B and W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Review

Today we're going to show you a B&W companion 5th wheel trailer hitch with slider, part number BWRVK3400-5W. All right. This is what the companion 5th wheel hitch looks like in a typical application. Here, we have it in a short bed box on a Chevy truck, and you can see that it takes up a lot of the bed. This is designed for a short bed with the slider in mind. Pretty easy to use the slider. There's a lever right here that you pull up.

Demco RV Fifth Wheel DM6076SL-FLAT Review

Today we're going to review part #DM6076SL-FLAT. This is the Demco High Jacker SL Series 21,000 pound flat deck double pivot slider fifth wheel hitch. This fifth wheel hitch is designed to mount into your truck bed so you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. It is a slider design and it is designed for short bed trucks to give you that additional clearance between the trucks cab and the trailer during turning maneuvers. This high jacker SL series fifth wheel will allow you to move your hitch back towards the tail gate of your truck into increments of four inches each so, a total of eight inches, if needed. That's how you'll gain that extra clearance between your truck cab and your trailer. This is designed to be installed on SL base rails and a custom install kit which we do sell those items separately on our website. What I would recommend is go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you the correct part numbers for the SL base rails and the custom install kit that would be used with this. The base rails are a different design than your normal base rails.

It is a slider design, which is designed for short bed trucks to give you that additional clearance between the truck's cab and the trailer during turning maneuvers. This Hijacker SL series 5th wheel will allow you to move your hitch back towards the tailgate of the truck in two increments of four inches each, so you can get a total of 8 inches if needed. That's how you will gain that extra clearance between your truck cab and your trailer. Now this does require SL base rails and a custom install kit to put this on your vehicle.

Demco RV Fifth Wheel DM8550032 Review

Today, we're going to review part number DM8550032. This is the Demco 21,000 lbs Hijacker UMS, which is underbed mount, Double Pivot 5th Wheel Hitch. Now this 5th wheel hitch is designed to mount in your truck bed so you can tow your 5th-wheel trailer. Uses this double-pivot head which makes coupling and uncoupling your trailer really easy. When it's double-pivot it means it goes front to back and it also moves side to side. It's hard to show that because it's made to have weight on it to do the side to side movement.

Demco RV Fifth Wheel DM6076P-21K Review

Today we're going to review part number BM6076P-21K. This is the Demco hijacker premier series 21,000 pound double-pivot 5th-wheel hitch. Now this 5th-wheel hitch is designed to mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your 5th-wheel trailer. It uses this double-pivot head meaning it goes front to back. It also moves side to side. That's a little bit harder to show just because it does require some weight on the hitch head so the side-to-side movement you would be able to see but because of this double-pivot head, it does make coupling and coupling of your trailer very easy.

Demco RV Fifth Wheel DM6076P-16K Review

Now this 5th Wheel Hitch is designed to mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your 5th Wheel Trailer. It uses this double pivot head you can see here. By double pivot, it means front to back and also side to side. Now the side to side is a little bit harder to show just because it does require weight on this to actually move it side to side.

Demco RV Fifth Wheel DM6076P-UL-16K Review

Today we are going to review part number DM6076P-UL-16K. This is the Demco Hijacker Premier series: 16,000 pound, double pivot, ultra slide, fifth wheel hitch. This fifth wheel hitch is designed to mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. It has the built in slider right here, and this will provide your clearance required for your short bed truck to turn safely at slow speeds. It does use a double pivot head. The double pivot means it goes front to back and side to side, and makes coupling and uncoupling very easy. To show you the side to side movement is hard to do because it does require weight to be on the hitch head, and then you can see it would move side to side. It does have the polyurethane bumpers underneath the hitch head here.

