Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 30130 for a 2006 Ford Escape. The attachment points for the wiring harness are going to be located behind the taillight assemblies, so the first thing we are going to do is to remove the taillight assemblies from the vehicle. That is going to require removing the two screws here on the inboard side. You want to be careful when removing the taillight assembly to make sure you do not break any of the locking tabs that are inside. You want to go ahead and do that on both sides of the vehicle. more

Next we are going to do the install of the wiring for our 2007 Hybrid Escape. We are going to utilize part number 118187, it is the Modulite Trailer Light Power Module. The reason for why we are using a power converter, basically, is the electronics in the vehicle are pretty sensitive. In fact, there is only just enough power to run lights in the vehicle. And basically, what this module does is it attaches to the harness and the green wire will end up being spliced to the right hand side. And this wire assembly here will be spliced on the driver side. And this black wire right here will be ran up front to the battery. The reason for the battery is is that basically this box, what it will do is copy the signal coming off of the vehicle and then send it to your trailer using the battery power. more

Today we are going to install part number 118336 from Tow Ready, and we are going to install this on a 1999 Honda CRV. To begin our install we actually have to get behind the speaker area. That is where the plug is actually attached at. We will just go ahead and pry this off, and then there are three screws that we have to undo to get behind the speaker. Be careful that you do not poke a hole in the speaker. And there is the plug right there, taped to the speaker wires. We will leave that sit there for now. And actually, if you want, you can actually take the speaker off - it might be a little easier to work with. What we do next is go ahead and pull back our carpeting, pull out this hatch, and then we are going to take this little plastic screw out to get back underneath here. All right, next we are going to route our cable from inside here down here. And it is all sheet metal behind here. So really we are going to take this panel loose and pull it away from it and run the cable between the metal and the plastic. And that means taking off this, this threshold, and pulling this back out so we can get some working room. First, we will take off this tie-down bracket - give us some working room there. And you can see we have got to take this thing off to get some more working room. So that means we have got to clean off this area here to get underneath here to take out our threshold. more

Today we are going to install part number 118316 from Tow Ready, and this is a T-1 connector we are going to install on a 1994 Ford pickup. This is the point in the harness that we need to split apart and attach our T connector. It is right behind the bumper on the drivers side. There is a little button you push down. It is kind of hard to see on the end. You push it down and it comes apart. And you just reinstall the T connector in the middle of it and then make sure you clip it back together. And it might be a good idea to go ahead and use a zip tie to tie it off somewhere, and that is pretty much all there is to it. Just route your 4-pole wire where you want it along the frame and out by the hitch. Just zip tie it to secure it to the frame and keep it from bouncing around. Then we can route our wire out to the hitch. We will just put it by the chain loop here. more

Today we are going to install part number 118130 and we are going to install this on our 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette. Now, this Silhouette actually comes with a load leveling compressor back here. When we have that option you always have a little bit of tow package option which is taped up right here. This port only is available on the vehicles with the compressor. And what we can do is tap off of this. First, we will untape it from the harness. It has a very short lead so it is kind of hard to work with. But, if you take your time, you can actually get a lot out of it. There are two different ways of doing it. One, you can go ahead and tap off the sides of the wires themselves with some scotch lock and tap off of it. Or two, you can simply cut off the port here and just wire it direct. A third option is, you can actually go to the dealer and buy the harness that plugs into this. However, it is just an extension with no converter of anything like that, so you still have to add a converter box and 4 pole on top of it. more

Today we are going to install part number 118307 on our Kia Sorrento, 2005 model. And we will show you how it plugs in. To install the part, it is a pretty simple device. There is an actual port for a towing package on the passengers side frame rail, right here. And all you have got to do, basically, is just pull off the cap. Push in this little button in and the cap comes out, and the T-1 connector actually just plugs right back in there. And at this point, you just route the T-1 however you want. Tie off the converter box in a safe location, and then just run your wires out to your hitch. more

Today we are going to install part number 37185 on an 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. And this has the factory 4-pole installed with the vehicle, from the factory. What we are going to do is upgrade this up from a 4-pole to a 7-pole and 4-pole combination. And we are going to start by using this factory cut-out here for the 7-pole itself. It is actually just a cover. It just pops off, and we can install our 7-pole adapter right there. Before we install this into the bumper, we have to do one little modification, because the bumper is just a little bit too small. Basically we are just going to grind the little edge off here, just about 1 inch on the passenger side - just enough to help it pop into place, right here. Go ahead and install it. There it is, just enough room to snap into place. Then we will put our four bolts in to hold it secure. more

