Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Today on this 2006 Toyota Tacoma we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118496. First go ahead and lower the tailgate. Starting over here on the driver side, if you look on the inboard side of the bed, you can see we have a screw at the top and a screw here at the bottom. We need to go ahead and remove those to remove the taillight. With those two screws removed, we just want to take and kind of gently rock the taillight assembly back and forth. With the taillight pulled off, if you look on the backside here, you can see the main connector and that is the connector we are going to separate and plug our harness inline to. If you look towards the midline of the connector, you can see there is a little push button right there. If we press that in and pull away, we can separate the two pieces. I am just going to go ahead and set the taillight off to the side for a second. 0:50

2006 Toyota Tacoma Questions and Answers

  • Turn Signals on Trailer Do Not Work When Towed By a 2006 Toyota Tacoma
  • The first step that I would take to troubleshoot this issue is to test the 4-way connector on your 2006 Tacoma for proper function. This will tell us if the issue is on your Tacoma or on the trailer. First, make sure the new wiring harness is properly grounded. It should be connected to a clean, bare metal surface on the vehicle frame or to the negative terminal of the battery. If the ground connection looks fine, you will want to use a circuit tester like part # 40376 to test each pin on th

  • Cargo Control In-Bed Cargo Bar for a 2006 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner
  • First for the most stable installation of the cargo stabilizer # HE4016-4017 having the ends on the metal of the bed is ideal. If it is a spray-in bed liner then that is fine as well. Drop in liners can move around and it is not the best application for this unit. Since the minimum width is 59 inches, a bed that is 57 inches is too narrow for the unit to fit. What you need is a slightly smaller one like # 08908. The minimum width on it is 40 inches. I have linked a video review for you.

  • Using a Weight Distribution System to Level a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and Cargo Trailer
  • The best way to reduce sag at the rear of a vehicle when towing a trailer is to use weight distribution. I recommend a system that has built-in dual cam sway control to prevent trailer sway before it starts. For the right sized system, you will need to know the tongue weight and gross trailer weight of the trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow. For example, if the tongue weight of the trailer is 400 pounds, you would need a system with a 200 to 600 pound tongue weight capacity. You
