Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram

Today is 2006 Dodge 3500, were going to install brake controller from Tekonsha to P3 part number 90195 and a brake controller adapter part number 3020-P from Tekonsha. All right, first thing well do is go ahead and take our adapter cord and plug it into port just underneath the dash. This end of the adapter cord Im going to plug it into the port underneath the dash. Plug and well just go ahead and plug until it snaps and were good to go. Leave that alone for now, then well find a spot to mount our brake controller. This truck has a brake controller previously, so well actually one of its existing holes thats already in the dash and through that room were going to work here.

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2001 Dodge Ram

Today is 2001 Dodge 1500 Ram Pickup. Were going to install Brake Control, part number 90885, Prodigy P2 Brake Controller. And also well be using part number ETBC7 for installation kit. Now, first thing were going to do is go ahead and attach our bracket to the hitch for our wire harness. Next weve part number 118140. Theres not much to work with the hitch here, so were going to put it on the end at this point.

Brake Controller Installation - 2005 Dodge Ram 3500

Alright today on this 2003 doge ram 3500 pick up, were going to install parts for brake controller part number 90885. Were also going to install the adaptor core part number 3020-p. First off well go ahead and show you where the port is at on the vehicle, the tilt port is right behind this wire harness, its the blue socket right here. Were going to take our adapt cord and draw out the back, just plug right into it.Now the wire harness around it makes it for a tight fit, so you may have to pop the port loose to get a better angle at it to install it. Make sure it snaps into place and we got a cord. Now we go and find a spot to mount our bracket for our brake controller.

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Dodge Ram

Today on this 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 were gonna install the Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller with direct wiring harness part number 90195-3020P.Our first step is gonna be locating the manufacturers connector for the brake control. The blue connector just above the power control module is the one we need.Well take our direct wire harness and plug directly into the blue connector. Now were plugged into the manufacturers connection, Im gonna go ahead and set my harness aside and we need to mount our brake controller.Well take our mounting bracket that comes with our install kit and simply mount it here underneath the dash. Behind the plastic cover of the dash is a metal bracket and today Im gonna be using self-threading screws to install my bracket. You could drill a small power hole and use the screws that come in the install kit.Now we can go ahead and install the brake controller on our mount. Now with our brake controller mounted, well take the other end of our wiring harness and plug it right into the back of the brake controller. As you can see, the power lit up our brake controller. Now we just need to do some final touch up.Im gonna take a couple of zip ties and secure my wiring up underneath the dash. Simply take the extra from our wiring harness zip tie it off to the manufacturers wiring.

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2002 Dodge Ram 3500

Today on this 2002 Dodge Full Size Pickup 3500 were going to install a brake controller part number 90885, the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, and the adapter cord part number 320-P. First well start off with the adapter cord, alright this is our port right here, now it is kind of covered up by the wire, sometimes you can sneak it through or sometimes you could just pop it off and get a little easier access with it. It plugs together, were going to go ahead and snap this back into place, now well take our cord, and well just leave it alone for now. Lets go ahead and mount up the brake controller. Now well go ahead and mount our brake controller bracket in this are right here where it is still easy to reach, but not in the way either. Well just line up with this line right here; well use the hardware to attach it to the dashboard.

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Dodge Ram 3500

Today on this 2008 Dodge 3500 we are going to install the Tekonsha P3 brake controller, part number 90195. Our first step is going to be locating where you want to mount your brake controller. For this application, we are going to mount it right here. One of my mounting fasteners is also going to be one of the current trim fasteners. So I will go ahead and remove that first and install my mounting bracket. For my other fastener, we are just going to use one of the screws provided in the installation kit. 0:35

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Today we are going to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ brake controller on a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. We will also be using the Tekonsha wire harness, part number 3020-P. The Primus IQ is a proportional style brake controller. It sense how hard or how softly you are braking in the vehicle and sends the proper voltage to the trailer brakes so the whole braking action is smooth and even. It features a digital LED display and also has three levels of boosts to increase or decrease the trailer braking power as needed. It can be mounted between 0 degrees and 70 degrees nose up. And it is covered by a limited lifetime warranty. In the packaging for the brake controller, you will find the brake controller itself, as well as a fixed black plastic mounting bracket and a black metal bracket that we will not be using. You will also find a packet of screws for attaching the bracket to the vehicle and the controller to the bracket, as well as a generic harness with loose wire ends. But since we have our custom fit harness today, we will not be using that wiring. Let us head to the vehicle. 1:13