It is going to be behind the carpet here and here. We are just going to pull away this carpet a little bit and get to the back here. And this is the wiring harness right here, and you can tell it comes from the front to the rear and splits off to the left and the right sides. We have already kind of cut into it so we could see where the wiring was at. And these are our wires. We will go ahead and use our tester and prove which wire does what for what function. more

All right, to begin with we need to get inside the vehicle and we need to take off the plastic panels on the inside. I am going to take up this carpet and this panel also. We will just push that back for now. And this trim panel, it comes off also. And the next thing we need to do is take off this panel here. We need to loosen it so we can get behind the tail light assembly. We will take off this screw here, and then we will undo this screw here to take off this buckle so that gives you easier work room to pull off the plastic. Also, behind this panel there might be a screw that you might need to take out too. We will take off this panel here for a little bit extra room, too. more

Today we are going to install part number 118391 from Tow Ready. This is a T-1 harness for an 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. We will begin our install by getting inside the vehicle and getting to the jack storage compartment. Once you take out the jack, reach down and you can actually feel for the wire harness down here. Feel around until you find the plastic plug. It does not come out far, but you can see it right here. And you pull it up. There is not much slack in it, but that is the connector right there. It is at the very bottom of the jack storage compartment. And simply your T-1 connector will just plug right into it. And also then your ground connector can connect to the ground wire that is at the bottom of the compartment. more

This T-1 connector actually installs inside the vehicle, so let us have access to the inside. We will open up the hatch and show you what panels need to come out. Remove this panel here and then we need to remove this threshold right here, and that way we can get access to this interior panel here so we can get behind it. You have two plastic rivets at the bottom. They are kind of different - you push the center and they pop out. It just takes gentle pressure and then it will pop out. And then this panel we will need to pull loose, and there is one rivet right here. Way back in the back you can see the white connector with light blue tape around it. That is the connector you need to get into. It is about two feet deep in there. more

The wiring plugs for this T connector are going to be located behind the plastic here. You can either: a, access them behind the tail light or take off the tail light and get to them that way and run them straight down. Or, in this case, we are going to go behind the plastic and install everything on the inside. First off, we are going to go ahead and take off the thresh hold right here so we can take out the side panels. Alright, undo a couple of screws for the panels. Today we are going to cover kind of a different subject. Basically, we are going to talk about getting your wiring installed and what is happening afterward. Okay, for instance, you went to the trouble to get your wiring installed, you plug it into your trailer, and nothing happens. There could be a lot of different things going on with it. First off, you need to figure out for sure whether it is on the towing vehicle side - the car or truck - or if it is something on the trailer. We will show you how to test the different types of wiring systems we have shown here. And that way you can tell for sure if it is your wiring harness or if it is your trailer. more

Today we are going to install part number 118307 on our 2005 Kia Sorrento. Installing the part is pretty simple. There is actually a port for a towing package on the passenger side frame rail, right here, and all you have to do basically is pull off the cap and push this little button in and the cap comes out. The T1 connector connector actually just plugs right back in there. At this point you just route the T1 how ever you want, tie off the converter box in a safe location. Then just run your wires out to your hitch. It looks like a good spot actually is right above the spare tire rack here. So what we will do is just put it to the top of it right here. Make sure you have plenty of room with your spare tire. Then we will run our zip tie across the top of it and through the wires. The next thing we can do is run our wire to the other side and we will just bundle it up and just go ahead and zip tie it to the top of the hitch here. That would be safe and out of the way. Get yourself so extra long zip ties and just run it across with one on each side. At this point you can mount your 4 pole connector to a bracket that will mount to your factory bracket on the hitch. Then you just simply zip tie it in place or add a different type of connector for here. That concludes our install of part number 118307 from Tow Ready, the T1 connector. more

Today we are going to be installing a T1 wiring harness, part number 118362, on a 2003 Nissan Frontier. Looking up underneath the vehicle now. And you can see, we are looking back towards the bumper right on the rear side of the spare tire here. If you take a look at the passenger side, the harness is going to be right here. What we will want to do is go ahead and disconnect that and pull these 2 pieces apart. As you can see there is kind of a pin in there that we need to push in then you can pull these 2 pieces apart, like so. Now that we have the wire disconnected here we can go ahead and put our T-harness in line. As you can see there are 2 ends on it as well. You just plug the coinciding ends together. Okay, we are going to go ahead and mount the ground now. And we want to actually mount that directly to the frame so that we make sure that we have a good grounding point. more

