Thule Traverse Roof Rack Installation - 2003 GMC Sierra

Today we are going to review part number TH480 from Thule. This is Thules traverse foot pack. And we will also be using fit kit part number THKIT1522. And the cross bars we will be using on this demonstration will be THLB58. Those are sold separately. And we will be taking these parts and will be installing these on a 2003 GMC Sierra extended cab pickup truck. We have our parts here laid out with just one end of the bar so you will not get confused. We will flip the whole assembly over so you can see it easier. We are going to start off with our tower here. To slide it onto the bar, what we are going to have to do is loosen this clamp up. So we pull back on this latch right here. Then we can slide our bar in. We will just leave that loose for now. We are going to pop on our little cap. We are going to need to open up this door here. It just snaps open. And while we are here, we will use this tool to tighten down this screw which actually will clamp it down to the car. Then next we will go ahead and install the fit kit itself. 1:00

2003 GMC Sierra Questions and Answers

  • Will the K-Source Custom Extendable Towing Mirrors Heat/Electric work on 2003 GMC Sierra w/o Heat
  • Yes, the K-Source Custom Extendable Towing Mirrors w/ Turn Signals # KS62075-76G that you referenced will still install on your 2003 GMC Sierra that has electric mirrors without heat, but since your vehicle is not equipped for the heat function the mirrors would not heat. Basically these mirrors will function exactly like your factory mirrors.

  • Will the Universal Sidewinder Wedge Work on a Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
  • In most cases, the universal wedge that comes with the Sidewinder will work. For a Reese 16k hitch like # RP30051, the universal wedge is all you will need. Keep in mind that the hitch will need to always remain locked in the towing position and never slid forward with the Sidewinder installed. Doing so would create problems with too much stress on the system, move the trailer weight too far behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle, and could interfere with the truck tailgate.

  • Replacement Drivers Side Mirror For 2003 GMC Sierra 2500
  • We do have a drivers side mirror for your 2003 GMC Sierra, but the CIPA Replacement Mirror # CM27352 you referenced is not a compatible fit. The most recent GMC Sierra the # CM27352 will fit is the 2002 model. For your vehicle, I recommend the CIPA Replacement Mirror # CM27376, a direct replacement for your Sierras mirror OE # 15048182. The installation is pretty easy as it bolts to existing mounting holes using existing hardware and it comes with a 1-year warranty.

  • Diagnosing Malfunctioning Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller on 2003 GMC Sierra
  • It is pretty unlikely that the factory connection point under the dash where the controller plugs in has been pinned incorrectly. I would begin by checking under the hood to ensure that the final brake controller connections were made at the power distribution box on the inside of the drivers side fender. Depending on how the vehicle was equipped, in may cases this connection was not made on the assembly line. As you can see in the provided photo, look for a red wire with a ring terminal on

  • Parts Needed to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2003 GMC Sierra 6-1/2 ft Bed
  • Since you have a 6-1/2 foot bed you are going to need a sliding hitch like the Curt E5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller # 16516 that you referenced. For the correct installation kit to install this hitch in the bed of your 2003 GMC Sierra you will need a Curt Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16418-104. Now for wiring to allow you to install a trailer 7-way in the bed of your truck as well you would want a Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness # 20110. I attached an installati

  • Can a Fixed Pro Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Change to a Slider for a 2003 GMC Sierra Short Bed
  • Yes, you can change over your 15K Pro Series 5th wheel hitch from a fixed to a slider. You will need to use the Pro Series Fifth Wheel Slider w/ Rollers, # RP30092. I have linked a video and instructions for you. This slider will provide 10 inches of travel. To make sure the slider will provide enough clearance for you to safely make tight turns without hitting the trailer and truck cab together, there is a simple formula you can use. Measure from the center of the hitch jaws where the kin

  • Compatibility of TruXedo TonneauMate Truck Bed Toolbox with 2003 GMC Sierra 1500
  • According to my contact at Truxedo, their TonneauMate toolbox, part # TX1117416 is indeed compatible with your 2003 GMC Sierra, unless you have a flareside, stepside or composite bed. If your truck has the GM Cargo Management System, which is the factory installed tracks along the top edge of the bed side, you will also need a clamp kit, part # TX1117458.

  • The Longview Towing Mirror, part # CTM1500 would extend just a bit more farther than the CIPA # 10801 and 10802 you are currently using. If you look at the provided photo I provided, you can see that the CIPA product extends 5-1/2 inches beyond the edge of the factory mirror while the Longview # CTM1500 extends by 5-1/8 inches. I do not believe the 3/8 inch larger extension offered by the Longview mirror would make much difference to you. Even a Custom Extendable Towing Mirror like part # KS6

  • A weight distribution system is used to more evenly distribute the weight of the trailer to all axles of the trailer and tow vehicle. When using the extension, # RP45292, the tongue weight capacity is going to depend on the length the extension is cut to. If it is cut down to 24 inches, the tongue weight capacity 600 pounds. • Brake Controller Does Not Activate Trailer Brakes with Brake Pedal on 2003 GMC Sierra 3500
  • There are indeed 2 different brake controller wiring harnesses used between the 2002 and 2003 GMC Sierra. A 2002 would use # 3025-P. The 2003, like you have, uses a # 3015-P. The difference between these 2 harnesses is the way they are pinned out. On # 3025-P the red wire is located next to the white ground wire, and below the black power wire. On # 3015-P the red wire is located next to the blue wire. You will not necessarily need a completely different harness if yours is pinned out

  • Can a Tonneau Cover be Installed on a 2003 GMC Sierra Short Bed with Over the Rail Bed Liner
  • The Access Tonneau Cover, # A22020219, will not fit with an over the rail drop in bed liner. You would need to remove the portion that goes over the rail (making it and under the rail bed liner) to get a tonneau cover to fit. The best option for a 2003 GMC Sierra with a 6-1/2 foot bed is the Craftec cover, # 251929. You will just need to trim the over the rail bed liner where the unit clamps to the truck as opposed to trimming large portions of it.

It will not fit on all models. The overall depth of the pan is 3-5/8 inches and the distance to the the 5/8 inch diameter cooling tubes is 2-1/2 inches from the top of the pan. • Left Brake Light and Turn Signal not Working on Trailer Towed by 2003 GMC Sierra
  • I suspect that you have a blown fuse. The fuses that manage your towing circuits are located in the power distribution box located under the hood of your truck. The box sits on the inside fender on the drivers side. Your owners manual should be able to tell you which particular fuse to look for. Once you replace the fuse, you will need to determine why the fuse blew. Carefully examine your trailer connector for corrosion or damage. Check your left turn/ brake light wiring on the trailer,

The owners manual will tell you where to look. If it is not hooked up, the wire will be located either under the fuse box, or maybe taped to the side of a wire harness. If you have a factory tow pack chances are that it is missing a fuse. I have never seen a factory harness for the 12v system that was not there. It is probably discon
