Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Nissan Pathfinder

Today on this 2004 Nissan Pathfinder we will be installing Hidden Hitch part number 70609. This installation will also apply for Draw-Tite hitch part number 75077. We are underneath the vehicle now and we are taking a look at the outboard side of the passenger side frame rail. As you can see we have got a tow hook mounted here. This is being held in place with these three bolts. We are going to need to remove those three bolts along with the tow hook and that is going to provide three of the attaching points for our trailer hitch on the passenger side. We are also going to be using a fourth weld nut on the outboard side of the frame that is not currently in use located right here. For all four of these weld nuts we are going to be using the new hardware that is provided with the installation kit. Then looking at the driver side frame rail you can see we have got the same tow hook. Again we are going to be removing this and using the same four attaching points for our trailer hitch. On this side you can see we have got our carbon canister in the way. It is going to need to be lowered. 00:55 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Nissan Rogue

Today we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13185 on a 2009 Nissan Rogue. We are underneath the vehicle and we are looking at the drivers side frame rail. You can see we have got three existing weld nuts here at the bottom of the frame that we are going to be using as the attaching points for the trailer hitch. It may be necessary to clean these weld nuts out if there is any road grime or corrosion built up in them. And over here on the passengers side, you can see we have got an existing tow hook that we are going to need to remove. It is held on here by two screws here on the vertical side of the frame and then two at the bottom as well. Once these are removed, they are going to provide the two attaching points for the hitch at the rear side. We are also going to use this existing hole here at the forward side. We are also going to need to remove this small screw here in the middle, which is going to interfere with the hitch sitting flush against the frame. more

We are going to show you where the frame stiffeners typically mount up on this hitch. The hitch is actually going to be going from the bottom and be up against the inside of the trunk pan edge here and the stiffener plate is going to go on top. 00:23 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Nissan Murano

Today on this 2006 Nissan Murano we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13571. Before we get started installing our trailer hitch we need to do a couple of things in preparation. We first need to lower the exhaust system down. This vehicle has a dual exhaust system so we do need to remove the hangers from both sides of the vehicle. There are two on the driver side and one over on the passenger side outboard frame rail. The hanger on the passenger side is bolted to the side of the frame so we are going to unbolt it to lower it down. Over on the driver side we have just got some standard rubber hangers. To remove these we are going to spray down the studs of the hangers with a spray lubricant and then we can take a set of pliers or a pry bar and separate the two. If you still do not have enough working room underneath the vehicle it might be a good idea to remove the fourth exhaust hanger at the forward side of the vehicle almost even with the axle. 00:56 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Nissan Maxima

Alright, today on this 09 Nissan Maxima, we are going to install part number 24796 from Draw-Tite. This will also apply to part number 60873 from Hidden Hitch. The first step is to go ahead and remove the exhaust on both sides of the vehicle of course. That will give us more room to put the hitch up and mark our holes for drilling. So let us go ahead and spray down the bolts with your favorite penetrant. Let it sit for awhile. Then go ahead and break the bolts loose. Below the muffler is a rubber hanger. It would be a good idea to spray it down with your favorite lubricant and go ahead and pull it out backwards. Alright, we have our driver side done. Let us go over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. OK, now the heat shield is going to be in the way of holding the hitch up into place. So, we are just going to push it out, away from the trunk pan here. You just want a general curve on it. That way we can get up, in between the bottom of the trunk pan here and the side of the frame. When we are all said and done, this will actually get pushed back in place. 1:01 more

The first thing we need to do before we can get started installing our trailer hitch is you need to go in the trunk area of the vehicle and remove the flooring. We will be drilling holes through the trunk floor to attach our hitch to. We want to make sure we get this out of the way before we do that. Now we can come underneath the vehicle, and we need to unbolt both of our mufflers from the main cross tube here, we are going to take and loosen these clamps because we are going to be taking both mufflers off the vehicle. :33 more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Nissan Titan

Today we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 70530 on a 2006 Nissan Titan. OK, we are underneath the vehicle now, and we are going to go ahead and point out the attaching points for the trailer hitch. Looking at the drivers side frame rail, you can see here, at the rear end of the nearest bumper, you have got two weld nuts that are going to provide the rearmost attaching points for the hitch. And then there is one a little bit forward of the spring bracket, right here, that will be the third attaching point for the hitch as well. And it will be the same on both sides of the vehicle. If the vehicle is a little bit older, it may be necessary to clean out all these weld nuts. There may be some road grime in there, and it makes it a little difficult to get the bolts threaded in. So the first thing you want to do is just, like I say, clean them out and make sure the bolts go in easily. And once you have done that, you can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. more

What we need to do is the lower the exhaust in front of the muffler. Bring it down an inch or so. You can also put a strap around it to hold it in place and maybe lower a little further if you need to. We will start by taking down this bracket here. Next we move on to the exhaust hangers this is where it is good to invest in a ratchet wrench. It makes things a lot easier. Now this bracket must come off and stay off by taking out the 2 bolts up in front and 2 on the backside. Then these rubber hangers have to come off so we can lower everything down. How we do that is spray them down with some WD40 which will make it a little easier to pry them off. more

The hitch is actually going to replace these tow hooks, so if you want to remove them - the bolts - they are holding the tow hook in place, and they need to be removed and come down. And clamped in here is also a fourth weld nut that we are going to use as the mounting location as well. It is toward the rear of the frame you will be able to see it once we get the tow hook removed. As you can also see, the small control box here on the drivers side is going to be in the way of me removing the bolts from the side of the frame and getting the hitch up into place. So we want to lower this down and out of the way as well. There are three bolts holding the box in place - one here on the outboard side, one here at the rear, and one here on the inboard side as well. Just so you know we used two bolts which well come back to later to install the spacers that go behind the hitch and the frame. With your temporary bolts in position you can put the hitch up where its supposed to go and we still have plenty of movement to go around.
