  • We haven't had a chance to install Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75712 on a 2014 Jeep Patriot but the measurement should be around 6-1/2 inches like on the 2011 model in the video I have linked to the right. We have installed Curt hitch # C13081 on a 2014 Patriot and it measured 6-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole back to clear the rear bumper. I have linked the video for this hitch as well. If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount...

  • What is Curt's Reason for Requiring Support Straps on Their Hitch Receivers
  • I spoke with my contact at Curt and a stabilizing/support strap, like part # 18050, is required for the Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C13081, in order to alleviate the leveraging affect that a non-trailer load places on the hitch. He likes to use the example of carrying a gallon of milk. Think of the strain that would be put on your arm if it is extended opposed to if you carry the milk close to your body. This is what also happens with a hitch when a bike rack or cargo carrier is...

  • Troubleshooting Converter Box of Trailer Wiring Harness on 2014 Jeep Patriot
  • You shouldn't be seeing voltage output unless one of the taillight functions is activated. The fact that you're seeing output, is a dead giveaway that the 12-volt battery feed circuit has internally shorted to the output circuits. This is usually caused by a short circuit in the trailer wiring. The converter is designed to isolate the vehicle wiring from any shorts, so the relatively inexpensive converter gets damaged rather than the more expensive to repair vehicle wiring. You would...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2014 Jeep Patriot Behind a Motor Home
  • According to the owners manual for the 2014 Jeep Patriot in the recreational towing section, you can only flat tow the vehicle if it has a manual transmission. If it is an automatic it cannot be towed with all 4 wheels on the ground. It can be towed on a tow dolly, such as # RM-2000-1, with the front axle on the dolly. This only works for front wheel drive models and would work with manual or automatics. And of course, the third option is to tow the vehicle on a trailer with all 4...

  • Will SportRack Vista Rooftop Cargo Bag Fit a 2014 Jeep Patriot with Side Rails Running Front to Back
  • If the factory side rails are raised above the roof line on your 2014 Jeep Patriot (they should be) then you can use the SportRack Vista Rooftop Cargo Bag # SR8106. A raised side rail will have a gap between the bottom of the rail and the roof. I do recommend using the protective pad # RL100650. It will not only protect the roof of your Patriot but also help prevent the bag from moving during starts and stops. Before loading anything on the roof consult the vehicle owners manual and/or...

The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground. For lighting you can use the bulb and socket...