Demco RV Fifth Wheel DM8550038 Review

Today we're going to review part number DM8550038. This is the Demco 21,000 Hijacker Autoslide Fifth Wheel Hitch for the Ford OEM Towing Prep Packages. This Hijacker Autoslides an automatic sliding fifth wheel hitch. It is designed for Ford Trucks with the factory towing prep package to give you additional clearance between the truck's cab and the trailer during turning maneuvers. It also eliminates the need to get in and out of the truck, pull a pin and manually slide the hitch like on some hitches. This will automatically slide by using the rack and pin and gear technology in the base of the hitch and it'll give you up to 14 inches of travel to get in and out of those tight spots. Normally a fifth wheel trailer will turn or pivot in the jaw when the king pin's connected to the hitch head. Once you install your pin box a normal fifth wheel hitch pin box rotates on the head.

Fifth Wheel Questions and Answers

  • What is the Best Truck for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • You are doing the right thing by doing the research first. There is a lot of conflicting information out there so let me break it down for you. Basically, if you want to tow a 5th wheel trailer, the best trucks are going to be long bed 3/4 or 1 tons like a Ford F-250/F-350, Chevy/GMC 2500/3500, or Ram 2500/3500. Half ton trucks could work but are not nearly as capable as the larger trucks. A long bed for sure is something you will want. Having a long bed means that you will not need...

  • Minimum Truck Bed Length for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer Without Cab and Loft Clearance Issues
  • The minimum bed length for towing a fifth-wheel trailer with a standard fifth-wheel hitch, see link, is 8 feet. A 6-1/2 inch bed like the Silverado Extended Cab you mentioned can be used along with a slider style fifth-wheel hitch, see link, that requires you to remember to get out of the truck and move a handle to slide the hitch rearward when tight parking and campground situations are encountered. Once ready to go back out on the road the hitch will need to be moved forward, requiring...

  • Tips for Choosing the Best Truck to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Staring with the truck series itself, I would go with a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. Ultimately a 1-ton would be better. Between gas and diesel I would choose a diesel if it were me. They are capable of more power and torque than gas motors. The cab style does not matter all that much but the bed size does. You will want to avoid a step side bed and a Dodge model that has a Rambox feature because they cannot have a 5th wheel hitch installed. Long beds are the way to go. A short bed can cause issues...

  • Best Way to Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer With 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 With Factory Tow Prep Package
  • In my opinion, the best way to tow a fifth wheel trailer with your 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 with the OEM fifth wheel prep package is to use a fifth wheel hitch that fits the in-bed pucks in your truck bed. You have several hitch options that will work, but my favorite is the B&W Companion 25K Fifth Wheel Hitch, # BWRVK3600. This hitch will drop right into the pucks in the truck bed and once it is removed, you will have full access to your bed. Curt also makes fifth wheel hitches for the...

Reese is a leader in the towing industry and we sell more Reese hitches than any other brand. It is height adjustable from 14-1/2 to 18 inches. The jaw on the Reese hitch is a double jaw style. This is a safe and secure style. Only the single hook is considered to be better. It has a double pivot head. The next step down in price is the Pro...

  • What is a Safe Distance Between Truck Bed Rails and the Underside of a 5th Wheel Camper Trailer Loft
  • Our recommendation for safe towing, no damage to truck bed rails or underside of trailer loft is 6 inches. If you have at least 6 inches of clearance with the trailer level you should be alright in all but the most severe pitch and roll situations, like entering a steep drive or going through a deep dip. If your fifth-wheel hitch does not have enough rise to accommodate 6 inches of clearance, then you might be interested in a hitch that can be adjusted to 18 inches above the truck bed,...

  • What Size Truck is Recommended for Towing a 16,000 Pound 5th Wheel Trailer
  • While there is not a specific truck size required, to maximize towing capacity and minimize wear and tear on the drive train of the truck, I would recommend a full size, 3/4 ton truck like the Ford F-250, Chevy or GMC 2500, or Dodge Ram 2500 Series. I would recommend a truck with the 8 foot bed if possible, which would eliminate the need for a sliding hitch or a replacement pin box for the fifth wheel. That is not to say that other trucks are incapable so you will need to check the...
