Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Ford Flex - Curt
Today on our 2009 Ford Flex, well be installing the Curt Trailer Hitch, part number C13110. Now before we begin our installation, here are a few measurements to help you when selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost part of the bumper measures 4 inches and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 13 inches. Now lets go ahead with our install. To begin our installation, well need to lower the exhaust by removing these three isolators. One here behind the muffler, one here just in front of the rear axle and one here about the middle of the vehicle.
Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Ford Flex - Hidden Hitch
Today, on a 2009 Ford Flex, we are going to install part number 87571 from Hidden Hitch. Next well use some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From top of receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 12-3/4 inches and from the center of your hitch pin hole to the outside edge of your bumper is going to be 4 inches. Now I will go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First step is to go ahead and lower exhaust and get it out of our way. To lower the exhaust, remove these bolts here, holding exhaust up that will also serve as our attachment point.

Alright, today on this 2009 Ford Flex, were going to install part number 118472 from Tow-Ready. First well do is well go ahead and open the back hatch and remove the two taillights. When we unbolt the taillights, well go ahead and disconnect the wire harness. Push on this tab right here and take it apart. Alright, so well repeat the same process on the passenger side. Now you can go ahead and start installing the wire harness.

Now we'll go ahead start off our test fit by installing the bike rack into the hitch, then we'll tighten down the anti-rattle bolt, then we'll install the safety clip on the other side. All right, with the bike rack installed, let's go ahead and get some clearance measurements. At its closest point from the bike rack to the bumper, we're looking at four and a half inches. Ground clearance looks like 14 1/2 inches.

Today on this 2009 Ford Flex, we're going to do a test fit of part number Y02103 from Yakima; this is a Front loader Bike Carrier. A few notes about this bicycle rack is that it does not require you to remove the front wheel on the bike if it's round, square, and factory crossbars. On this particular vehicle we'll be using the Yakima Roof Rack System. The adjustable arm provides a sure fit for any size wheels. Now we're going to start off our test fit with the bike rack already assembled according to the instructions, so we just got to put it on the roof rack. We'll line it at the front clamp with the front crossbar, and then we'll loosely install it and then go to the back clamp and loosely install it onto the roof rack for the second crossbar.

All right today, on this 2009 Ford Flex, we're going to do a test fit of part number Y02098 from Yakima, this is a Forklift Bicycle Rack. A few notes about this bicycle rack that it will work with round crossbars, and square crossbars and most factory crossbars. Now with this particular vehicle, we will be working with the Yakima Roof Rack System. To start off our test fit, our bicycle rack were already assembled according to the instructions, so we just kind of put it on the roof rack. We'll start off by lining the front clamp up with the front crossbar, and then we'll go ahead and tighten it down but loose enough where you can still move it around and will go on to the back clamp in protecting the place as well. Then we'll go ahead and move the bike rack to the position that we want, then we'll go ahead and tighten down both clamps.

Today on this 2009 Ford Flex, we are going to do a test fit of the Yakima Roof System. We are going to be using the Yakima Q Towers, part number Y00124, and we are going to be using the cross bars part number Y00409, and the Yakima Q clips and pads, part number Q131. Okay with our bars setup already, I am going to go ahead and open the front doors so that we can go ahead and install the front bar. When we sit the bar onto the vehicle, were going to set it so that it will be 20 inches from the front edge of the windshield. Measuring from the front edge where the sheet metal and windshield meet for the front of my Q tower, I want it to be 20 inches. Once I got my bar positioned on the vehicle, I am going to go ahead and check to make sure Im even side to side.
Thule Traverse Roof Rack Installation - 2009 Ford Flex
Today on this 2009 Ford Flex we are going to install a Thule Roof-Rack System on a naked roof. We will be using the Thule Foot Pack part number TH480, the Thule Square Load Bars part number THLB58, and the Thule Fit Kit THKIT1518. Our first step is to go ahead and install our front load bar. We have already pre-assembled our load bars for this test fit, so to get started we are going to open the front doors. Now we are ready to install the front load bar. The bar is going to sit 20-7/8 inches from the edge of where the windshield meets the sheet metal to the front of the foot pack.

Okay this bike rack will fit 2 inch receivers only, and that is what we are using on our vehicle. We will start off by installing the bike rack into the hitch, and then adding the anti-rattle and lock. Now Thule does provide a tool to tighten down the bolt however a inch wrench will work just as well. Next well give you a measurement that will give you an idea of clearance between the bike rack and the vehicle, and the bike rack and the ground. As closest point the bike rack will be about 2 inches from the bumper, and the ground clearance will be 10-3/8 inches to the ground.

This bike rack will fit 1-1/4 inch trailer hitches class one and class two. Well be using it on a class three receiver hitch with the included bushing. Alright well go ahead and install it into the hitch, install the anti-rattle bolt, and then the lock on the other side. Now Thule does supply a tool to tighten down the bolt, however a inch wrench will work just as well. Alright now we will give you a couple measurements that will give you an idea of clearance between the bicycle rack and the vehicle, and the bicycle rack and the ground.
Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Ford Flex
Today on this 2009 Ford Flex we are going to be installing Draw Tite Hitch part number 75679. Before we get started with our installation, we are going to go ahead and give you a couple of the final install dimensions which is going to help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the tube receiver opening to the ground is going to measure 12-3/4 inches, and from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure approximately 4 inches. And now we will go ahead and move on to our installation. Okay we are starting off our installation up underneath the vehicle, and the first thing we are going to do is go ahead and lower down the muffler to give us a little bit more working room. To do that if you look here at the end of the frame rail you can see that weve got two bolts into the frame that are holding the rear most muffler bracket onto the frame.
