  • There is no difference in the front end frame and bumper structure between a 1992 Sport and Full-Size Explorer. The Sport has a shorter frame and less doors, but that does not make a difference up front. The Eddie Bauer, XLT and Limited editions have different bumpers that will not allow the use of a base plate kit. The base plates bolt to the front of the frame using three bolts on each side. The mounting points for the tow bar stick out by the bumper so the tow bar can be attached.

Your vehicle weighs right at 5,000 lbs, and if you are loading your vehicle, I would choose a tow bar that goes up to 6,000 lbs like the Roadmaster Stowmaster, just to be on the safe side.
