On short-bed trucks, the trailer is closer to the cab of the
truck so on sharp turns the trailer could actually come in contact with the
truck cab. The slider provides a greater turning clearance by moving the
king pin farther back to the rear of the truck when you are maneuvering at low speeds
around camp sites, etc. providing a greater turning clearance.
