Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen

Install-trailer-wiring-2009-vw-jetta-sportwagen-56146 Today were working on the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sport Wagon. Were going to install the Curt powered Tail Light Converter part number 56146 and Power Converter Wiring kit 55151. Well go ahead and remove the spare tire and the truck contents and we need to access the manufactures wiring to both tail lights. So lets go ahead and remove the rear thresh hold. Weve got two fasteners on either side of the thresh hold. With the two screw fasteners removed, were going to gently pry up our thresh hold so that the fasteners underneath the thresh hold will release from the sheet metal. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 119175 on a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. OK, we are in the trunk now, and we are going to go ahead and locate the wires that we are going to be tapping into for the wiring harness. I went ahead and removed the bottom carpeting pieces to give me a little bit more room to work. Over here on the drivers side, you can see if I remove this little lid for this compartment here and pull back this piece here, that will give us access to the wires here on the drivers side. We can access 4 of the 5 wires right over here. We are going to need to run a lead over to the passengers side tail light assembly to make our connection there. We need to go ahead and figure out which wire goes with which function we are looking for. It appears to be the green wire with the yellow stripe is the left-turn signal. Next, I am going to test for the running-light function, and that wire appears to be the green one with the white stripe. Next, we are going to go ahead and test for the brakes. OK, and that appears to be just the solid green wire. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen

Today were working on a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. Were going to install a Curt 4-Pole Connector part # 56146kit. For the easy installation we've going to have removed the spare tire, now we need to remove the threshold so we can start gaining access to the tail light wiring behind the tail lights. To remove the threshold we've got a couple of fasteners that has been taken out first. Then I'm going to take my trim tool and gently get underneath the plastic and pop it free the closer you can get your trim tool to the plastic fasteners underneath the easier it'll be to remove the threshold we go ahead and set that aside for reinstallation later. Now to gain access behind the tail lights we've got a cargo door here on the driver side and then an access panel inside. more

Well be also using part number 118151 from Tow Ready, we will use that for our power wire to go to our power supply up in the front of the vehicle. Now were starting off the install with the vehicle partially disassembled already, we just got done installing a hitch and its a good time to do this wiring while the vehicle is partly disassembled. This is our module right here and we will do most our connection points on the drivers side. Go ahead and remove the bumper cover, to make it easier to see whats going on. We will attach our module here and we will extend these 2 wires to go up behind a tail light, we will make our connections behind the tail light and to the wire harness. The yellow wire here is going to be ran up to the drivers side tail light. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Today we are going to be installing the 4-pole converter, part number 119175 on a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. Okay we are inside the trunk area and I have already removed the bottom portion of the trunk well area and the rear threshold piece. The wires that we are going to need to access are going to be directly behind the tail lights. And there is actually a door here, if you open this up and fold this down you can open this door and you can see the main wiring harness for the tail light is right here at the bottom. So you can actually follow that down and test those wires. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Today on this 2008 Volkswagen Jetta we are going to install part number 119176 from Tow Ready. This is a wire harness that is hard wired into the vehicle and has a lead that is run up to the battery, so it does get powered by the vehicles battery itself. So first things first, go ahead and open up the trunk. First step involved, go ahead and take out the bottom panel and the threshold here. There are two screws I have to take out of the bottom of this. Now that we have all the interior paneling off we can see all the wiring in its entirety. You can see where some wires go up to the drivers side tail light, and also you can see wires go to the passenger side tail light. :52 more
