Fifth Wheel Hitch Installation - 2015 Ram 3500

Today on our 2015 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty Crew Cab we're going to be installing the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package vehicles, rated for 25,000 pounds, part number BWRVK3600. There's a handle on each side that has the black rubber piece on it. As you lift up, that's what releases it so that when you set it down on, it catches and locks it in place. You'll then need to take the pin, go back through, put your clip in. You need to do that for both sides. Now the head can pivot forward and backwards. Now that we have the head attached, to release the jaws so that you can hook up your camper or trailer, you remove the pin.

Fifth Wheel Base Rail Kit Installation - 2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Today on our 2015 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab, we're going to be installing the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches, part number RP50073-58. Here's what our Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails look like installed in the vehicle. In addition to the base rails, we've also installed the Reese R20 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, part number RP30867. While today we have the R20 Fifth Wheel Hitch installed in our rails, these base rails are compatible with several different brands of hitches. We're going to first begin with removing the rear tires. This is not necessary, but it will give us a little more working room, as well as allow you to see things a little bit easier during the installation. Next, we're going to lower down the spare tire as well. While this is not necessary, again it'll give yourself a little more working room and it's also going to allow you to see things a little bit better. Next, we're going to go up into the bed of the vehicle and we're going to take one of the two rails.

Curt Fifth Wheel C16546 Review

Today we're going to review part number 16546. This is the Curt Q24 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, with the Curt R24 slider. It's a dual jaw design with a 24,000 pound weight capacity. For demonstration purposes I do have it mounted on some base rails and the mounting bracket to give you an idea what it looks like in the vehicle. But the base rails and the mounting bracket are sold separately. This is a two jaw locking system right here. It provides a 360 degree jaw to king pin contact. It will give you less rattle, more security then the slide bar models. On the very back here, I'm going to show you in a minute when I turn it around here, it has a three point color-coded indicator system.

Today we're going to review part number 16516. This is the Curt E16 fifth wheel trailer hitch on the Curt R16 roller. This is a slide bar jar design hitch and has a 16,000 pound weight capacity. For demonstration purposes I do have the slider and the hitch head mounted on some base rails with the mounting brackets just to show you how it looks installed in a vehicle. The base rails and the brackets would be sold separately.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2014 F-150 Ecoboost Supercab 4x4 6 Foot Bed
  • Unless you have moderate automotive skills, I would probably have a professional do this installation. I will also send you a separate email with the installation instructions for the Curt 5th wheel hitch # 16516. The Curt 5th wheel hitch # 16516, is a fit for your 2014 Ford F-150 with a 6 foot, 6 inch bed. This slider has a 4-way pivoting head and has a 16,000 pound maximum trailer weight, and 4,000 pound vertical load weight limit. This hitch also has 3 height settings from 15 to 17...

  • Available Height Adjustment of Curt # C16521 Q16 5th Wheel Hitch
  • The Curt # C16521 5th wheel hitch you mentioned is indeed height adjustable from 17-1/2 to 21-1/2 inches in height. Some of the bed sides on todays trucks are pretty tall (like the Ford F Series), so the hitch heights needed to increase as well. To determine the necessary hitch height so your 5th wheel tows level, jack the 5th wheel so it's level. Measure from the bottom of the skid plate to the ground (not the king pin). Take the bed height above the ground and add the hitch height...

  • 5th Wheel Towing with 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 HD 8-ft Bed That Has 20-Inch Wheels
  • A truck that is lifted above standard height - either by a suspension lift kit or by use of larger diameter wheels - will make 5th wheel towing more difficult. This height increase reduces clearance between the 5th wheel overhang and the truck's bed rails and/or tailgate. The linked diagram shows you the recommended minimum clearances between a truck and trailer. I checked the Grand Design website's specs for the pin height of the 320X but this information is not provided. You will want...

  • Best Position for B&W 5th Wheel Hitch in 2014 Ram 3500 Long Bed with Factory Prep Package
  • As you know, the B&W 5th wheel trailer hitch # BWRVK3600 fits directly into the puck system on your 2014 Ram 3500. The height is adjustable from 17 to 19 inches like you said but you can also adjust the hitch front to back. Since your Ram is a long bed I would configure the hitch so that the center of the hitch jaws are centered over the rear axle. This location will ensure you get the maximum capacity of the rear axle. I have included a link to the installation details for you that...

For that I would recommend a custom install kit like the part # RP50066-58. This will install in about half the time and will minimize drilling when compared to a universal install kit. I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out as well.

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Sidewinder Wedge Recommendation for a 2013 Dodge Ram with Rambox
  • There are a couple things you need to consider for using your 2013 Ram with a Rambox for towing a fifth wheel trailer. First, the jaws of a Curt Q-Series fifth wheel hitch are too wide to work with a Sidewinder. I spoke to my contact at Sidewinder about this recently. For that reason there isn't a wedge I could recommend you use. For a similar hitch that will work with the Sidewinder you would want the Reese part # RP30047. The correct wedge to use would be part # SWW-03. Also,...

  • If you are looking for a fifth wheel hitch and set of install rails for your 1989 Ford F250 with a long bed we certainly can help you. For a rail kit you would want the Reese Kit part # RP30035. This comes with everything to install a rail system in the bed of your truck. Since you have a long bed truck you wouldn't need a slider hitch like the part # RP30075 that you referenced. Instead a stationary hitch like the part # RP30047 would work great. Long bed trucks give plenty of clearance...

  • Troubleshooting my Release Lever on a Husky Adjustable EZ Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
  • It seems to me it could be a few things. You may need to lubricate a couple areas. I would look at your 5th wheel hitch manual to determine where it needs to be lubricated and what type of grease to use. You could possibly be high hitching. That is when you are backing up your jaw to king pin contact is too high. I would take a look at jaws, spring retaining pins and other components to ensure nothing is broken or loose. It will provide you the approximate distance from B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch # BWRVK3600 to the bed front edge to determine the width of a tool box you can add. The 16K-rated Pro Series # PS30855 and the Reese # RP30047 both feature a 4-way pivoting head assembly to simplify hitching your trailer on uneven ground as well as a dual-jaw system for better grip on your king pin. • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer be Towed with Slider Hitch in Rear Maneuvering Position
  • The reason it is not advisable to tow a 5th wheel trailer with a slider hitch in it's rear (maneuvering) position is indeed for concern with the trailer's weight distribution. The pin weight of a 5th wheel trailer needs to be centered just forward of the tow vehicle's rear axle. If the trailer were to be towed with the hitch in its rearward position the trailer pin weight would be behind the rear axle and cause the front end of the truck to lift up. This condition is dangerous as it means...
