Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2007 Toyota Tundra

Today we are going to install on a 2007 Toyota Tundra and we will be installing the brake controller part number 39519 the Tekonsha Prodigy. We will also be using part number 3040-p from Tekonsha which lets you plug into the factory tow package in the vehicle. We begin our install by finding a spot to mount our bracket onto. Just go ahead and put it up there and see if you like it as a nice place to put a brake controller. It should give you a pretty good idea of how it fits. Makes sure you can access the thumb wheel on top. Seeing the LED screen is equally important. Now that you know it is in the correct position you can go ahead and mark the holes before you drill them. Now we will go ahead and drill out our holes after we have marked them. more

What that is going to involve is we are going to take this panel loose and we are going to take this 4-pole mount off because our parts are going to replace this area. :22 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Toyota Tacoma - Video

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Today on this 2008 Toyota Tacoma pick up we will be installing Prodigy brake controller part number 90185 and we will also be using the brake control wiring kit part number ETBC7. We are going to start here at the rear of the vehicle and mount our 7-pole first. As you can see our vehicle here already has an existing 4-pole that we are going to be plugging our 7-pole adapter into. So in preparation I want to find a spot to go ahead and mount our 7-pole bracket to. On this Tacoma there is not a whole lot to work with. We typically like to mount it here on the back side of the bumper. Mounting at that angle would be kind of obnoxious. So I am actually going to be using part number 118136 which is a long bracket that will attach to the trailer hitch here with the use of a hose clamp. And then we can just mount our 7-pole bracket on like so. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Today we are going to be installing brake control part number 90185, the Prodigy, along with the Prodigy wiring harness, part number 3040-P, on a 2008 Toyota Sequoia. We are inside the vehicle now, and the first thing that we are going to do is to locate the aftermarket port that we are going to plug the 3040-P into. The first thing we want to do is go ahead and remove this. There is actually a thumbscrew right here that needs to be removed and then there are a couple of pop rivets here that you just need to pry away from, then pull that out into position. You might need to actually remove a little bit of the bottom plate here, as well, to allow the plate to be removed. And you can see there are a bunch of electrical connections here. The port is kind of hidden that we are going to be connecting to. It is actually taped to this blue harness here, almost by the fuses. You can see I have already cut the tape here and I can pull the connector out, right there. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser Part 2

All right next what we need to do is run this wire up to the front side of the vehicle up by our fire wall. Basically we just have to keep this as close to the frame as possible away from the exhaust and also as far to the left as possible to keep it away from the steering arm too. We have got our wire pulled through on the top here but we need to get to the left side as far as possible so push it back down and pull it on this side so it will come back close to our battery and our access point through the fire wall right here. And you will notice we ran the wire from here all the way up to the positive terminal here. :35 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2010 Toyota Highlander

Today in this 2010 Toyota Highlander, were going to install the Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller, part number 90195. To install this brake installer, well also be using the ETBC7 kit and a tow-ready universal mounting bracket, part number 18136. First Im going to install my seven-pole bracket that comes in my kit with the universal mounting bracket. Next, well go ahead and put our bracket on the hitch. Once I have my bracket attached, Ill just use a pair of tune snips to cut off the access from the band. Now weve got our simple bracket and universal mounting bracket attached to the hitch, well go ahead and install our seven pole connector. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2002 Toyota Tundra - Video

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2002 Toyota Tundra

Today on this 2002 Toyota Tundra, were going to install the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part number 90885, and we are also going to use the install kit part number ETBC7. So our first step involved is to go ahead and remove the factory four pole wiring harness, and we are going to mount our 7 pole bracket to that. There are two screws we are going to remove right here, remove the bracket from the four pole as well. Were going to remove the two Phillip screws to free up the bracket from the four pole, there is one here and one on the other side. Now our 7 pole bracket just barely misses the two mounting holes on the factory bracket, so what we are going to do is actually drill these out to 3/8ths of an inch. They will get pretty thin on the side here, but it will be enough to hold everything together, it will be almost factory when we are done. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2010 Toyota Highlander

Today on this 2010 Toyota Highlander we are going to be installing Prodigy brake controller, part number 90185. We are going to start our install inside the cab of the vehicle. We are going to first mount the Prodigy brake controller into place and then we will start the wiring process after that. The first thing that I want to note is that the Prodigy comes with two different mounting brackets here. The more traditional smaller bracket does take screws that are holding it in so it is more of a permanent fixture. And the less permanent pocket option is a little bit bulkier but it allows you to move the Prodigy easily, either if you want to store it or want to use it between different vehicles. Instead of having mounting screws, it uses these clips on the sides to hold it in place. So to move it from one vehicle to another, all you need to do is unplug the harness out of the back of the Prodigy. For this installation, we are going to use the more traditional bracket to save a little bit of room because this is a tight vehicle. There is not a whole lot of working room. 0:51 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Today on this 2009 Toyota Tacoma we are going to install a brake controller from Tekonsha, this is going to be the Prodigy P3 brake controller part number 90195. We are also going to use the install kit part number ETBC7. The truck has the factory 4-pole already in place so what we are going to have to do is take down the original factory bracket with the 4-pole and then move it out of the way and install the new bracket that comes with the ETBC7 kit. This is the bracket that comes with the ETBC7 kit. It is going to be a tight fit but I think we can sneak it on there using the existing bolt holes. If it is a little bit tight just run a drill bit through there to make the one size a little bit bigger. 00:44 more

Today on this 2010 Toyota Tundra we are going to install part number 90885-3040P. First thing we will do is show you where the port is on the vehicle, this has a factory tow package. It is going to be underneath the dash on the left hand side. First thing we are going to do is plug the adapter cord into the factory port right here. Next, we are going to take our ground wire and ground it to the piece of sheet metal right here next to this fastener. :31 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Today on this 2004 Toyota 4Runner we are going to be installing Prodigy brake controller along with the Prodigy wiring harness part number 90185-3040P. The first thing we want to check for in this vehicle just to make sure that the vehicle is fully equipped with the tow package and that it will have the port that we will be plugging into. A good way to check that is to come to the rear of the vehicle and make sure it has a factory installed 7-pole and not just an after market one. With that verified we can go inside the vehicle and start locating the wiring port that we are going to be plugging our brake controller into. 00:31 more
