Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Series - Video

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Series

Today on this 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Series we will be installing the fifth wheel and goose neck wiring harness part number V30137. The first thing I want to note before we get started is that our harness comes in two separate pieces. We have got the 7-pole which is what we are going to be mounting in to the bed of the truck and then we have got the wiring harness itself. The wiring harness has two different ends on it. The one end of the wiring harness has a larger round plug and that is what is going to plug directly into the back of our 7-pole. The other end which we are going to feed down through the opening in between the bed and the fender well has the two square ports. The first thing I am going to do is drill out the hole in the bed for the 7-pole. We are going to be using a two inch hole saw to accomplish this. Next we are going to feed the square ports through the hole that we just drilled down underneath the vehicle. Then we want to plug in the round port into the back of the 7-pole and we just want to make sure we hear the snap so that we know that the two ends are engaged. 01:00 more

Today on this 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan we will be installing wiring harness part number 118552. The first thing we want to do is locate the ports for the wiring harness. The ports are located directly behind the tail light assembly on both sides of the vehicle. So we want to remove both of the tail lights from the vehicle to gain access. To do so we need to remove the two inboard screws here on the tail light assembly. :19 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter Installation - 2001 Dodge Durango - Video

Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter Installation - 2001 Dodge Durango

Today, we are going to show you part number 37185 which is an adapter goes from a 4 pole up to a 7 pole and additional 4 pole on the side. What we have here is a Dodge 4X4 Durango. It does not matter what vehicle you are working with as long as you start off with a basic 4 pole flat that is already installed, then you can upgrade from there. A multi-tow adapter does come with its own bracket to mount up with if you do not have an existing bracket, as in our application here, the hitch itself does supply the bracket. For comparison sake, this is the one that comes with the part number, 37189, but we are not going to use this today. We are going to use the factory bracket. I will show you how it mounts up we will mock it up there, and show you what is going on. That will essentially be are finished product when we are done. more

Today on this 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan we are going to install part number 118300 from Tow Ready. This is a wiring harness that uses a 4-pole flat at the end and where this connection installs at is behind both tail lights. We are going to open up the door hatch and take off the tail lights, find the connections, and we are going to route our wires into the vehicle itself where our 4-pole flat will be stored when it is done. To disconnect the tail light from the wiring harness we need push in on the red tab and we can unlock it and then we can release it. We are done with the driver side, lets go over to the passenger side and do the same thing. 00:36 more

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118376 on a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. Okay, taking a look at the wiring harness here, you can see we have got a T-connector here. That is going to be plugging in behind the tail light assembly on the drivers side. We have also got a ring terminal here, next to this white wire that is our ground wire. We are going to be using a self-tapping screw that is provided in the installation kit. In the middle, we have got the black converter box, and on the other side of it is double-sided tape. That will allow us to adhere it to a surface inside to keep it up and out of the way. Here at the other end we have got the actual 4-pole that can be the connection point for your trailer. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Today we are going to install part number 37185 on an 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. And this has the factory 4-pole installed with the vehicle, from the factory. What we are going to do is upgrade this up from a 4-pole to a 7-pole and 4-pole combination. And we are going to start by using this factory cut-out here for the 7-pole itself. It is actually just a cover. It just pops off, and we can install our 7-pole adapter right there. Before we install this into the bumper, we have to do one little modification, because the bumper is just a little bit too small. Basically we are just going to grind the little edge off here, just about 1 inch on the passenger side - just enough to help it pop into place, right here. Go ahead and install it. There it is, just enough room to snap into place. Then we will put our four bolts in to hold it secure. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan

Today we are going to install a T-One wiring harness on a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan. First step involved is removing the tail light assemblies, so we will open the hatch and get started on that. Next step we have to do is pull out the grommet and put a slit into it, this is done so that we can run our new wires coming that are coming out of that grommet out through to tail light and back to the wire harness. Now its the time to go ahead and open the jack storage door, and we will run our wires towards there. We will also need to get behind this trim panel, to get that freed up we will have to take out the threshold. The threshold will be this part here, then we can pull this part out. Opening up that plastic trim panel will give us room to stick our hand in there and help thread the wiring to the jack storage area. more