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 1990 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today on this 1990 Dodge Ram Pickup we are going to be installing Prodigy brake controller part number 90185 along with brake controller wiring kit part number ETBC7. We are going to start our installation back here at the rear of the vehicle and we are going to install our 7-pole at the rear first. The first thing we want to do is mount the bracket for the 7-pole. This particular vehicle has a nice large bumper that we can drill into. You just want to find a nice mounting location. Mark the holes and drill those out. I am just going to be using some self tapping screws to accomplish this. You can also drill 1/ 4 inch hole out if you like and use the provided hardware down through the bumper. Next we are going to take the 7-pole adapter from the ETBC7. Mount it on to the bracket and we are going to be doing that using the provided hardware. The next step is to merge up the 4-pole end on our 7 and 4 way adapter to the existing 4-pole that is on the vehicle. If you do not have an existing 4-pole you will need to add that on as well. However, this existing 4-pole unfortunately is not compatible with our 4-pole that we have on our adapter so what I am going to have to do is cut the ends off and wire them in direct. 01:14

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today on this 2009 Dodge Ram we will be installing the Tekonsha P3 brake controller along with the wiring harness for it, part number 90195-3020P. The first thing I want to point out is the factory installed 7-pole at the rear of the vehicle and this will be the indicator of whether or not your vehicle is going to have the factory installed brake control port under the dash. The factory 7-pole we are looking for is built into the bumper. It will have the Chrysler logo built on the front. If you do not have this plug you will likely not have the port under the dash that we are going to be plugging into. Thus will have to hardwire your brake controller into the vehicle. 00:38

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 1999 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today on this 1999 Dodge 1500 Pickup, we are going to install part number 90185 Prodigy Brake controller. We are also going to install this T-1 harness part number 118329 from Tow Ready and we are going to install this brake controller also with part number ETBC7. First off we are going to start off installing the part of the T-1 wiring harness part number 118329. We need to do that so our ETBC7 has a 4-pole to plug into. The connection points are underneath the tail light over here. What we are going to do is push the button on top and pull down the bottom and it will come apart. And we are working on the passenger side. On the passenger side we will install the connector with the green wire. All right, we will go ahead and route our 4-pole wire over to the center and then we will run our yellow wire, run that over past the center to the driver side tail light and we will make the same connection underneath the driver side tail light.

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 1999 Dodge Pickup

Today on this 1999 Dodge, we will be installing part number 90195-3020P. The P3 part. The first thing I want to note on this vehicle here at the rear is the 7-pole plug. This is actually a factory 7-pole plug which is going to allow us simply to plug our brake controller and adapter into place and go. To figure out if you have the factory 7-pole plug, you will note that this has got the welded bracket to the factory installed trailer hitch and if you actually look at the cover of the 7-pole, you will see the Chrysler logo and if you look closely you will see the actual Chrysler name written across the front. Those two indicators will help you know that you have got the correct factory plug.

Dodge Ram Pickup Brake Controller Questions and Answers

  • Issue With Dash Warning Light Illuminating When Installing Brake Controller on a 2003 Dodge Ram
  • The most likely solution is to cut away the red wire you found under your wheel that you ran to your 12 volt auxiliary. There should not be a 12 volt accessory wire in that bundle. If this circuit is needed for your trailer you will need to run wire from the positive side of the battery through a 40 amp circuit breaker to the 7-way. This should fix the trouble light you are seeing on your dash, but if not, you would want to sever the brake output circuit to see if that will fix the problem.

  • What Does the PL Error Code Mean on a Tekonsha P2 Trailer Brake Controller, 2004 Dodge Ram
  • The PL code on the Tekonsha P2, # 90885, indicates that there is a power loss while you are stepping on the brakes. The first thing I would check is the red wire. Using a circuit tester like # 3808, test the red wire when you step on the brake. It should show a signal when you step on the brake and no signal when you release the pedal. If it does not show a signal, then the connection to the brake switch is no good and you will need to make a new connection. You can also check the stop light

  • Electric Trailer Brake Controller for a 2010 Dodge Ram with Electronic Vehicle Information Center
  • An integrated brake controller would come from the factory or dealer on the 2010 Dodge Ram. If your truck does not have one, you can install an aftermarket brake controller. I have not heard of any issues with an aftermarket brake controller affecting the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC). The aftermarket controller work work independently of the EVIC. • The Tekonsha Prodigy RF Brake Controller, # 90250, can be installed on your 2007 Dodge 3500 4x4. It will require that you have a 7-way connector on your vehicle for the brake controller to plug into. The Prodigy RF brake controller is designed for use on one trailer that will be towed by different vehicles, like fleet owners with multiple towing vehicles. If you want to use it on your truck for towing multiple trailers it would be the same as installing a brake controller in the cab of your

This kit would allow you to plug in directly, for an easy installation. If your truck does have the 4-Way plug, you would just need a 4-Way to 7-Way adapter, like part # 37185, to equip the vehicle with the 7-Way connector. This adapter would plug into the 4-Way, and you would connect the additional wires on the adapter to comp
