Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1999 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Video

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1999 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today we are going to be installing a wiring harness 118369 which will fit 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We are inside the back hatch now of the Grand Cherokee. There are also going to be 3 screws we are going to have to remove to access the wiring harness. You need to remove this screw here on the threshold. Both of these screws are here for the cargo tie down. Both of which need to be removed also. With these 3 screws removed we want to go ahead and remove this whole interior panel here. Besides the screws there are push rivet fasteners that are all inside here and along the inside of the side pieces as well. So we need to gain access to the interiors so we need to pop this side off. Go ahead and remove the bottom cargo tray to give us a little more room to work. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Today on this 2004 Jeep Wrangler we will be installing wiring harness part number 118409. We are underneath the Wrangler here, we are actually directly under the tail-light assembly underneath the car. The ports that we are going to be looking for to plug our harness into are located up above this rubber covering here. So we need to pull this back to gain access to the port. You can see we have one push pin here that is holding it into place, so we need to release that first. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118349 on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. OK, we are inside the rear of the vehicle now, and we are going to go ahead and locate the ports for the wiring harness. The ports can actually be located on the interior side, directly behind the tail light assemblies. Here on the drivers side is actually a door that we can remove and be able to locate the ports inside of there. On the passengers side, we actually are going to have to remove the interior panel and gain access that way. So, the first thing I am going to do is go ahead and remove the spare tire off the holder, so I can get a little more room to do some work here. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today on this 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118394. Okay, we are at the rear of the Grand Cherokee here and we are going to go ahead and locate the ports that we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. these ports are located directly behind the taillights on both sides of the vehicle. So, the first thing that we need to do is go ahead and remove both taillights. To do that, we need to remove the inboard screws that are holding it into place. There are two on each taillight. With those screws removed we can just kind of gently rock it back and forth to release the outboard side clips that are also holding the taillight into place. And with that pulled back, you can see on the back side of the taillight here is the port that we are going to need to disconnect and plug our harness in line to. And then for clarity, I am also going to remove this fasteners here at the bottom side of the wiring harness so I can set my taillight off to the side. 1:08 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1999 Jeep Wrangler

Today on this 1999 Jeep Wrangler we are going to install part number 118409 from Tow Ready. This is their T-One wire harness. Right now we are looking at the driver side of the vehicle and our connection points are going to be behind the body work right here so pull away the plastic trim panel right here to get access to the wiring. There is a little plastic rivet right here that we have to remove. Now you have to follow the wire harness up and there will be a connection point where you unplug. This one happened to have a bunch of tape wrapped around it so uncover the tape to get to the connection harness. It is kind of hard to see but there is a little latch on the top. Push down on it and it should pop apart. 00:39 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Jeep Patriot - Video

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Jeep Patriot

Today on this 2010 Jeep Patriot we are going to install wiring harness part number 118552 from Tow Ready and we are also going to use a 4-pole flat connector mounting bracket and we are going to use part number 118144 also from Tow Ready. For a quick overview what is going to happen is we are going to make our attachment points behind both tail lights and then we are going to run a 4-pole wiring harness down to the hitch and we are going to take our power wire and run it to the battery and we are going to run it up the driver side frame rail up to the battery. Lets begin. Open up the tail gate and start taking off the tail lights. When you take the attachment points off these are actually plastic rivets underneath here, the cap is kind of fragile so be careful when you remove it. Use a screwdriver to get it started and then use a trim panel tool to remove it. Gently pull it back a little bit, maybe wiggle it, and then pull it apart. At this point we can leave the light attached and then take off the other one. If you can it might be a better idea to disconnect the wiring harness from the light and put the light in the same spot just so it does not move around. 01:06 more

We are also going to be using the seven way bracket connector part number 18138 from Tow Ready and then we are going to use the 7 to 4-pole adapter part number 30717 from Hoppy. First we will start off with the T-one connector and we will make the first connection behind the passenger side tail light. We will pull down the plastic cover on the bottom. You will have to reach up inside towards the sheet metal in the back of the vehicle and you will look for a wire connector that is wrapped up in foam tape. The wires without the loom around it are behind the sheet metal there. The wire harness you need to pull back out gently and pull out the connectors with the foam tape wrapped around it. 00:44 more

So, to do that, you can see there is a push pin right here that needs to be pulled out, which can be kind of difficult to do, but it does come out. And that will allow us to pull the cover off. And if you can see, there is the harness. It has got some tape over it, but it is located right here. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1997 Jeep Cherokee

Today on this 1997 Jeep Cherokee we are going to install part number 118354 from Tow Ready. This T connector fits inside the vehicle on the driver side behind the tail light so what we need to do is get inside the vehicle to remove the spare tire and some interior panels. Now remove the fasteners for the spare tire bracket. Next we will remove the threshold panel. Now we need to remove the fasteners for this panel here. You do not have to take the whole panel loose but just for clarity we took it off. This is the connector right here that we have to disconnect and put our T connector into. It helps to pull this out a little bit to make easier working room. Push down this tab right here and it comes right apart and the T connector plugs right in between. Take everything and tuck it back into place. 01:42 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118369 on a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We are inside the rear of the vehicle, and we are going to go ahead and locate the connector for the wiring harness. The Grand Cherokee actually has a separate port where our wiring harness is going to plug into. And it is actually located on the drivers side, right here behind this interior panel that sits right about - right in here. So, we are going to need to remove this, and to do so we are going to need to take out a few screws. Take out the two screws that are holding down the tie-down hooks and then we want to take out the one screw that is holding the drivers side of the rear threshold piece. I am just going to come in and start here at the rear portion. I am just going to take a regular, flat-bladed screwdriver and just it here behind the panel. And just gently pry back until you hear the clips release. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1996 Jeep Wrangler - Video

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1996 Jeep Wrangler

Today we are going to install part number 118356 from Tow Ready, and we are going to install this on a 1996 Jeep Wrangler. OK, we will start off by positioning our 4-pole flat behind the hitch, and we are just going to leave it loose like that for now. And we will run our wires to the drivers side and the passengers side. Starting with the passengers side, which will be the green and white wires, we are going to run it behind the hitch itself, because there really is not anywhere else where you can hide the wiring on this particular vehicle. So, it is going to take quite a few zip-ties to hold everything in place. And our junction point will be up here, behind this plastic here, approximately in this area here. All right, we will just take down this plastic right here. more
