Fifth Wheel Installation - 2012 Dodge Ram

Today on our 2012 Dodge Ram pickup we'll be installing the Curt custom fifth wheel installation kit, part number c16420-204. To begin our install first note we've already gone ahead and lowered and removed the spare tire and both rear wheels. Next we'll need to remove the heat shield. To do this there are a total of five fasteners that will need to be removed. We'll go ahead and remove the fasteners, and set the fasteners and heat shield aside to be reinstalled later. Using the measurements provided with our installation kit, we'll be taking the rear base rail and set it into position.

Fifth Wheel Hitch Installation - 2002 Dodge Ram

Today on this 2002 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 Series, were gonna install part number RP30035.Well start it off by removing the rear wheels. You dont have to do that but it makes things easier to install. Plus, you also have to remove the inner fender liners as well. Those are riveted in place so we had to drill those out. Weve also removed the spare tire additional base if we need. Now our next step would be to go ahead and start placing the rails in the bed of the truck. There are certain dimension you have to go by.

Fifth Wheel Hitch Kit Installation - 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Series Mega Cab

Today on this 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Series Mega Cab we will be installing the signature series rail kit part number 30074. The first thing we want to do in preparation to installing our cross members under the bed is to remove our spare tire and get it out of the way so we have some more working room. The cross members we are going to be installing are going to be sitting in between the two hat channels right above the exhaust and over top of the gas tank as well. On standard models you can follow the directions to fit the cross members in from underneath the bed and just manipulate them into position. However on this mega cab model the spacing is not there for us to do that so what I am going to do is loosen up the bed and slide the cross members in from the outside of the frame directly across over the top. 00:48

  • Moving Reese Fixed 5th Wheel Hitch Head # RP30047 to a Sliding Base in 2014 Ram 3500 Short Box
  • Reese offers a square tube 5th wheel slider base # RP30048 that will allow you to move your existing Reese # RP30047 head assembly to your new truck. If your truck has the factory 5th wheel rail kit installed you'll also need to use adapter # RP30154 to provide a mounting point for the slider base. This adapter fits into the factory pucks to provide a standard above-bed rail for the slider. If you do not have the factory rail kit you will instead use Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit #...

  • Will an RBW Lil Rocker 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Fit a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Long Bed
  • You are correct. The Lil Rocker was made by RBW. RBW was bought out by Hayes/ALKO and is no longer made. However, it is our understanding that the Lil Rocker will fit in industry standard above the bed rails. Take a look at the picture I have included that shows the measurements. The mounting feet on the Lil Rocker will have to be spaced 10, 20-1/2, or 29 inches apart, side to side on center and 22 inches apart front to back to fit. For the truck there are options for installation...

  • Over Under Kit Recommend for 5th Trailer to Allow Trailer to Sit Level and Have Bed Rail Clearance
  • The two things you want in regards to hitch height and pin box height are to have the trailer sit as level as possible and to have at least 6 inches from the top of the bed rails to the overhang of your trailer. To accomplish this you need to manipulate the heights of the pin box and fifth wheel hitch till both of those things are achieved. In your situation it sounds like your truck sits too high to accomplish both. If your axles are above your leaf springs what you can do is move them...

  • As long as you stay under the towing capacity of your 2012 Ram 1500 towing a fifth wheel trailer would be a perfectly fine idea. Since your truck bed is shorter than 6 feet you will have to go about things a bit differently so that you'll have enough clearance to make 90 degree turns. You will need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out...

On your truck with this kit you will need to measure from the rear edge of the truck bed (not the tailgate) forward 32-7/16 inches. This is where the back edge of the rear rails will be. Once you position the rear rail you can use the hitch to place the front rail. I have included a link to the installation instructions for this installation kit for you. • I spoke with my contact at Reese and they told me that 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 trucks with the towing package installed would require the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter, part # RP30154. This above bed system attaches to the underbed towing package. It attaches to the sockets in the factory package and furnishes above bed rails for your standard 5th-wheel hitch. They told me there is no adapter available that would eliminate the need for above bed rails when the towing package is installed. This...

  • Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2014 Dodge Ram that has the Factory Prep Package
  • There are certain adapters that create more stress on the trailer frame than others. If you end up using an adapter that secures to the pin box you will want to check with the trailer manufacturer to make sure that you can use it. Since there are no 5th wheel trailers that fit the OEM prep package on the 2014 Rams, you would need to use an adapter, # RP30154, that you mentioned. It will accept any hitches that fit in industry standard above the bed rails. This is the better option.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and/or Gooseneck Hitch for a 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 Crew Cab Short Bed
  • Because a Sidewinder cannot be used with any sort of 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter, the best option is to go with a 5th wheel trailer hitch if you have to use a Sidewinder. The bed liner will most likely have to be trimmed away in the foot print of the rails plus a little extra to account for the pins to secure the 5th wheel hitch. Slide-in bed liners need to be trimmed but spray-in bed liners do not. For your 2014 Ram 3500 short bed you can use Curt installation kit # C16426-204....

  • Is a Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Required for a Heartland Big Country Trailer on a 2008 Dodge Ram
  • The Heartland Big Country 5th wheel trailers have an extended pinbox and a recessed and rounded overhang at the bottom so it is possible but not guaranteed that you will not have to have a slider. However, I still recommend a slider for a few reasons. First, you never know what you might tow and you do not want to be caught in a jam where you will need a slider hitch. Second, depending on the length of your short bed, you may still need a slider hitch to safely make 90 degree turns. The...

Beds shorter than 6 feet require the addition of a Sidewinder replacement pin box for the fifth-wheel trailer you will be towing. Once you have selected a trailer and Sidewinder, you will need to install a stationary 5th wheel hitch in the...