Today on this 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan we are going to install part number 118552 from Tow Ready. This is their T-One wiring harness. The first thing we need to do is get access to the tail lights because the T connector attaches behind both tail lights so open up the hatch and start on the driver side tail light and work our way over to the passenger side. There are two screws here that we need to unbolt and our tail light should come right off. Our T connector is going to connect up to the black one right here and there is a little lock to unlatch it so you have to push that backwards and then push down this part right here, this little button and it should come apart. To make things easier we are going to remove the whole light so we are going to do the same thing for the bottom connector too, however this will not be used by the wiring harness. 00:55 more

Today on this 2005 Dodge Durango, we are going to install part number 42145 from Hoppy. This part is designed to replace the factory 7-pole connector that is already installed on the vehicle. And this would be a perfect example. As you can see here, this whole assembly has seen better days. What we are going to do is unbolt the old connector, disconnect the wiring harness and then just bolt in the new. Alright, now we are going to take our 4-pole on the side here and we are just going to move it out of the way for more working space. Now, pull out our harness. And there is a lock on the connection point right here and this red tab, we have to push that way, to unlock it. First thing we want to do is remove those tail lights to gain access to the plug ins. To do so I have opened up the rear hatch and you can see on the inboard side we have got two retaining clips. Remove those, we can use either a rivet removal tool like the one I am using now or you can use a flat head screwdriver if you do not have one of these available to you. With those removed we just want to gently rock back and forth to release the outside clips on the tail light and with that removed you can see the port on the back side of the tail light. This is the one we are going to be connecting the wire harness into. To separate the two we just want to release the red clip at the top and push the button. Remove those, pull our taillight assembly away and we will be able to see our connectors. OK, will the taillight assembly pulled away, you can see our connector here. What we want to do is go ahead and pull this clip back. And then press this button here and pull the two apart. Starting over here on the driver side, we are going to go ahead and plug our harness in line. We want to take the end with the yellow, red and brown wires in them and connect them here. And we just want to feed the 4-pole end and the other connector for the passenger end, with the green wire, we want to feed those down through the opening in between the bumper and the body here. Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Dodge Caravan

Today we are going to install part number 118552 from Tow Ready on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. First what we need to do to start is get behind the tail lights. So we will have to open up the trunk and take out 2 screws on each side to undo the tail lights. There are 2 torque screws that have to come out and you just simply pry off the light. You will see 2 tabs, just pull straight out from there. For now we will just go ahead and let the light sit there so we will have to make our T1 connector right here. Again it is the same thing for the other side. To begin our install, we will take our 4 pole and our converter box and stick it behind the bumper. And it will come out below the bumper. Also the wires going to the passenger side will go down there too. These will eventually get run down underneath the bumper to the other side. Just to make sure we have the socket to hook up take a look at the outside. Obviously this is going to be your reverse light. And your turning signal and running lights and brake lights are going to be this bulb. So you are going to want to take this socket and this bulb apart. You have to unlock it and it should come apart just like so. Then you reinstall the T-1 connector in the same spot. Then take the other 2 halves you have left over and connect those together. Make sure you put the red locks back into place. more

We have got a brown, which is the running light lead a yellow, which is the left turn the green, which is the right turn and the red, which is the stop lead. We are going to need to locate each individual function here on the wiring harness and manually attach these wires directly into them. more

It is going to be behind the carpet here and here. We are just going to pull away this carpet a little bit and get to the back here. And this is the wiring harness right here, and you can tell it comes from the front to the rear and splits off to the left and the right sides. We have already kind of cut into it so we could see where the wiring was at. And these are our wires. We will go ahead and use our tester and prove which wire does what for what function. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2000 Dodge 1500 Van

First were going to install the wiring harness which its a simple four pole flat, which is going to plug into this harness here. Well bypass the factory tow package here and it will just plug into that and well show you how it works. It would be a good reason maybe to bypass the tow package because this will all be one sealed unit when were done and then you dont have to worry about individual splices coming undone in the future if you splice them to the harness. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram

Today we are going to install part number 37185 on our 2006 Dodge full size pickup 1500 with the 4 pole wiring flat installed from the factory. To begin our install the bumper already has a knockout ready for a 7 pole trailer connector. All I have to do is pop off this cover and it is ready to go. Next we can go ahead and install our 7 pole. Basically you just plug it right in and then give it a little push so it snaps into place. Now we can go ahead and install our hardware. We can now move under the vehicle to make some of our final connections here. In this application we are just going to install the 4 pole. There is not a brake controller or hot lead being used so we will bind this all back up and tuck it out of the way. We will go ahead and install some dielectric grease in here then install them together. more
