Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Dodge Ram Pickup - Video
Today on this 2009 Dodge Ram we will be installing the Tekonsha P3 brake controller along with the wiring harness for it, part number 90195-3020P. The first thing I want to point out is the factory installed 7-pole at the rear of the vehicle and this will be the indicator of whether or not your vehicle is going to have the factory installed brake control port under the dash. The factory 7-pole we are looking for is built into the bumper. It will have the Chrysler logo built on the front. If you do not have this plug you will likely not have the port under the dash that we are going to be plugging into. Thus will have to hardwire your brake controller into the vehicle. 00:38 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2005 Dodge Durango - Video
Today we are going to do our install on a 2005 Dodge Durango with the tow package from the factory, and we are going to install Part Number 90185, the Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller. And we are also going to install the accompanying brake control harness for the Dodge tow package, and that is Part Number 3020P. To begin our install, we will start with the bracket to hold our brake controller. And that is actually pretty easy. There is already an existing screw underneath the dash, and we are going to use that. We use a torx bit and we are going to go ahead and take that down. Then we run our bracket right back through it, and we are going to overlap so it will sandwich the plastic back up there like it was originally. more

Today on this 2008 Dodge 3500 we are going to install the Tekonsha P3 brake controller, part number 90195. Our first step is going to be locating where you want to mount your brake controller. For this application, we are going to mount it right here. One of my mounting fasteners is also going to be one of the current trim fasteners. So I will go ahead and remove that first and install my mounting bracket. For my other fastener, we are just going to use one of the screws provided in the installation kit. 0:35 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2010 Dodge Nitro - Video
Today on this 2010 Dodge Nitro we are going to install brake controller part number 90885 from Tekonsha. This is their Prodigy P2 brake controller. And to install this, we are going to use part number ETBC7. The first thing we need to do is go ahead and take the bracket from the ETBC7 kit. We are going to install that on to the bracket that is on the hitch. The next step is to go ahead and do some partial assembly on the 7-pole itself. What we will do is we will go ahead and add the gray cable that comes with the kit and we will hook it up to our 7-pole connector. What we are going to do is actually just wind this up in electric tape and leave our leads out that we need. We are going to leave our 4-pole sticking out and we are going to need our brake wire which is going to be blue and out black wire for 12 volt power supply. And then we will just wrap up our purple and white wires. Our white wire is going to go directly to the frame for ground. And then the purple wire is going to be for reverse lights if it is ever needed. And to our black and blue wires we are going to install the grey cable that has the black and white wires inside of it. What we are going to do is just peel away the grey sheath. Then stripe our wires back and make our connections: black to black and white to blue. Cover those up with some electric tape. Next we will go ahead and install the loom along the wires like this. 1:20 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 1990 Dodge Ram Pickup - Video
Today on this 1990 Dodge Ram Pickup we are going to be installing Prodigy brake controller part number 90185 along with brake controller wiring kit part number ETBC7. We are going to start our installation back here at the rear of the vehicle and we are going to install our 7-pole at the rear first. The first thing we want to do is mount the bracket for the 7-pole. This particular vehicle has a nice large bumper that we can drill into. You just want to find a nice mounting location. Mark the holes and drill those out. I am just going to be using some self tapping screws to accomplish this. You can also drill 1/ 4 inch hole out if you like and use the provided hardware down through the bumper. Next we are going to take the 7-pole adapter from the ETBC7. Mount it on to the bracket and we are going to be doing that using the provided hardware. The next step is to merge up the 4-pole end on our 7 and 4 way adapter to the existing 4-pole that is on the vehicle. If you do not have an existing 4-pole you will need to add that on as well. However, this existing 4-pole unfortunately is not compatible with our 4-pole that we have on our adapter so what I am going to have to do is cut the ends off and wire them in direct. 01:14 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 1999 Dodge Pickup - Video
Today on this 1999 Dodge, we will be installing part number 90195-3020P. The P3 part. The first thing I want to note on this vehicle here at the rear is the 7-pole plug. This is actually a factory 7-pole plug which is going to allow us simply to plug our brake controller and adapter into place and go. To figure out if you have the factory 7-pole plug, you will note that this has got the welded bracket to the factory installed trailer hitch and if you actually look at the cover of the 7-pole, you will see the Chrysler logo and if you look closely you will see the actual Chrysler name written across the front. Those two indicators will help you know that you have got the correct factory plug. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 - Video
Today we are going to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ brake controller on a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. We will also be using the Tekonsha wire harness, part number 3020-P. The Primus IQ is a proportional style brake controller. It sense how hard or how softly you are braking in the vehicle and sends the proper voltage to the trailer brakes so the whole braking action is smooth and even. It features a digital LED display and also has three levels of boosts to increase or decrease the trailer braking power as needed. It can be mounted between 0 degrees and 70 degrees nose up. And it is covered by a limited lifetime warranty. In the packaging for the brake controller, you will find the brake controller itself, as well as a fixed black plastic mounting bracket and a black metal bracket that we will not be using. You will also find a packet of screws for attaching the bracket to the vehicle and the controller to the bracket, as well as a generic harness with loose wire ends. But since we have our custom fit harness today, we will not be using that wiring. Let us head to the vehicle. 1:13 more

