Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Subaru Forester

Today we are going to install part number 12038 from Curt, and we are going to install this hitch on a 2001 Subaru Forester. First thing we are going to do is we have to take down some parts off the vehicle to install the hitch. Take off this tie-down hook. We will have to temporarily lower this carbon canister. Now we are just going to lower it we are actually not going to take it all the way off. All right, we will just leave it like that. We do not have to worry from here on out. Now we need to go ahead and take down this bolt here for this bracket. What is going to happen is this bracket will go back in place with the hitch installed. The hitch is designed to fit around it, and the carbon canister will go back up when it is done. And on the drivers side, this rear tie-down mount will get removed and left off. And this rear hanger for the exhaust comes off temporarily and goes back on when we are done. What is going to happen is that, in the end, this is going to actually get bolted back to the hitch itself, and this exhaust bracket is going to stay off.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2001 Subaru Forester

Today we are going to install part number 118461 from Tow Ready, and we are going to install this part on a 2001 Subaru Forester. The connection points are inside the vehicle, in the rear, so we have to get inside the rear hatch and start pulling up the floor panels. Our connection point happens to be right here, underneath the threshold on the passengers side. You just pull it out. It has got the blue tape on it. And our T-connector will simply just snap in place, like so. And all that remains is to go ahead and attach the Modulite to the back of the sheet metal here. You can put it just any place you want but it seems pretty convenient and out of the way right here. And we can zip-tie our wires to the existing wire package here, and they will be safe and out of the way. Now we did not really have to take out the spare tire, but it gives you a better idea of what is going on.

2001 Subaru Forester Questions and Answers

  • Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2001 Subaru Forester
  • There are several trunk mount bike racks that will fit your 2001 Subaru Forester and I have included a link to them for you. The Yakima SuperJoe Pro 3, # Y02630, that you have referenced will fit as well. If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame tube that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # Y02531. This will allow you to carry the bikes more level and provide better ground clearance. I have included a link to a video sho

  • Will the Yakima SuperJoe Pro # Y02629 Fit a 2001 Subaru Forester
  • According to our friends at Yakima, the SuperJoe Pro 2 Bike rack you referenced, part # Y02629 will indeed fit your 2001 Subaru Forester. If your Forester is equipped with the rear window wiper, make sure you DO NOT use it with the rack in place. For womens bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like the Yakima Tube To, part # Y02531 is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and pr

  • Troubleshooting Hoppy Trailer Harness Part 33855 on a 2001 Subaru Forester
  • Use a circuit tester and go to the plug on the vehicle that you connected the harness to. Disconnect the trailer harness. Look at the picture I have linked below. In the picture, the pin on the top left corner should be the left blinker pin. Test this pin on the vehicle connector. Have someone activate the left blinker. If your circuit tester flashes with the blinker, then the Hoppy harness is probably bad. If your circuit tester does not flash, then there is a problem on the vehicle. Trace
