Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Ford Edge

Today, on this 2012 Ford Edge, were going to install part #118515 from Tow Ready. First thing were going to do is open up the back hatch and get access down to the spare tire. Well remove the cargo nets and the cargo floor hatch. While were down by the spare tire, well also remove the threshold and the two wells beside the spare tire. It gives a little extra working room. Then well go ahead and remove both taillight assemblies by removing the bolts on each side of the lights.

Today on this 2012 Ford Edge, we're going to install part number 87604 from Hidden Hitch. This is what the hitch looks like when installed on the vehicle. Next, we'll give you some measurements to help you out selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin opening to the edge of the bumper is going to be four-and-a-quarter inches. From top of receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 12 1/2 inches. Today on this 2012 Ford Edge, we're going to install part number 75709 from Draw-Tite. This is what the hitch looks like when installed on a vehicle. Thule T2 Platform Style Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2012 Ford Edge

Today on our 2012 Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting the Thule T2 Platform Style 2 Bike Carrier for 2-inch hitches, part number TH916XTR. Now to begin our test fit, we'll simply slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole, and install and tighten down our anti-rattle bolt. With our bolt tight, we'll put the key lock on the other side, securing our bike rack to the vehicle. At this point, we can give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance to the bike rack is 10 inches and from the closest point of the bike rack platform from the back of the vehicle in the stored position is 1 inch. We'll now go ahead and pull the switch to unfold the platform.



Thule Parkway 2 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2012 Ford Edge

Today on our 2012 Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting the Thule Parkway 2 Bike Carrier, part number TH958. Now to begin our test fit, we'll simply slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole, and install and tighten down our anti-rattle bolt. With our bolt tight, our bike rack is secured to the vehicle. We'll now go ahead and pull the pin at the bottom of the bike rack mast to tilt the mast down. We can then open our cargo door. Today on our 2012 Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting part number TH970XT. This is the Thule Helium Aluminum 2 Bike Carrier. Today on our 2012 Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting the Thule Apex Swing 4 Bike Carrier for 2-inch Hitches, part number TH9027. Now, all we'll need to do to fit this bike rack to the vehicle is slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, making sure that the integrated locking hitch pin is pulled out. Once the pin is over the collar, we'll push it back in and allow it to lock in to the hitch pin hole of the hitch. We'll then move to the back of the shank here where we'll tighten the knob down, securing our bike rack to the vehicle. We'll now go ahead and give you a few clearance measurements. Our ground clearance at the bottom of the bike rack is 11 inches and the anti-rattle knob is 2 inches from the back of the vehicle.



Surco Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2012 Ford Edge

Today on our 2012 Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting the 24x60 Cargo Carrier for 2-inch Hitches from Surco, part number 52018. Now to start our test fit, all we'll need to do is slide the cargo carrier shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole, and install the hitch pin. We'll then put the safety pin on the other side of the hitch pin which will secure our cargo carrier to the vehicle. We'll now go ahead and give you a few measurements. From the closest point of the cargo carrier to the back of the vehicle is 1 inch and the cargo carrier will add an additional 27 inches of overall length to the vehicle. Our ground clearance at the back of the cargo carrier is 10 inches and the exhaust on this vehicle does exit both the passenger and driver's side rear at the bumper.

Today on our 2012 Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting the SportRack 2 Bike Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier with Wheel Mount Cradles, part number A30901. Now, all we'll need to do is insert the cargo carrier shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole, and insert our hitch pin. We'll put the safety pin on the other side of the hitch pin which will secure our cargo carrier to the vehicle. We'll now go ahead and give you a few measurements. From the closest part of the cargo carrier platform to the back of the vehicle is 7 inches and the cargo carrier will add an additional 31-1/2 inches of overall length to the vehicle. Our ground clearance at the cargo carrier is 13 inches.

Now, to begin our test fit, we'll simply slide the cargo carrier shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pinhole, and install and tighten down our anti-rattle bolt. With our bolt tight, our cargo carrier is secured to the vehicle. We'll now go ahead and give you a few measurements. The closest point of the cargo carrier platform to the back of the vehicle is 1-3/4 inches and the cargo carrier will add an additional 21-3/4 inches to the overall vehicle's length. Now, the exhaust exits both the passenger and driver's side's rear of the vehicle and it's approximately 6 inches away.

WeatherTech Cargo Floor Liner Review - 2012 Ford Edge

Today on the 2012 Ford Edge, we're going to be doing a test of the Weather Tech floor liner in the cargo area, part number WT40325, in the black color. Now you see our Ford liner meets the interior of the trunk area, you have to use the tie down points as well. The Weather Tech liners are custom-mould to precisely fit the vehicle and stay in place. The shape, channels and moldings all work to keep dirt and debris on the floor liner itself and not on your carpet. These liners can be easily removed from the vehicle and washed and cleaned with just soap and water. This is also available in tan as part number WT41325, and grey as WT42325.



Thule Vertex 4 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2012 Ford Edge

Today on this 2012 Ford Edge, we're going to do a test fit of the Vertex 4 Bike Rack part number TH9029. A few quick notes about this bicylcle rack is that you can use it of 1-1/4" receiver hitch both class 1 and class 2. However with a class 1 receiver hitch, you are limited to two bicycles. This will also work in a 2-inch receiver hitch as shown here with the provided spacer. We'll start off our test fit by installing our bike rack into the hitch and then tighten down the anti-rattle bolt. Thule Apex 4 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2012 Ford Edge

Alright, today on this 2012 Ford Edge were going to do a test fit of part number TH9025 from Thule, the Apex 4 Bicycle Rack. Now were doing our test fit in a 2-inch receiver hitch. This bike rack will also work with 1-1/4-inch receiver hitch both class I and class II. However, with class I receiver hitches you are only limited to two bikes. Alright, we'll start off our test fit by installing the bike rack into the hitch. We'll make sure that the integrated hitch pin engages into the hitch pin hole.



Swagman XTC2 Wheel Mount Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2012 Ford Edge

All right, today on this 2012 Ford Edge, we're going to do a test fit of part number S64670 from Swagman. This is XTC-2 bicycle rack. A few things to know about this bike rack that it will work of 1-1/4" receiver hitches both class 1 and class 2 and will also work with a 2" receiver hitch with the provided spacer and we're using this on a 2" receiver hitch today. We'll start off by installing the bike rack into the hitch and tighten down the anti-rattle bolt then installing the safety pin on the other side. Now we'll go ahead and get a few clearence measurements. Clearance between the bike rack and the bumper is about 5 inches.



Softride Dura Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2012 Ford Edge

Alright, today, on this 2012 Ford Edge, we're going to do a test fit of a Softride Bicycle Rack. This is a Dura Parallelogram Bike Rack, part number SR26247. One note about this bicycle rack is that this is designed for 2-inch receiver hitches only and then the bicycle rack does have two sets of hitch pinholes to allow you to adjust the depth of how far the bike rack goes into the hitch to give you different amounts of clearance. In this case, were going to be using the hole that gives the most amount of clearance. We'll start off our test fit by installing the bike rack into the hitch. We'll tighten down the anti-rattle bolt and then we'll go ahead and install the lock.

  • I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite and he said that the ground effects/rear fascia on a 2012 Ford Edge Sport prevent hitch # 75709 from fitting properly. I do have a trailer hitch that fits the sport model. It does require some fascia trimming but not any extra trimming other than what is specified in the instructions. Take a look at the CURT Trailer Hitch # C13067. I confirmed with CURT that it will fit the 2012 sport model. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you
