2010 Subaru Forester Questions and Answers

  • Can Weight Distribution be Used with a Class II Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Subaru Forester
  • I do have a solution for you but first weight distribution cannot be used with a Class II trailer hitch. Class II trailer hitches are not built for or tested for use with weight distribution so manufacturers do not make any systems that will fit a Class II trailer hitch. I do have a couple of recommendations that might work for you. First, if you can lower the trailers gross weight, that will lower the tongue weight. Or if you can move any weight on the trailer further back, that will also lo

  • What Size Hitch Pin is Required for Curt Class III 2-Inch Hitch # 13147 on 2010 Subaru Forester
  • The Curt Class III 2-Inch Hitch, part # 13147, for your 2010 Subaru Forester, will use a hitch pin size of 5/8-inch. It will use the Pin and Clip, part # PC3. If you need a ball mount for the # 13147 hitch it will use the Draw-Tite Ball Mount, part # 2923. The Class I and Class II hitches that have a 1-1/4 inch hitch opening will use a hitch pin size of 1/2-inch, and the Class III and higher hitches with the 2-inch hitch openings use a hitch pin size of 5/8-inch.

  • Why is a Stabilizer Strap Required for Bike Racks on a Curt Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Subaru Forester
  • Curt requires the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, on any non-trailer load because they feel it offers better support and added relief from stress. Because they require it, not using a strap would void the hitch warranty. Hidden Hitch, Draw-Tite, and Reese do not have this requirement but you can use the strap if you wanted to, it would not hurt anything on the hitch. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a video showing a typical installation of the Hidden Hitch

  • Yakima does list the Yakima KingJoe Pro 2 Bike Rack, part # Y02624, as a fit on a 2010 Subaru Forester, but makes no mention of a fit with a spoiler. Most trunk bike rack manufacturers do not test fit the trunk bike racks on vehicles with factory spoilers, so they can not verify that the rack will fit correctly. The installation directions on the Yakima bike rack say to place the top clips in the gap at the front edge of the top of the hatch. I would check your vehicle and determine if the to

  • Anti-Rattle Device Recommendation for 2 Inch Trailer Hitches
  • I do have a couple of possible options for you that will both fit the Curt trailer hitch # 13147 and the ball mount # 2923. First, if you do not need to have a lock we have anti-rattle device # 63145-1. It is designed for 2 inch hitch accessories that have a hollow shank. This device however is not recommended when towing a trailer. If a lock is desired, then take a look at # SR25219 from Softride. This works in much the same way as the above device except that it can be locked. I have includ

  • Recommended Hitch and 2-Bike Rack for 2010 Subaru Forester
  • When the choice between a Class II and Class III is available, I would always recommend a Class III. A Class III will have a much better selection of available accessories, as well as a higher towing capacity (your actual towing capacity may be limited by the towing capacity of the vehicle). I would recommend the Hidden Hitch Class III, part # 87493. A platform-type bike rack would be best to ensure that the bikes remain motionless during transport. Since the trailer has an aluminum frame, you will want to ground the lights to the main ground at the trailer connector even if you have steel bolts. Aluminum does not provide the best electrical ground to complete a circuit.
