Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Today on this 2010 Chevrolet Equinox we are going to be installing Cequent wiring harness part number 118494. We are going to start off at the rear of the Equinox and locate the ports that the wiring harness is going to plug into. These ports are located directly behind the tail light assemblies on both the driver and passenger side. The first thing we need to do is remove both the driver and passenger side tail lights. To do that you can see we have got two covered connectors on the inboard side. We just want to pry off the lid and that is going to reveal a Phillips head screw. With those two removed we can gently rock the tail light back and forth to release the outboard clips of the tail light. With the tail light removed you can see our connection port is located directly on the back side of the tail light. We just want to depress the button on the connector and that is going to allow us to separate the two pieces. For the time being we just set the tail light off to the side. 00:53 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2002 Chevrolet Venture

Today on this 2002 Chevrolet Venture we are going to install part number 118355 from Tow Ready. This T- One wire harness actually connects inside the vehicle on the driver side underneath the interior panel. Okay, it is going to be behind this panel right here. So to get to this panel we have to take off this threshold first. When you take this threshold off, there is a bunch of little connections in here. And this one button here rips very easy so be careful when you take it apart. Okay, we will take this fastener apart. And then we will start peeling back the panel. All right, we pulled the panel back, now we have access to our port right here. On some models, this port is actually down below the A/ C unit sometimes too. So it can be a real bear to find but we got lucky here and it is pretty much right out in the open. more

Today on this 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup we are going to be installing the Pollak Twist-in 7-pole connector part number PK11916. We are at the rear bumper of the Chevrolet Pickup and we are going to locate our mounting location for our 7-pole plug. If you look just to the left of your license plate holder. You have got an existing knock out plug that is basically just a holder for the position that we are going to be putting our 7-pole into. To release this there is a little tab on the outboard side. Just take a flat bladed screw driver or something you can get in there to press that tab in a little bit. Twist the knock-out counter clockwise 45 degrees and pull the knock out away from the vehicle. In doing so you can see on the back side we have got a plug in. 00:46 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Today we are going to install part number 118417 from Tow Ready. We are going to install this on a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. To install the T-1 connector, we have to get back behind the tail light assembly here and behind this plastic. We are also going to be taking off the passengers side tail light, too. And this whole panel will just pop up straight vertical. And we are going to take off this other wing nut right here. Now that we have got our tail light loose, we are going to just temporarily disconnect it from the wiring harness. And then this actual plug right here is where our T-1 connector is going to hook up to the vehicle. We will reconnect the T-1 connector back in, and just tuck that back between the bumper fascia and the body. And we are also going to take our 4-pole wire, and we are going to route that straight down, because that is going to come out by the hitch itself. Make sure to leave that ground wire, because we are going to attach it to the sheet metal below the tail light. And we will just clip our original wire harness back on. more

All right, today we are going to install part number 118002 from Tow Ready. And we are going to install this 4-Flat Car End on a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. And we will show you how to mount it. It comes as a very simple kit. It comes with a 4-pole flat for the car end, and also four wire caps to tap into the wiring on the vehicle. What is really nice about the GMC Jimmy and the Blazer we have here is that the wiring harness is actually already provided for a towing package. They all have it, and it is located actually behind the license plate light right here, zip-tied to the back side of the bumper. So just cut the zip-tie, basically, pull it down, and all your wires are there, ready to go. And on the harness here, it actually tells you what wire does what function, so that is pretty handy. So what you want to do is go ahead and pull up the tape on the wires here. They are staggered, so you are going to go up pretty far to get to the ends of each wire. more

Hopkins 4 Pole to 6 Pole and 4 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter Review

Today on this 2008 Chevrolet Express we are going to install part number 37175 from Hopkins. What this is is a 4-pole to 6-pole and 4-pole adapter. It will install on the existing 4-pole that is on the vehicle and convert it. The first thing we are going to do is tidy up the wires. We are just going to use some electric tape to secure everything together. While we are at it, we will go ahead and show you the functions of the wires. First off we will cover the function of the wires. This is the 4-pole itself and this will plug in to the 4-pole that is already existing on the vehicle. The white wire is the ground and that will get connected to the frame. And then we have the red and blue wires. Traditionally, blue is for brakes. However, on this particular 6-pole, the blue wire is ran to the center pin. So a lot of times the outside pin is going to be for brakes. It just depends on how your trailer is wired up. The red wire here is typically used for a hot lead. However, this is run to the outside pin. So you can actually use either one of these for the hot lead for 12 volts or brake lead, depending on how your trailer is wired up. On this install, we are actually not going to be using these. We are just going to use the 6-pole for lights only. 1:09 more

Today on this 2003 Chevrolet Impala we are going to be installing hard wiring kit 18252. The first thing we need to do is remove the driver side tail light. We are going to undo the tie down screw. Fold back the carpeting in the trunk and as you can see there is three more tail light screws that we are going to be removing and that will pop loose our tail light. Now that our tail light is removed we are going to unplug it and set it out of the way. As you can see these are the wires that we are going to be tapping into. Before we tap into our wires, take the 4-pole and run it down through the bumper and out the bottom. We are going to test our wires to see what function they are going to be. 00:45 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1996 Chevrolet Lumina

Today on this 1996 Chevrolet Lumina we are going to install part number 18252 kit. What we have to do is hard wire it on to the existing harness, it is not a plug in or anything like that. At least we can get to the wires pretty easily in the vehicle. Everything we need to get to is right behind this tail light. Undo the carpeting, get this knob out of our way first. Pull it back out of our way. This is the wire harness we can get at for everything we need. Peel the loom away. What we are going to do is turn on the running lights in the vehicle and find out what the functions are going to be. On our 4-pole wiring connector we need to find out what the running light circuit is. This brown wire is our running light circuit so brown to brown in this instance. Now work on the right turn signal. The right 4-pole harness is going to be green. Now we will do our left turn signal that is going to be yellow to yellow. 01:00 more

