Fifth Wheel Hitch Installation - 2015 Ram 3500

Today on our 2015 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty Crew Cab we're going to be installing the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package vehicles, rated for 25,000 pounds, part number BWRVK3600. There's a handle on each side that has the black rubber piece on it. As you lift up, that's what releases it so that when you set it down on, it catches and locks it in place. You'll then need to take the pin, go back through, put your clip in. You need to do that for both sides. Now the head can pivot forward and backwards. Now that we have the head attached, to release the jaws so that you can hook up your camper or trailer, you remove the pin.

Fifth Wheel Base Rail Kit Installation - 2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Today on our 2015 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab, we're going to be installing the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches, part number RP50073-58. Here's what our Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails look like installed in the vehicle. In addition to the base rails, we've also installed the Reese R20 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, part number RP30867. While today we have the R20 Fifth Wheel Hitch installed in our rails, these base rails are compatible with several different brands of hitches. We're going to first begin with removing the rear tires. This is not necessary, but it will give us a little more working room, as well as allow you to see things a little bit easier during the installation. Next, we're going to lower down the spare tire as well. While this is not necessary, again it'll give yourself a little more working room and it's also going to allow you to see things a little bit better. Next, we're going to go up into the bed of the vehicle and we're going to take one of the two rails.

Curt Fifth Wheel C16546 Review

Today we're going to review part number 16546. This is the Curt Q24 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, with the Curt R24 slider. It's a dual jaw design with a 24,000 pound weight capacity. For demonstration purposes I do have it mounted on some base rails and the mounting bracket to give you an idea what it looks like in the vehicle. But the base rails and the mounting bracket are sold separately. This is a two jaw locking system right here. It provides a 360 degree jaw to king pin contact. It will give you less rattle, more security then the slide bar models. On the very back here, I'm going to show you in a minute when I turn it around here, it has a three point color-coded indicator system.

Curt Fifth Wheel C16545-16017 Review

Today we're going to review part number C16545-16017. This is the CURT Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for the Ford towing prep package. It is a dual jaw design hitch. It has a 24,000 pound weight capacity. This part number is a custom fit part number. It's designed to fit the 2011 and newer Ford Super Duty trucks with the factory installed towing prep package. Now this hitch has the 2-jaw locking system which will provide a 360-degree jaw-to-kingpin contact.

Curt Fifth Wheel C16515-16017 Review

Today we're going to review part number C16515-16017. This is the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for the Ford Towing Prep Package. It is a slide bar jaw design; has a 16,000-lb weight capacity. This is a custom fit part number. This is designed to fit the 2011 and newer Ford super duty trucks with the factory installed towing prep package. This hitch is an auto-locking, slide-bar jaw mechanism, helps provide superior security. Right back here you'll see the spring loaded; it's a rear steel tension bar.

Curt Fifth Wheel C16520-16017 Review

Today we're going to review part number C16520-16017. This is the CURT Q16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with the Ford OEM Legs. This is a dual-jaw design hitch with a 16,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the 2011 and newer Ford Super Duty Trucks that have the factory-installed towing prep package. These legs would drop right in to the factory package.

Curt Fifth Wheel 16516 Review

Today we're going to review part number 16516. This is the Curt E16 fifth wheel trailer hitch on the Curt R16 roller. This is a slide bar jar design hitch and has a 16,000 pound weight capacity. For demonstration purposes I do have the slider and the hitch head mounted on some base rails with the mounting brackets just to show you how it looks installed in a vehicle. The rails and the mounting brackets are sold separately on our web site. This is an auto locking slide bar jaw mechanism right here. Provides superior security. Has the rear steel tension bar right here that works with the slide bar to clamp around the king pin.

Curt Fifth Wheel C16521 Review

Today we're going to review part number C16521. This is the Curt Q16 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch on the Curt R16 Slider. This hitch is a dual jaw design. Has a 16,000 lb weight capacity. For demonstration purposes I do already have this mounted on the base rails and the mounting brackets just to give you an idea what this would be like installed in your truck bed. The base rails and the brackets would be sold separately.

Curt Fifth Wheel C16536 Review

Today we're going to review part number C16536. This is the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with the Curt R20 Slider. This is a Dual Jaw design hitch and has a 20,000 lbs weight capacity. Now, for demonstration purposes, I have this mounted on some base rails just to give you an idea of how this would install on your truck bed. Now, this is a 2-Jaw locking system right up there which will provide 360-degrees jaw-to-king-pin contact. That will give you less rattle, more security than some of the slide-bar models. The head on this is a unique spherical axial bearing which allows easy pivoting of the hitch head.

Fifth Wheel Questions and Answers

  • Towing Capacity of a 1994 Dodge Diesel
  • The best way to determine your towing capacity is by contacting your local Dodge dealer and provide them your VIN. They can pull up all the specifications for your truck. I attempted to find an owners manual online but was unsuccessful. Another way is to find the maximum trailer weight you can tow is by subtracting the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of your truck from the gross combined weight rating (GCWR) that will give you the maximum gross trailer weight and/or max towing capacity...

