Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 GMC Acadia

Today on this 2012 GMC Acadia, we're going to be installing Tow Ready Trailer Harness, part number 118451. The first thing we need to do is remove the tail lights. There are two screws holding in each tail light housing. We'll use a small flat headed screwdriver to pop open the covers and use a 7-mm socket to remove the screws and remove our two tail lights. Be careful as you pry the mount not to break off the positioning tabs or tear the wiring. With the tail light out, we'll go ahead and disconnect it from the vehicle's factory harness.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 GMC Acadia

Today we are working on a 2008 GMC Acadia. We will be installing Tow Ready T-one connector part number 118451. Our first step will be to access the rear cargo area of the vehicle. We are going to remove these two tabs and the bolts underneath them so that we can remove the taillight lens. We will repeat this process on both sides. OK, you can see we have uncovered the two hold down bolts. We are going to go ahead and remove them now. OK, now that we have our hold downs removed, I am going to go ahead and pop the lens assembly off of the vehicle. You can see here is our taillight wiring. We are going to go ahead and disconnect it from the lens now also. It may be necessary to take a small screw driver just to help pull the locking tab back while you disconnect it. Be very gentile as to not break the locking tab. We will go ahead and set out lens assembly aside for now and we will repeat the same process on the passenger side. 0:59

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation- 2011 GMC Acadia

Today we will be working on a 2011 GMC Acadia, installing Tow Ready T-One connector part number 118451. We will start by accessing the rear cargo area of the vehicle. There are two fastening points for the tail light lens that needs to be removed. We are going to do that now. We will pop the driver side tail light lens out, you can see the manufacturers connector. It may be necessary to use a small screwdriver. We are going to pry up on the locking tab and disconnect the wire. We want to do it gently to make sure we do not break the tab. :42

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 GMC Acadia

Today on this 2010 GMC Acadia we are going to install part number 118451 from Tow Ready. The first thing we need to do is open up the back hatch. Next what we are going to do is go ahead and remove the two cover-ups for the screws here. That way we can unbolt the taillight. We are going to do this on both sides of the vehicle. Then we will go ahead and completely remove the taillights by disconnecting right here. It is a tight fit but you have to pull up on this tab right here and pull it apart. Alright, we have our passenger side done. We will repeat the same process on the driver side. Next we are going to take the 4-pole from the T-one and just it behind the body work here and out the bottom of the bumper. 0:48

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 GMC Acadia

Today on this 2009 GMC Acadia we are going to be installing part number 118451 from Tow Ready. We are at the rear of the vehicle now and we are going to be removing the driver side and passenger side tail lights. We are on the driver side right now. We are going to pop these plastic caps out that are protecting our screws so pop those off and we will have lanyard that is holding them in position. We are going to remove the bolts that are holding in our tail light. It is going to be the same on the passenger side as well. Then we are just going to pull out our tail light assembly and disconnect it. Take this tab here and pull it back and it will pop out. We are going to set the tail light aside and we are going to remove the passenger side tail light as well. 00:46

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 GMC Acadia

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118451 on a 2008 GMC Acadia. OK, we are here at the back side of the vehicle and the attaching points for our wiring harness are actually located directly behind the tail light assemblies themselves on both sides of the vehicle. So the first thing we want to do is to go ahead and remove them. There are two black caps on each one of the assemblies. You need to pop those back, and that will give us access to the fasteners that are holding the tail light assembly on. We are going to remove those fasteners and pull the tail light assembly off to gain access to the connectors themselves. We just take a little flatheaded screwdriver and pop that right back. And as you can see, there is a regular hex head screw in there. And you want to be careful when you are doing that to make sure you do not break the locking tabs. And we are just going to take a little 7-millimeter socket here and remove the bolts. With both screws removed, we want to go ahead and gently pry away the tail light assembly. There are two aligning tabs here on the back side. You want to make sure that those do not break. You just want to gently kind of wiggle it back and forth until they release.

There will be a round plug going into the back of your factory 7-way connector that will mate with the round plug from the Multi-Tow harness. • Trailer Lights Malfunction on a Small Utility Trailer Behind a 2009 GMC Acadia with Factory 7-Way
  • Vehicles with LEDs will have problems with standard trailers unless a powered tail light harness is used, or there is a factory tow package. If your 7-Way on your Acadia is indeed a factory connector, you should have no problems with LEDs vs. incandescent lights. Most small utility trailers do not have a 7-Way. 7-Ways are used on larger trailers that have electric brakes, or hydraulic systems powered by a battery, or boat trailers with hydraulic actuators with reverse lockouts. • I spoke with one of our installers who has installed T-One harness part # 118451 on a 2008 GMC Acadia, and he said you should have no problems. If a T-One harness needs a converter, it will have one built in, but in this case it does not. • Wiring for a 2009 GMC Acadia
  • The correct T-One wiring harness for your vehicle is the 118451. Our site lists this harness as being okay for all models – it will work with all LED lights. Please note the tech tip: "Do not splice into the vehicle's wiring system to wire a trailer connector, use only the t-connector that plugs into existing connections." Despite what your dealer indicates, we sell many of the kits, which are then self-installed. I will attach an installation video for your reference below for this product.
