Next, we'll go ahead and give you some measurements to help you in selecting some accessories such as the ball mount, bicycle rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the edge of the bumper is about 2 inches. On top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 21 inches.

Today, on our 2011 Dodge Ram 1500, we are going to install part number VG-10-100. This is a Stromberg-Carlson fifth wheel tailgate. To start of our install, we need to go ahead and remove the existing tailgate. The tailgate comes with bushings we will install on the tailgate on the driver side on that pin and then on the passenger side, the bushing will install over here. We will go ahead and start installing our tailgate, we will slide it onto the bushing on the driver side. Keeping the tailgate tilted, we will go ahead and install it on the passenger side.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2011 Dodge Ram

Today on our 2011 Dodge Ram well be installing the Pollak fifth wheel and goose neck connector wiring harness part #: PK11932. First well need to locate a suitable spot for installing the connector in the truck bed. Then Ill take a pilot bit and run it through the bed and double check my location. Were going to go ahead and take a quarter inch bit which will be the same size as my pilot bit for my hole saw and drill out the hole. Now with my hole drilled out well go ahead and take the hole saw and make it large enough for the connector to fit through. With the large hole drilled out we can now take the wiring harness and feed it from underneath through the hole.

Now before we get started weve already gone ahead and removed the spare tire, both rear wheels and the rear half of the exhaust. All this will just make it easier to install our goose neck hitch. To start the installation of our hitch well first need to mark out and drill a pilot hole where our goose neck will come up through the bed of the truck. Following the manufacturers instructions and measurements well mark the length and the center point of our bed and drill a small pilot hole. With our small pilot hole made Ill now go ahead and take a quarter inch bit which is the same size as the bit on my hole saw and make it a little larger.

• Finding the factory connector on a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 can be tricky. Sometimes the harness is hidden behind other wiring or components and you have to feel around and fish it out. The harness should be located underneath the dash and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.