And directly behind the taillight here we have located our port that we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. And that is going to be in the same location as the passenger side as well. So the first thing that we want to do is go ahead and separate the two pieces. We can do that by pressing the tab at the top. Today we are going to be installing a 4-pole, part number 118002, on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. OK, we are inside the trunk area, and we want to go ahead and access the wires that we are going to be tapping into for our wiring harness. Those wires are actually located directly behind the tail light assemblies on both sides of the vehicle. In order to gain access to those wires, we are going to need to go inside the trunk area and we will first off need to remove these three screws per side and then pull back our carpeting. And you can actually see there are two more set screws that we are going to need to remove as well. And with all the set screws removed, I can go ahead and pull the tail light assembly off. As you can see, here is our main wiring harness, feeding the drivers side tail light assembly here. We have got three wires here. We have got a brown with white, which is going to be the running light lead that we are going to be tapping into the yellow, which is our left turn and left brake signal and then the black, which is the standard ground. And then what we want to do is to take our yellow wire here off of our wiring harness, and we want to go ahead and we are going to attach it directly to the yellow wire on our tail light assembly. more

Today we are going to install part number 118417 on a 2007 Chevy Impala. The connection point for the T1 wiring harness is behind the passenger side tail light assembly. Right behind the bumper here. To access this we will have to open up the trunk and remove some of the fasteners to get the tail assembly off. We need to gain access to the fasteners that are holding the tail light assembly on. In doing so we are going to need to remove this screw here, there is one on each side. That will allow us to remove this back flange here. It might be sort of hard to see but there are actually 3 fasteners holding the tail light assembly on. We need to take all 3 of these off. That will allow us to remove the tail light assembly. Then you just want to carefully pry away and you can see the tail light assembly removes fairly easily. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Chevy Uplander

First well open up the rear door and start disassembling the tail lights and take them off the body. Well go ahead and take off one of the tail lights here. There are two torque bolts that need to be taken out and light pops off from the housing. Okay the lights are off so now its time to start installing the wire. What well do is push the four pole through the cavity between the bumper and the body and out the bottom plus the end for the passengers side too. Well leave the end for the drivers side tail light up in the air, well make the connections with the harness and the tail light. With the drivers side tail light re-installed, pull out all your slack on your line here, what well do next is thread it through behind these bumper brackets. Well go across all four of them, what well do is take some extra zip ties and tie it to that so they wont be dangling and in the way. Now that we have gotten to the other side of the vehicle, well take our T-1 connector passenger side end and push it up the pocket and pull it out the other side. Now well pull the harness out of the cavity and go ahead and make our connections. While were at it well take up a little bit of slack by using the zip tie to tie the wire to itself. While were her well install our ground wire. Now we re-install our passenger light. more

Today on this 2006 Chevrolet Uplander we are going to install part number 118396, the t-one wiring harness from Tow Ready. We are also going to install part number 37185, the adapter 4-pole to 7 and 4-pole multi-tool connector. The first step that we are going to do is go ahead and open up the hatch of this vehicle and remove both taillights. Alright and this is our connection point right here. And we are going disconnect. Push down on this tab here and it comes apart. We are going to repeat the same process on the passenger side. Are next step is to take the t-one wiring harness and the 4-pole part. We are going to tuck it behind the bumper here. Have it out of the bottom so we can pull it over by the hitch. And then we are going to take our connection with the yellow and brown wires and we are going to install that on to the wire harness that comes out from the van. So let us go ahead and snap those two together. We are going to leave that be for now. And then our connection with the green wire, that is going to get routed on to the other side of the vehicle, on the passenger side. So we are just going to take this and just tuck it on down and pull it out the bottom too. With this, we are just going to go ahead and reinstall our taillight and hook up the taillight electrical to this connection right here and reinstall the whole taillight assembly back onto the vehicle. 1:13 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Today we are going to install part number 118172 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to hard wire this onto a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. To get access to the wiring, we are going to take off one of the tail lights on each side. Because it is in fact all empty behind here, what we will do is run our wiring up above this license plate here, right next to the license plate light, and then make our connections behind the tail lights. The first step involved is to go ahead and take off the tail lights, one on each end. There is a little screw that comes out from inside, it is located right here. There is a little screw in this area right about here you take out and the light comes off. And you have access to your wiring right here. We will go ahead and just take the lens off for now. We want to do that one on each side. We will go ahead and peel back some of this tape on here to get a little more access to the wire itself. At this point you can actually test the wires and see which function does what. Black is going to be ground, brown is going to be the running light, and yellow is going to be the left-turn signal. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

The 2007 Silverado body style as well as the 2008 styles have a place on the bumper where the plug can be mounted. We remove the cover here to give us the hole to mount the plug into place. Once weve removed the knockout from the bumper area well place the harness into position. Were going to have to drill holes out to mount this into place. You can use either a pen to mark the holes or a punch tool which is what Im going to use. Now we can move onto the drilling. Once we get the holes drilled, we want to mount the connector into place with the existing fasteners. Once we have the fasteners in we want to secure them with the nuts on the back side and tighten them down. Once weve mounted the plug onto the bumper area, we just need to make the connection up underneath the vehicle here. This is the back end of the connector we just installed, and this is the other side of the factory 7 peg connector. You just want to plug these together. This concludes the installation of wiring harness part # 30955 on a 2007 Chevy Silverado. more