What we have here is a 4 pole flat car end, 16 inches long and includes 4 wiring caps. This is going to be installed on a 2005 Ford Mustang. We need to get the access to the wiring. So the first thing we need to do is take out this bottom tray or carpeting here. You have to take off this back panel here to get access to the wiring. Once that is out of the way we can start taking these fasteners off this back panel here and then take it off to get to the wiring. This is the wiring harness that is actually going to the tail light lens. So what we need to do is strip away our wires here so we can figure out which wire is our turn signal or running light. Since we have to hardwire this, we have to test to see what wire does what. So basically we will just use our ground tester to the existing ground on the body. more

Today we are going to install part number 118446 from Tow Ready on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. First what we need to do to start is get behind the tail lights. So we will have to open up the trunk and take out 2 screws on each side to undo the tail lights. There are 2 torque screws that have to come out and you just simply pry off the light. You will see 2 tabs, just pull straight out from there. For now we will just go ahead and let the light sit there so we will have to make our T1 connector right here. Again it is the same thing for the other side. To begin our install, we will take our 4 pole and our converter box and stick it behind the bumper. And it will come out below the bumper. Also the wires going to the passenger side will go down there too. These will eventually get run down underneath the bumper to the other side. Just to make sure we have the socket to hook up take a look at the outside. Obviously this is going to be your reverse light. And your turning signal and running lights and brake lights are going to be this bulb. So you are going to want to take this socket and this bulb apart. You have to unlock it and it should come apart just like so. Then you reinstall the T-1 connector in the same spot. Then take the other 2 halves you have left over and connect those together. Make sure you put the red locks back into place. more

Today we are going to show you a little bit of wiring. Basically kind of like wiring 101 and what to look for when your going to hardwire into the vehicle. What hardwire means is actually getting to the wire and splicing into them to make a connection. T1 connectors are different. They actually have a connection point and harness which you take apart and fit the T in the middle of that. Now on this vehicle we will show you the typical wiring schematics and a couple variants from that. The typical connection point is like where this wiring comes into the back of the tail light and there is always going to be a connection point, almost always. Older vehicles, it would have just ran straight, but with pretty much of your newer vehicles you are always going to have a snap connection like this. Basically a T1 connector simply would just go ahead and fit in between this harness. more

Today we are going to show you a little bit on wiring. Basically, a wiring 101 or what to look for when you hardwire into a vehicle. Hardwire means actually getting to the wires and splicing into them and making a connection. The first thing you want to do when you hardwire a vehicle is you want to make sure you are grounded and get a test. Make sure your tester is working fine. On some cars you will see this on one of the wires. Being the same color like these black wires. You will see a lot of them ran to a screw inside the body here. Chances are that is going to be your ground. You can actually use that ground for your light tester. What we mean by a light tester is a device like this right here. Basically, this connects to the ground and what this device does is this hooks around the wire you want to test and you push it together and it precises the wire and touches the copper wire inside, creates a circuit and lights up when you have power in that wire. more

And what hardwire means is actually getting to the wires and splicing into them making a connection. We will go ahead and do our test and ground it. Instead of piercing the wires, if you have a junction that is easy to get to go ahead and pull it apart. And instead of piercing the wire, go ahead and test on the inside here. Just check each individual contact here until you hit something. Then make sure you actually have your running lights on and then go ahead and turn them back off. To access this we will have to open up the trunk and remove some of the fasteners to get the tail assembly off. We need to gain access to the fasteners that are holding the tail light assembly on. In doing so we are going to need to remove this screw here, there is one on each side. That will allow us to remove this back flange here. It might be sort of hard to see but there are actually 3 fasteners holding the tail light assembly on. We need to take all 3 of these off. That will allow us to remove the tail light assembly. To tell if your vehicle has a 4 or 5 wire system what you want to do is have a friend go ahead and step on the brakes. And note which lights come on. Now what you want to do then is go ahead and turn on the turn signal while holding the brake down and turn on the right turn signal. As you an see you have your brake lights on and you see the amber turn signal going on to let you know you have a 5 wire system. Now on this vehicle here we have a 4 wire system. The way to double check that is go ahead and turn on one of the turn signals like the right one here. Note which bulb is burning and which filament on the inside and turn that off. Then go ahead and hit your brakes. And you notice here, it is one in the same. Once we have our panel out of the way, we have all of our wiring exposed to the drivers side tail light and we also have a nice ground here we can use. Well take apart the other side to get to our wiring, then well test for signals. What weve done here is use a piece of angled iron you can use whatever you want to hold this out of the way. Well test for the running lights to see what wire it is, and what well do on this one is well pull out the socket assembly like so, and as you can see we have our running light on. The object is we have to get behind this panel over here, but to do that we have to take off this threshold strip because part of the panel lies underneath it. So well take off these tie downs and we should be able to take this threshold off. To get this off theres clips underneath here, you can use a wide screwdriver or gasket scraper. The wider the better to better distribute the force while prying it up. Once you get that off we can start working on this panel here. Now that we have the threshold off we can loosen this panel. Today we are going to show you the install of part number 18172. It is a 4 pole wiring harness which needs to be hardwired through the vehicle. It is not vehicle specific but we will be showing the the typical application of it. The vehicle we will be using is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. The wiring is located behind the paneling here. In here we will pull apart the covering here and get to the all different kinds of wiring. Too find out what color does what we will need a test light. You connect it to a wire and turn on one function at a time. Running lights are on as we touch the wires with the wire tester to find the action of each wire. Now that we know which one is the running lights circuit on your 4 pole. We will go ahead and start with the running lights, and to verify we will turn off the running lights and make sure that is our circuit. So we will go ahead and install the running lights to our 4 pole. On your packaging you can tell what wire does what. Green is right turn, brown is running lights, yellow is left turn and white goes to ground. more

