Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2004 Toyota RAV4

Today, on this 2004 Toyota Rav4, we're going to be installing the Tow Ready wiring harness 118389.The first step is to open the back door and gain access to the rear of the vehicle. There is a panel right here on the driver's side that needs to be removed and we'll be removing the interior trim panel to access the tail light wiring. On the inside of the cargo compartment here, there's a little door you take off and you can see the tail light wiring right inside there and once you see the tail light wiring there's a little clip that you have to pop off to be able get it out and make your connections. Next, we'll go ahead and disassemble the panels on the passenger's side. Now we're ready to go ahead and install our wiring harness starting on the passenger's side.First thing to do is disconnect the wires from the vehicle tail light by pushing in the pad and pulling out. And on the passenger's side we'll be connecting the green and red wires in line with that gray and yellow light connector.

2004 Toyota RAV4 Questions and Answers

  • Bike Racks for 2004 Toyota Rav4 That Allows Cargo Area Access
  • Due to the lack of space between the bottom of the rear door and the top of the receiver hitch, the swinging bike racks are not a good option for your RAV4. Although the rack is capable of swinging, the foot of the rack will prevent the door from being opened for more than a few inches. To carry 2 or 3 bikes, a spare tire mounted rack would be your best option, although opening the rear door while the bikes are attached to the rack is not recommended due to the fact that the additional weight

  • Will the Sportrack J-Stacker Kayak Carrier work on Factory Cross Bars of a 2004 Toyota Rav4
  • If you ordered 2 SportRack J-Stacker Kayak Carriers # ABR511 like you referenced you would be able to carry two kayaks as long as the weight capacity of your roof is not exceeded. You should have enough clearance to tighten the thumbscrews to your roof rack as this rack is confirmed to fit your vehicle. You will need to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine what that capacity is. This rack is designed to fit most factory crossbars as long as the diameter of the cross bar is not

  • Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Recommendations for a 2004 Toyota RAV4 with a 2 Inch Hitch
  • If you are looking for a carrier that is 32 x 48, then the options for one with the same rails as the Gear Cage are limited to it only. I think you might like the Rola 23 x 56 carrier, # 59502. It has similar rails and it measures 12-7/8 inches from the hitch pin hole center to the nearest edge of the carrier. Plus, you can add lights, like # 20174. You would need trailer wiring on the RAV4 though to make the lights work, # 118389. We also have the 24 x 60 carrier, # 63153 has similar rails a

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2004 Toyota RAV4
  • The first thing you will want to do is measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your 2004 Toyota RAV4 out to the distance required to clear the spare tire. On a trailer hitch we installed on the same generation RAV4 and the measurement was approximately 10 inches. On the Gear Cage, # 5800200, it measures 5-1/2 inches from hitch pin hole center to the nearest edge of the carrier. Based on the differences this carrier is not the best fit for your RAV4. If you have a 2 inch trailer hi

  • Will the SportRack EZ 2 Bike Rack Part A30901 Clear Spare Tire on 2004 Rav4
  • To determine if the SportRack Super EZ Bike Rack will work with your RAV4, you will need to measure for the necessary clearance. Measure from the hitch pin hole in the receiver to the furthest rearward portion of the spare tire. The easiest way to do this is to get a straight piece of lumber and place it flush against the rear of the spare tire, and measure rearward from the hitch pin hole until you reach the piece of lumber. This measurement will represent the minimum clearance required. The

  • Ground or No Ground for Installing a 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2004 Toyota Rav4
  • You are correct the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, item # 118389, has a ground wire that is attached to a ground location behind the vehicle tail light and the Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, item # 33465, does not have an extra ground wire. Both harnesses will work properly on your vehicle. I would select the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, item # 118389, because of the extra ground protection it offers. If there is a short circuit situation on the trailer the Tow Ready harness

  • Yes, you would be able to use the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch, item # 75125, to haul 2 bikes with your 2004 Toyota Rav4. If your Yakima bike rack is designed for a 1-1/4 inch, and you do not have an adapter for it to work in a 2 inch receiver opening, you can use the Brophy Trailer Hitch Adapter 2 inch to 1-1/4 inch, item # to carry the bike rack in the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch, item # 75125. If your Yakima rack is a trunk mounted rack then it will not wor

  • Will the Thule Spare Me TH963PRO fit a 2004 Toyota Rav4
  • It might depend on how much earlier the answer came from the Rep. Not too long ago Thule re-designed the Spare Me rack. Formerly it was part TH963, after the re-design it became part TH963PRO. There were fit issues with certain Rav4 models that were to be fixed. It is also possible that the Rep was not aware of the changes. I checked with both the paper copy of the Thule Fit Guide as well as the guide on their site. The TH963PRO Spare Me will fit your 2004 Toyota Rav4. I spoke with one of my

  • Will The Thule Quest Roof Mounted Cargo Bag TH846 Fit my 2004 Toyota Rav4
  • The Thule Quest Roof Mounted Cargo Bag, part # TH846, measures 40 inches long, 32 inches wide and 18 inches tall. Measure the cross bars on your roof rack and make sure there are at least 40 inches apart. According to the Thule fit guide, it should fit your factory rack just fine. I would go ahead and double check by measuring just to be sure.

  • SportRack Aero XL Roof Cargo Box Part # A90275 for 2004 Toyota RAV4
  • Does your RAV4 have the factory roof rack with crossbars? If so, the SportRack Aero XL Cargo Box would be a fine choice given its large capacity at a reasonable price. The SportRack Explorer, part # A90095 would also be a good choice, although it is not as aerodynamic. These boxes fit vehicles with cross bars up to 4 inches wide. If your RAV4 does not have the factory rack but just the rails that run from front to rear, you will need to install cross bars. Thule offers a Rapid Aero foot pack,

  • How to Calculate Tongue Weight Capacity Reduction When Using A Hitch Extender On Toyota Rav 4
  • A hitch extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch and the vehicle by 50 percent. You must abide by the capacities of the lowest rated component. For example if the tongue weight capacity of the hitch is 200 pounds, but the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle is 150 pounds, you must abide by 150. If you use a hitch extension, then your new tongue weight capacity is 75 pounds. Since a hitch is bolted to the vehicle and essentially becomes part of the vehicle, it does not de

  • You plug the corresponding wires on the TL29BK kit into the upper (larger) holes on the back of the taillights. There are two holes for tail/brake lights and running lights. These holes are labeled. The wires should be stripped prior to insertion. The lower (smaller) set of holes are there to allow removal of the wires if need be. You would stick a small round object into the lower hole and press, releasing the wire. After inserting the wires they should be routed along the indention in th