And then you can plug in the brake controller cord. Plug the cord into it. Then we will take the rest of this and route it up over to the other side. Today on this 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan we are going to install brake controller and we are going to be using part number 5520 the Activator 3 from Draw-Tite. We are going to be using a bracket part number 118136 from Tow Ready and we are going to be using brake controller install kit part number ETBC7. We will begin our install by installing our bracket on the hitch and we will clamp it into place using the supplied clamp. Next we will take the 7-pole bracket and install that next onto the bracket that we just did. Next thing we need to do is prepare the 7-pole that comes with the ETBC7 kit and get it ready to install in our bracket. What we are going to do next is connect our gray cable to our 7-pole cables so basically we are going to strip this back and make our connections. We are going to hook this black to black, and this black wire is going to go straight up to the battery for our 12 volt power supply and that is it. This white wire is going to go to the blue wire that is going to go to our brake controller so when we go back up to the brake controller this white wire will go back up to the blue. 01:03 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Part 2 - Video
To get to the engine compartment, we are going to drill out a hole right here, between this grommet and this smaller grommet up here. We are going to start off with a 1/4 inch and work our way up so we can install our bushing, which will end up right in there. Be careful of the wires right next door. Once you have your holes drilled out, you can go ahead and insert your bushing of your choice. And at this point you can take the extra wire that you had and wire going to the brake controller going out to the connector you can run those through right now. We are going to run outside our blue wire going out to our trailer, our white wire is going to go to ground, and our black wire will eventually go to our power. To give yourself a good idea about how much wire to leave left over behind so you have enough to reach the brake controller when you install it and it is always a good idea to have a little bit extra on the inside. So we will push a little back in there towards the outside. 1:05 more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Part 1 - Video
Today, we are going to install part number 90185, the Prodigy brake controller from Tekonsha and we are going to install this on an 08 Dodge Grand Caravan. Also, on this install, we are going to be using part number ETBC-7 and also part number 118140 bracket kit. First, we are going to install the 18140 at the rear of the vehicle on the hitch. There is a hose clamp that holds it in place, basically. Kind of hold everything in place and just tighten it down. Now, we will install the bracket for the ETBC-7 kit and we will just put it on like so. Next, we will install the connector and it just goes into place like so. Put a couple of screws to hold it into place. Alright, at this point we will connect up to the preexisting 4-pole we already have. Next, we will put the existing 4-pole to the connector and before we do that we will put some dialectic grease in there keep it from corroding up over time. And we will put a zip tie around it make sure that it never comes apart. What we are going to do next is run our ground wire that will be the white with the ring terminal and then the purple wire is reverse light lead. In this instance we will not be hooking it up, that is because the trailer does not have any back up lights on it and also since this has to have a modulite for the wiring harness the reverse lights are not powered by the modulite, so it probably would not be a good idea to hook them up anyway. And then we will ground our ring terminal at the body panel near the pinch weld. Now, we will just go ahead and secure our wires to our other wires underneath the bumper. Next, what we need to do is go ahead and hook up our leads that go to the front of the vehicle. The blue will be going to the brake controller and the black will be going to the 12 volts basically straight to the battery going through a circuit breaker. We will just strip the ends off of the wire and we are going to go black to black for our 12 volt power supply and we are going to hook our white wire it is going to go to our blue wire. Just remember that the white wire is going to be going eventually back to the blue wire on the brake controller. We will go ahead and secure the wires with some tape, bind them up. Once you have them taped up secure, you can go ahead and install the loom assembly around it. It kind of slides onto the wire. You can also take the rest of your wires here and put it with it also. 2:33 more

The first thing were going to do is mount the wiring harness to the van. Well have to make a few connections. Well run this to the stoplight switch, the red wire, the white will get run to the battery ground, and the black will be ran to the positive ground. The blue wire will get run all the way to the back to the seven pole connector. Well do the brake pedal switch wire first, this gets connected to the cold side of the brake switch. Which means when you hit the brake, the wire comes on. Next well run our last three wires, which well have to go out the firewall. Theres a nice handy grommet here, well put a slice in it, poke our wires through and make our connections to the outside. Be sure to leave enough on the inside to be able to reach your brake controller. To mount our bracket for the brake controller we have this nice flat spot right here across this gap. more