To give you an idea of what were going to do, typically the modulite and other hardwired modules will get wired usually behind the tail lights. Most of the time you get four functions on the left hand side and the one right turn function on the right hand side. However on Nissans they actually run part of there tow harness here and this is the plug right here. Whats active on it only is the left and right hand turn and the brake signal. The wire is ran for the running light, but is not active. To make it active you have to buy the whole towing kit from the manufacturer OEM. What were going to do is show you a way to work around that where you dont have to run behind the lights and just basically fill in the blanks with the tow package. The First thing we need to do is mount our wiring module. It seems a pretty safe spot would be along the side of the hitch right here. more

Today we are going to show you the installation of part number 55571 from Curt. We are going to install this on a 2005 Nissan Murano. For this install what we need to do is open up the back hatch and remove some inner panels. Both of the covers on the left and right come off. These compartments will also come out. Now to remove the threshold what you want to do is remove this little panel underneath the hook. There are also 3 plastic releases in the back along with these 3 rivets in the back. Take those out and this whole panel will unsnap and come apart. We need to take this cover off so what we do is work it a little loosely and the pop this handle out and you can pull the whole thing out pretty easily. Then go ahead and pop those pins out of the side paneling so you can pull it off. Now you can see where the harness and the tail light connect. more

Today we are going to show you how to do a hardwire install on a 1999 Lexus RX300. We will be installing part number 118176 by Modulite. We will also be using the accompanying Modulite wiring kit part number 118151. To begin our install what we are going to do is take apart the plastic on the inside of the vehicle. It is pretty time consuming but it is very easy to do if you just take your time. So we will open up the trunk and get inside. We start by taking apart the trunk liner and getting down to where the spare tire is. Also take out the side pockets there is one on each side. We are going to use that for access so that it can fit into our wiring harness. We will have to take off our tail lights to test and see what wire does what. Now we still have to take these 2 pockets out to get to our wiring harness and make it a little easier to get too. more

Today were going to show you a popular upgrade. We have here a four pole flat that has been installed on a vehicle. The owner has a boat trailer now and it has a five wire flat. So were going to convert that four wire to a five wire flat. We will show you how to deal with part number 20036 which is the adapter itself, and the bracket which is part number 20046. Our first step we need to do is take off the four pole and then well uninstall the bracket and put in the new bracket. It may take some force, but you have to pull to get this out of here. We actually used a rubber mallet to tap it a little bit, now this bracket can come off which we have previously loosened up. Now well install our new bracket and it will go in the same spot as before. What were going to do next is get our four pole ready which we have cleaned out with WD-40 and then were going to put in some dielectric grease. Well put that inside here and then were going to attach our four pole from our adapter inside there. more

Today we are going to do an install with part number 118431 from Tow Ready. We are going to install this T-One Connector on a 2007 Kia Rondo. Our first couple steps are to open up the trunk and we need to remove both tail lights. This is the point right here where the T1 will make the connection. Now we will just take it apart so we can take the light off. We are going to go ahead and do this for the other side also. We will go ahead and make our connection point on the driver side then we will push the rest of this down through the opening and come out down towards the bottom. We will go ahead next and install our ground wire here. At this point we can actually reconnect our light on the drivers side. more

On this install we are going to do a T-One install on a 2007 Jeep Lorado. We are going to user part number 118425. We will be doing a four pole flat that will terminate down by the trailer hitch. First step is to take off the tail lights. Well take off this rivet and this rivet and pop out the tail lights. Then well run a wire harness from below the bumper, up behind the bumper and into the tail light cavity. more