  • Recommended Mounting Kit for Reese Titan 20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
  • The Reese Titan 20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Round Tube Slider, # RP30870, which you referenced is not a fit for your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 long bed. Also there is no need for a sliding hitch with your long bed truck. Sliding hitches make more noise and have more movement, so if they are not necessary, we do not recommend using one. Instead I recommend Reese Titan 20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # RP30867, along with custom base rails # RP50066-58. These custom rails will be much easier...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2013 Ford F-350 Long Bed with Prep Package
  • I have exactly what you need. Since you have the 5th wheel hitch prep package from Ford you will want the Reese Fifth Wheel Dual Jaw Trailer Hitch # RP30047. This hitch is designed to fit the bed rail in your 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty's 8 foot bed, has a 16,000 lb capacity and can pretty easily be removed and installed. You will also need Reese Elite Series Underbed Rail Adapter for Standard 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30156. I attached a review video for Reese hitch # RP30047...

  • How to Determine Which 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Works Best on a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • If you happen to have an 8 foot long bed, I recommend the Reese fifth wheel trailer hitch # RP30047 because of the 2-jaw latching system. The gross towing weight is 16,000 pounds and tongue weight is 4,000 pounds. If you happen to need a rail kit, you can use the custom kit # RP50064-58. If you have a 6-1/2 foot bed, the sliding hitch # RP30051 will provide 10-inches front to back travel for better turning clearance. It will also have the 2-jay latching system providing you more jaw...

  • Will the Pro Series Fifth Wheel Hitch part # PS30119 Work as a Replacement for a Draw Tite 6001

  • Moving Reese 5th Wheel Hitch From 2013 Silverado 2500 to 2015 Silverado 2500
  • The Reese Elite 5th wheel hitch uses an under-bed mounting system that would have 4 pucks that sit flush with the floor of your truck bed, as opposed to the standard two rails that mount to the surface of the bed. If you do indeed have a Reese Elite 5th wheel hitch, both the 2013 and the 2015 Silverado 2500 use the same under-bed install system, part # RP30868. If the hitch you mentioned pins into the industry standard bed rails, your 2013 and the 2015 Silverado use the same install...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch & Base Rail Kit Recommendation for 2009 Nissan Titan with a 5-1/2 ft Bed
  • The 2015 Rockwood Signature Ultra Light fifth wheel model 8289WS has a dry weight of only about 8100-lbs, quite low for a 31-foot trailer. This means that even a modestly-rated 16K hitch will have the capacity you need plus give you an excellent safety margin. I am suggesting a 16K hitch since at this capacity additional features become available that are not offered in lower-rated 15K units. There are few 5th wheel hitches that are not compatible with a Revolution (or Sidewinder) pin...

  • Is a Single Rear-Wheel or Dually Rear-Wheel Truck Better for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • If you have the option I would definitely go with a dually. Higher capacity, less stress on the vehicle; the only down side is it is a larger truck. But provided that the truck you choose has the capacity for the trailer then single rear or dually rear would be fine. I definitely recommend a long bed because short bed trucks will require additional equipment to be able to make tight turns. Otherwise you are right on the money looking at 1-ton diesels. When people ask I will always...

As long as the toolbox doesn't extend above the bed side rails of the truck, you should have no fit worries. • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer be Towed with a Lifted 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Long Bed
  • Most 5th wheel trailer hitches and pin boxes on 5th wheel trailers are height adjustable so you should be able to compensate for the taller truck. The only issues you might run into are 1) the lift on the truck makes the towing capacities unknown (unless Dodge can tell you what it would be) and 2) even after adjusting the height on the hitch and/or pin box the trailer may ride nose up at the front instead of level. I can help with the second issue. As long as the trailer uses double-eye...

  • Pro Series 16k Fifth Wheel Hitch Comparison with Titan 16k Hitch
  • The Pro Series 16k Hitch part # PS30119 that you referenced is considered an entry level hitch when compared to the Reese Titan 16k Hitch part # RP30866 that you also referenced. Between the two the Titan would provide you with a much smoother ride. The jaw design of the Titan provides 360 degree contact with the king pin which help prevent that start/stop movement you described. This is also known as, "chucking." The Titan also has cushioning built into the head for added smoothness....

  • Will Reese Elite 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Fit Under BakFlip F1 Tonneau Cover on 2015 Ford F-350
  • 5th wheel trailer hitches, including # RP30143, are height adjustable. For this Reese Elite hitch the lowest it can go is 14-1/2 inches from the bottom of its legs to the top of the hitch. Measure the distance from the tops of the bed corrugations to the bottom of the top part of the bed sides, see picture. If that distance is greater than 14-1/2 inches then I do not see a problem having the hitch in place with the BakFlip F1 installed. The handle does stick up a little further than...

  • Folding Gooseneck Trailer Hitch that Will Leave the Bed Clear when Not in Use
  • I have never heard of a folding 5th wheel hitch but there are plenty of folding gooseneck trailer hitches available for the big 3 domestic truck manufacturers. I think a gooseneck hitch is what you are talking about. As an example, take a look at # C-52. If you want to tow a 5th wheel trailer, not a gooseneck trailer, you would need a regular 5th wheel hitch. There are some options for 5th wheel hitches that, once removed, leave pretty much the whole bed clear. I would really need...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2015 Ford F-250 Short Bed with Factory Rail Kit
  • The factory rail kit is available for the 2015 Ford F-250 with a short bed. Since the truck has a short bed you would need a hitch with a slider that is confirmed to fit these rails like the Reese Elite Fifth Wheel Hitch with Slider part # RP30144 that you referenced. The slider allows the hitch and trailer to slide back further into the truck bed so that you have the needed clearance to make tight turns in parking lot situations.

And for the hardware to attach the rails to these brackets you will need # RP58430. You will definitely need to use a Sidewinder replacement pin box to get clearance to make tight turns.
