Westin Sure Grip Running Boards Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Today, on our 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, we'll be installing the Westin Sure-Grip running boards, part number 27-6620 in conjunction with the custom installation kit, part number 27-1835. To begin our install, we'll first go ahead and identify our attachment points. For each attachment point we'll be using pre-drilled holes in the frame or subframe of the vehicle. First, we'll go ahead and lay out our hardware and identify the four brackets. We'll have two on each side, one on the front and one on the rear. For each side both forward brackets are similar. Once we identify the correct bracket, we'll go ahead and mark them with a yellow paint stick. The rear brackets for each side, although they'll mount the same, the configurations are slightly different. Starting with the driver's side forward bracket, to secure it to the vehicle, we'll be installing two T-bolts into the frame. Once we have the T-bolts in place, we'll go ahead and put the bracket up against the bottom of the frame and then secure it with a flat washer, split lock washer and nut. Next, we'll go ahead and install the hardware for the rear bracket.

Westin Sure Grip Running Board LED Light Kit Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Today on our 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, we'll be adding the Westin LED light kit, part number 27-6000. Before I mount the lights, I'm going to go ahead and wrap up the wires with some black electrical tape, this will help bundle the wires and clean up our install look while also assisting and protecting them over time. Now with the wires taped up, then remove the two-way adhesive on the back of the light and firmly secure it into position. Note this is a one time use and cannot be reattached. Now with our lights mounted we'll need to take the wiring harness and start routing our wires. Keep in mind when routing your wires, stay away from any moving components such as the steering suspension or excessive heat such as the exhaust.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Today on our 2012 Chevy Traverse, we'll be installing the Curt T Connector Wiring Kit, part number C56027. To begin with, we'll need to raise the rear hatch of the vehicle. Then we're going to go ahead an remove both of the taillight assemblies. To do this, there are 2 small plastic tabs that we'll need to remove from each side. They will not be completely removed, as they are connected by a small plastic tether, which you'll need to lift them out of the way so you can remove the one screw that is in each hole. Once you have the screws removed and you pull the light assembly off the vehicle, you need to remove the wiring harness from the back of the light. To do this, you'll squeeze the tab and pull the wiring harness free.

The 2 inch receiver is going to have a higher capacity and be compatible with more accessories compared to lower class hitches. For this reason, I would not recommend using the Prorack bike racks on your Traverse. As you mentioned, there are...

  • On the Toyota if it is rear wheel drive or you have the A55 or A55F transmission then the rear line is the return line. If it is a front wheel drive model (excluding the A55 or A55F) then the bottom line is the return line. On the Chevy there are many possible options depending on which transmission you have: TH125/125C (3T40) = Top TH180 = Rear TH200/200-4R = Bottom TH325/325-4L = Top TH350/TH350C = Top TH400/3L80/3L80H = Top 440-T4 (4T60)/ 4T60E = Horizontal Case Fitting 700-R4...

  • Recommendation for Carrying Bikes and Towing a Boat at the Same Time with a 2012 Chevy Traverse
  • I do not recommend using an extender because doing so will cut the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. A longer dual purpose ball mount is not available. What I recommend is a different type of bike rack. You could use a towing bike rack like # S64955 and a super extra long ball mount # 80232. With this set up, from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rack should measure 7-7/8 inches, which should clear the back of your 2012 Chevy Traverse.

  • Compatible Roof Rack Towers for a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse
  • I spoke with my contact at Yakima and we definitely have a solution for you. He said the Yakima RailGrab Towers, part # Y00138, will not work with your 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. Instead, you will want to use the Yakima Q Towers Roof Rack Feet, part # Y00124, with Q132 Q Clips, part # Y00732. The Q Tower roof rack feet do not use the factory rails installed on your vehicle, but mount directly to the vehicle just above the doors. The roof rack feet are compatible with round Yakima bars and...

  • Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendations for a 2011 Chevy HHR
  • From what I found, the Chevy HHR was in production for the 2005 to 2011 model years and I cannot find any information on a 2012. I have included a link to the available trailer hitches for a 2011 HHR for you. All of the hitches available for a 2011 HHR are Class I hitches that have a 1-1/4 inch receiver. If you are going to use the hitch just for hitch mount accessories like a cargo carrier, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite hitch # 24756. This hitch does not require the use of a...