On this install we are going to install part number 118382 it is a T-One wiring connector for a 2002 - 2007 Jeep Liberty. First Step involves getting to the tail lights themselves. What we need to do is open the door and get to the screws that hold the tail lights in place. First step is taking off the tail lights, well start with the easy side (The right side). Once you get the screws out, a good tip is to put a piece of paper between the bumper and the light, you will probably be pulling down on the light and you might scratch the paint. Once you have your tail light housing off you might as well take it off the wire harness because your going to need to anyway. The trick is to this, its pretty easy, there is a little red tab here you just go ahead and push out. Then there is another tab here to push down on, and this thing comes apart. Moving on to the drivers side, its a little harder to get to the screws. Basically you get a long extension to get to the screws and just back them out the other side. more

Today we are going to be installing a wiring harness 118369 which will fit 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We are inside the back hatch now of the Grand Cherokee. There are also going to be 3 screws we are going to have to remove to access the wiring harness. You need to remove this screw here on the threshold. Both of these screws are here for the cargo tie down. Both of which need to be removed also. With these 3 screws removed we want to go ahead and remove this whole interior panel here. Besides the screws there are push rivet fasteners that are all inside here and along the inside of the side pieces as well. So we need to gain access to the interiors so we need to pop this side off. Go ahead and remove the bottom cargo tray to give us a little more room to work. more

The port is tucked up right here, but we popped it out so you can see it better. This is a pretty simple process, just go ahead and push this down, pull it out, get your T connector, line up the slots and pop it back in there. The hard part is finding a place where you want to mount it to get it out of the way. What well do is use this screw that goes through this hole here. Hold it to where you want it, make a few marks with it and then draw the marks. We then drill a hole and re-attach the screw. more

This part also fits 2007 Hyundai Elantra. The first thing we need to do is open the trunk and take apart some of the interior lining. First well show you one of the access points for the wiring on the passengers side. Just take off this cover here, it unscrews, comes down, and its kind of hard to see but right here at this point is where we take apart the harness and install the T-1 connector. Simply push that button in and it comes apart. Before we can make our connection this panel has to come off and this panel here has to come off because we have to run the wire harness all the way across to the other side. To take off this panel here, theres one plastic rivet on each side of the panel. Once you get those taken out, gently pull up on it on both sides and maybe under here with a pry tool and the whole thing comes apart like that. more

Step one would be to get to the wiring itself, thats going to require removing a couple of panels and loosening a couple. First thing to do is take out the trunk tray, the threshold and loosen the two side panels. Taking off that panel will allow us to get this panel loose here to get to the junction box inside. Wiring harness installation: Now that we have our panel is loosened you can see the junction box. It will use this port here and simply plug in. Once youve plugged it in, go ahead and ground it. Theres a handy ground screw right here well just use that. Last step is to mount the box here and well just stick it behind this harness here, it has self adhesive. more

Today we are going to show you part number 118336 from Tow Ready and we are going to install it on a 2007 Honda Pilot. To begin our install we have to gain access to the inside of the vehicle and take off the rear threshold. That port we need to get to is underneath the threshold. A little bit towards the center but closer to the driver side. Next this threshold panel needs to come off also. They actually come off pretty easy. On this tray here we push back a little bit and we can see the port right here. Once we have gone ahead and plugged it in we will stick our little converter box on right here. There is just enough room. We can stick it against the wall and keep it out of harms way. We can tuck these wires back in there. You can either run the wires back out through this hole or sometimes there is a crack in this little hole you can run it through also. more

We are going to go ahead and install part number 18002. Which is the Draw Tight 4 pole flat onto this 1998 GMC Jimmy. Right now we are underneath the vehicle. We have already put the hitch on here. As far as the wiring goes about 90 of the Chevy Blazers and GMC Jimmys have the tow package on them. It is that bundle of wires that attached to the backside of the bumper with zip tie. Those are all the wires we are going to need to attach the 4 pole too. So what we are going to do is go ahead and clip the zip tie here. Then release these wires and as you can see they give you a substantial amount of lead. Again the 4 pole flat connector we will be using is made by Draw Tight and is part number 18002. more

Theres no market product that will plug into the factory tow harness, so well have to make our own and splice into it. The tow harness is about two or three feet on the frame rail on the drivers side so what well do is take this and extend it down out to the frame rail to match up to it. Today were only going to worry about four pole end, were not going to install the brakes or the hot lead. Were going to install this on the factory ground on the frame more
