Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2004 Toyota Highlander

Today we are working on a 2004 Toyota Highlander. Were going to install a Tow Ready T-One connector part number 118248. Our first step is to access the rear cargo area of the vehicle. Were going to open up the storage compartment with the spare tire tool tray, and the drivers side cargo tray. We have a push pin plastic fastener on each side that will have to be removed, and go ahead and set it out of our way. Now I am going to go ahead and remove the rear threshold so I can get the drivers side cargo tray out.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Toyota Highlander

Today were working on a 2004 Toyota Highlander. Were going to install a Curt Hitch part number C13530. Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch such as a draw bar, a bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the center of the pin hitch hole to the outer most of the bumper is 2-1/2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 14-3/4 inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation.

2004 Toyota Highlander Questions and Answers

  • No Power to ETBC7, 7-Way Trailer Connector After Installation
  • In order for the # ETBC7 to work properly you have to make sure that it is grounded to the vehicle frame at a place that is clean and free of corrosion. The light functions should all work if you just have the 4-Way plugged into the ETBC7 and it is properly grounded. Then when you hardwire in the black wire for 12 volt power, blue wire from a brake controller, and purple wire for reverse lights, those will all start working. but nothing will work or work properly unless the white wire is grounde

  • How to Identify the Correct Brake Switch Wire for a Brake Controller on a 2004 Toyota Highlander
  • Unfortunately Toyota does not use the same color wire for the brake light switch on their vehicles. The best way to determine which wire is the correct wire is to use a circuit tester like part # 40376 and test for the wire that only gets hot when the brake pedal is pressed. I have attached a video of our technician testing for the correct brake switch wire for you to reference. Begin at the 6 minute and 25 second mark. The vehicle in the video is different than yours, but this should give y

  • Thule Raceway Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2004 Toyota Highlander
  • I believe the best trunk mounted rack option for your 2004 Toyota Highlander would be the Thule Raceway Bike Carrier # TH9001. This rack is one of the easiest to install, most secure due to the rubber coated steel cables and one of the most lightweight racks we offer. Check out the review video and installation instructions I attached for this rack for you to check out. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without a horizontal top tube you might also be interested

  • Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for 3 Bikes and a 2004 Toyota Highlander
  • You can carry up to 3 bikes on your 2004 Toyota Highlander using a trunk mount bike rack. I have included a link to all of the trunk mount racks that will fit your vehicle. Out of the options, I recommend the Thule Raceway 3, # TH9002. The Raceway 3 is the easiest and fastest bike rack to install or remove that I have used. It uses 4 retractable cables, rather than 6 straps, to secure the rack to the vehicle which is why it is so easy to install and leaves a clean looking installation with no

  • Will the SportRack Explorer Cargo Box Fit on a 2004 Toyota Highlander With Factory Roof Rack
  • The SportRack Explorer Cargo Box, # A90095, is designed to fit most factory roof racks with crossbars. As long as you have a minimum crossbar spread of 24 inches and a maximum crossbar diameter of 4 inches on your 2004 Toyota Highlander, then this cargo box will fit. You may be able to adjust your crossbars if needed to get the correct spacing. You can verify the spread of your crossbars by measuring from the center of one crossbar to the center of the other crossbar. This cargo box uses a 4

  • Finding Correct Brake Stoplight Switch Circuit to Install Brake Controller on 2004 Toyota Highlander
  • I do not have any specific information about the color of the wire you are looking for, but I can describe how to find it. Use a circuit tester like part # 40376, and probe each wire coming off of the brake stoplight switch. As you probe each wire, press the brake pedal. Once you find the circuit that only shows current when the brake pedal is pushed, tap the red controller wire into it.

  • Troubleshooting Brake Light/Turn Signals not Working on a 2004 Toyota Highlander
  • The first thing I would check would be the Tow Ready Wiring Harness # 118413 for voltage on the turn signal and brake circuits. I attached a video that shows how this is done. If you find that your 4-way is not functioning correctly I would go over the installation instructions I attached and make sure all of the connectors are making secure connections. You will also want to make sure the ground strap of this unit is making a good connection. Once you have checked the connections you wil

  • Will Rage Powersports Hitch Cargo Carrier,# SC500 Fit a 2004 Toyota Highlander and 2010 GMC Sierra
  • First, in order to install the Rage Powersports Hitch Cargo Carrier, # SC500, both the 2004 Toyota Highlander and the 2010 GMC Sierra would need to be equipped with a 2 inch trailer hitch. You will then need to measure on each vehicle the distance between the center of the hitch pin hole and the distance required to clear the rear bumper. If that distance is less than 15-1/2 inches, the carrier will fit when folded down. If that distance is less than 6-1/2 inches, the carrier will fit when f

  • How to Clean Rusty Weld Nuts for Trailer Hitch Installation on a 2004 Toyota Highlander
  • Before using a tap to clean the threads, I recommend taking a different approach first to clean them out. Using some WD-40, a wire brush or battery terminal brush like # DW00254, and a little elbow grease, you should be able to clean out the threads without potentially damaging the threads on your 2004 Toyota Highlander. I have included links to an FAQ article and a video showing the process. There should be 6 bolt holes with weld nuts, 3 on each frame rail. The bolts that fit them are M10 -

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for 2004 Toyota Highlander with Factory Tow Package
  • Since it sounds as if your Highlander is equipped with the tow package, your best bet would be to use the harness designed to be used in vehicles with the tow package, part # 118248. This harness would utilize the factory connector located in the cargo area as shown in the instructions. You could certainly use either the # 118413 or 33425. Each of these harnesses install by plugging inline to the existing wiring behind the tail light assemblies, which would be more complex and time consuming tha

  • General Towing Information for a 2004 Toyota Highlander V6
  • A VIN is not required, just the year, make and model of a vehicle. Sometimes certain configurations need to be stated such as Hybrid engine, 4WD or sport packages. On some vehicles, spare tires need to be removed. The Valley hitch, part # V81310 does not require removal of the spare tire and yes it can still be accessed. The trailer wiring harness for tow package 2004 Highlanders is part # 118248. The port for the tow package vehicles is located behind the driver side cargo access panel an

  • Highland SportWing 2 Bike Rack, Part # 5801200 for Womens Bikes
  • I would recommend using a wheel mount bike rack, such as the SportRack Two Bike Wheel Mount Bike Rack, part # A30901. This rack utilizes a padded hook that would secure the frame of your bike, and is one of our most popular bike carriers. The hoops that hold the bike tires are adjustable for bikes with a wheelbase up to 58 inches. Another option would be the Highland SportWing 2 Bike Rack, part # 5801200. This rack holds the bikes by the top of the wheels, and works great with womens bikes si

  • Towing a RV Travel Trailer with a 2004 Toyota Highlander
  • I would recommend hooking up all your equipment (hitch, drawbar, and trailer) and take a test drive. This will help you determine if you need to add a weight distribution system or sway control system or if your vehicle will handle the trailer fine without additional support. I would recommend checking into the sway control systems prior to a weight distribution. A weight distribution system can help with sway but are normally used to increase the towing weight. Here is a link to our Sway Contro
