As you can see we have already removed the spare tire just to get it out of the way because we are going to need to access up underneath here. Next we are going to have to remove the heat shield. We are going to take off the bolts located here and here. There should be two at the top of the frame as well. Now we are going to remove our exhaust bracket at this location here. If you can see, there is an exhaust bracket back here towards the front of the vehicle we are going have to remove that one too by removing the two bolts that are holding up the exhaust bracket from the cross member. 00:45

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Today on this 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty we will be installing the Prodigy brake controller and adapter plug, part number 90185-3034-P. We are inside the cab of the truck and the first thing we want to do is locate the port we are going to be plugging our adapter into. On these newer F250s they have the option of having the factory installed brake controller in the dash area. Since this does not have one, the plug is actually mounted on the back side of this knockout here. :37

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty

Today we are going to be installing brake controller part number 5500 from Draw-Tite on a 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty. Inside the cab here, the first thing you want to do is go ahead and locate the factory-installed brake control port that the Super Duty has. If your vehicle does not come with the in-dash brake controller, which is typically in this location here, the plug will actually be in a holder, mounted on the back side of this piece right here.

Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Rail Kit Installation - 2008 Ford Super Duty Pickup

Today we are going to install part numbers 9460 and 4430. This is a Hide-a-Goose install kit for a 2008 Ford Super Duty pickup. This is a diesel version with a 6-foot bed. Next we are going to create some working room beneath the vehicle. We are going to take off this heat shield temporarily, and we are going to lower our exhaust system, too. That way we will have plenty of room to work with to put the head assembly between the two rails. This is the second exhaust bracket we need to lower, too. Once you have the secondary one down you can go ahead and actually pull the exhaust down a little bit out of the way to give you some more working room. Next, go ahead and loosen up the bed on this truck. It gives us a little bit easier working space underneath the vehicle. And once we get all the components installed underneath we can set the bed back in. We are just going to loosen the bed up, put some blocks in it, and maybe raise it 1-1/2 inches or so. Next, we will go ahead and mark off the bed so we know where to drill the hole. What you want to do is find the center rib and measure back on the bed, per the instructions. On our 6-foot bed, in this particular case, it is 47-7/8 inches. So from the back edge of the bed itself you want to mark off 47-7/8 inches and then you want to center it in between the fender wells. It is kind of handy to use these edges of the bed itself. We are looking at 24-1/2 to the center. And what we will do next is go ahead and punch our mark, just enough so we can see a dimple on the bottom side of the pickup, because we will save drilling the hole for one of the last things we need to do. We just loosened the bed and we have got it propped up with these blocks right here. And on the 6-foot bed, it looks like it is a little bit tail heavy, so we have got plenty of space up in front.

Fifth Wheel Hitch Installation - 2008 Ford F250

We begin the installation of our fifth wheel trailer hitch by lowering the spare tire on our 2008 Ford 250 Super Duty. Next, we want to loosen the bed bolts to make it easier to install the rails for our fifth wheel hitch. Now we can slide the first rail over the frame and under the truck bed. With first rail in place towards the rear of the truck, we can then slide the second rail into place. Once we have the rails in place across the truck, we insert the bolts to level out the mounting brackets. After the rails are in place and bolts tightened, we retighten the bed bolts to make sure there will be no shifting. This ensures that all of the holes we are going to drill will align properly. Now we mark the holes where we need to drill through the side of the frame at the front and rear of the frame brackets. Before drilling your holes, check the inside of the frame rail on each side of the truck to make sure it is clear of any wiring or lines that run from the front to the back of the truck.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for a 2008 Ford F-250 Towing a 2012 Keystone Cougar
  • The first thing you are going to need in your 2008 Ford F-250 is an installation kit. There are different installation kits available. You could use a universal kit like # RP30035. Universal kits require more drilling and take longer to install. What I recommend is a custom kit like # RP50082-58. Custom kits come with custom fit brackets to fit the specific frame design on your truck. This means less drilling is required and installation takes about half the time compared to a universal kit.

  • Should Load Resistors be Grounded to the Vehicle Frame or an Existing Ground Wire
  • The ideal location to ground anything would be to the metal frame of the vehicle in the nearest corrosion free bare metal surface. However, if there is a ground wire near by you could try it out and see if it offers a sufficient ground. If you still get hyper flashing then a better ground location could be needed. I have included a link to the installation details for the load resistor # P230004A for you. These resistors are also available in a pair, # P230004A-2.
